]]>The proposal, which will be submitted for initial approval at the plenary session in December, introduces specific changes in adoption fees, while maintaining unchanged the amounts corresponding to the collection of animals, their stay in the municipal center and basic veterinary services, such as microchip placement, health passport or rabies vaccination.
During 2025, a total of 88 adoptions have been registered in the municipality , of which 64 were dogs, 17 cats and the remaining seven corresponded to other types of animals. Precisely, the most relevant change of the new ordinance affects the adoption of dogs, by eliminating the age differentiation that existed until now. Under the current regulations, adopting a dog under three years of age cost 85 euros, as opposed to the 65 euros paid for older animals. With the new wording, a single fee of 65 euros is established for all dogs, which means a reduction in the case of younger dogs and a simplification of the administrative procedure.
The amendment also reduces and standardizes adoption fees for other animals. Thus, the adoption of equines and other domestic animals is now set at 65 euros, while the adoption of cats is maintained at a symbolic rate of five euros, in line with municipal policies to encourage adoption and control abandonment.
Another novelty of the ordinance is the incorporation, for the first time, of a specific fee for obtaining canine DNA, which is set at 37.50 euros. This measure will allow adapting the municipal regulations to the new tools for animal identification and control, reinforcing the fight against abandonment and promoting responsible dog ownership.
After its initial approval at the December plenary session, the amendment will be subject to a public exhibition period of thirty working days, during which the public will be able to consult the file and submit allegations through the notice board and the municipal electronic office.
The Councilor for the Environment of Santa Eulària, Monica Madrid, stressed that «this update of the ordinance does not increase the cost of the collection service or animal sheltering, but seeks to improve its economic sustainability and, especially, to facilitate adoption so that more animals can find a new home».

The center’s veterinarian, Miguel Quiñones, explained the stories of each of these brave dogs, who have left behind difficult chapters to start a new stage.

Cabezón, who arrived after the death of his owner, is a dog born in 2018 with a very affectionate character towards people, although he finds it difficult to socialize with other animals. Tipo, born in 2020, needed special care due to his nutritional condition and still requires attention with his feeding. Finally, Roy, born in 2016, suffered separation anxiety when his former owners could no longer care for him. ]]>The Councilman for Animal Welfare, Manuel Jimenez, stressed that the elimination of this fee is part of the City Council’s commitment to become an animal-friendly city. Jimenez stressed that in addition to eliminating adoption fees, the penalties for abandonment of animals have been increased. penalties for abandonment have been increased from 40 to 80, which will go from 40 to 80 euros per animal, applying to both dogs and cats. «We want these animals to find a family as soon as possible,» expressed the councilman, recalling that the Sa Coma center has made improvements, such as the creation of enclosures where animals can exercise off-leash and the implementation of sterilization campaigns and control of feline colonies.
The City Council also seeks to make visible and facilitate the adoption of potentially dangerous dogs (PPP), whose classification is based on physical characteristics, not on their behavior, which has hindered their adoption. Currently, the Sa Coma center houses 30 dogs classified as PPP. In addition to this measure, awareness campaigns and training sessions are being carried out, such as the one held last October 26, focused on canine emotional management to prevent problems of coexistence between people and animals. With this new ordinance, the City Council of Ibiza reaffirms its commitment to animal welfare, facilitating adoption and strengthening measures against abandonment.
