The sixth edition of the 5K Ibiza-Platja d’en Bossa crowned this Sunday Ciro Martín and Noelia Juan as absolute winners, in a race held along the promenade of Platja d’en Bossa, in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, with a remarkable participation and a high competitive level. The race started at 9.00 a.m. and once again turned the area into a reference point for popular athletics in Ibiza, according to the organizers and the Sant Josep Town Hall itself.

Men’s exhibition by Ciro Martín

In the men’s category, Ciro Martín imposed his pace from the first stages of the race, leaving the victory practically decided before completing the course. The Valencian athlete started out in a leading group with Mauro García-Vallés, Adrián Guirado and Josep Torres, but it was from the third kilometer when he launched a decisive change of pace that allowed him to escape clearly. Martín crossed the finish line with a time of 15:03, confirming his excellent form in the coastal circuit of Sant Josep.

The second place went to the athlete from Santa Eulària, Adrián Guirado, winner of the previous edition, who signed a solid performance but had to settle for the silver after stopping the clock in 15:08. The podium was completed by Mauro García-Vallés, from C.A. Pitiús, who got the third position with a time of 15:15, in a very celebrated finish by the public gathered in Platja d’en Bossa.

Female dominance of Noelia Juan

In the women’s race, Noelia Juan starred in one of the most outstanding performances of the day, dominating the race with authority from start to finish. The Valencian runner not only won her category, but also managed to sneak into the top twenty positions in the overall absolute classification, a result that underlines the high competitive level of the winner. Juan signed a final time of 17:21, consolidating her triumph on the coast of Sant Josep.

Second place went to Gloria Tejado, who completed the five kilometers in 18:06, while Nuria Tauler closed the women’s podium with a time of 18:30. The three athletes received the recognition of the public in a morning marked by good weather and sporting atmosphere, usual in this event of the insular calendar.

A celebration of popular athletics in Platja d’en Bossa

Beyond the competition, the 5K Ibiza-Platja d’en Bossa was again a real party of popular athletics, with nearly half a thousand runners taking the start in a two-lap circuit by the sea. Federated athletes, amateurs and beginners shared the course, dyeing the coast of Sant Josep with a multicolored tide, accompanied at all times by the support of the public and the good weather.

At the end of the race, the City Council of Sant Josep and the Consell Insular d’Eivissa presented 62 trophies corresponding to all official categories, recognizing the efforts of the participants. In addition, La Sirena Shopping Center collaborated with six shopping vouchers valued at 100, 60 and 40 euros, destined to the best classified.

Prelude to the Spanish 10K Championship

This Sunday’s race also served as a prelude to the 10K Ibiza-Platja d’en Bossa, to be held next Sunday, February 15. The race has generated unprecedented expectation and sold out its registrations more than a month ago, according to the organizers. This year, in addition, the 10K will be the Spanish Championship, a historic milestone for Ibiza, which will host for the first time a national competition of this magnitude in the field of road athletics.

The 5K Ibiza-Platja d’en Bossa has everything ready to mark, once again, the official start of the season of popular races in Ibiza and Formentera. In just a few years, the race has established itself as an essential event for running enthusiasts of the Pitiusas, both for its competitive level and its close and participatory atmosphere.

After the Christmas holidays, the Josepina race has become the first big goal of the calendar for many local runners. An ideal scenario to put on a race bib again, check sensations and start the sporting year recovering pace and form, in a context that combines demand and enjoyment.

A fast track that invites you to run

One of the main hallmarks of the 5K Ibiza-Platja d’en Bossa is its urban route of 5,000 meters, completely flat and especially attractive for runners.

This profile favors good records and allows most participants to get their best version, which explains why during these previous days it is common to see many athletes training on the course to gain confidence and references.

The balance between a competitive race and its markedly popular character is another key to its success. The race allows a wide and diverse participation, from experienced athletes to amateur runners who find in this event a perfect motivation to start the season.

Sunday, January 11 and sold out

The race will be held on Sunday, January 11, starting at 9:00 am, and the interest generated has been such that the quota of participants was exhausted more than a month ago. Even so, the organization is keeping a waiting list open to cover possible last minute cancellations.

To improve the flow and development of the race, two different starts have been established. At 9:00 a.m., runners expected to finish in less than 25 minutes will start, while at 9:10 a.m., runners with estimated times between 25 and 35 minutes will start.

Prizes, records and the 10K in sight

At the end of the race, the Sant Josep Town Hall and the Consell d’Eivissa will award 60 trophies, distributed among the different categories included in the regulations. In addition, the La Sirena Shopping Center will award the first three absolute finishers, both male and female, with shopping vouchers.

The last edition left outstanding performances, such as the new female record signed by Andrea Romero from Formentera with a time of 16:28, or the third triumph of the athlete from Santa Eulària Adrián Guirado. The male record of the race remains in the hands of the Moroccan Youssef Ben Hadi, with a spectacular record of 13:53 achieved in the first edition of 2021.

A month later will come the next big milestone of the island’s athletic calendar. It will be on February 15 when the 10K Ibiza-Platja d’en Bossa, which this year will be held in conjunction with the Spanish Championship, reinforcing the prominence of the island as a major stage of national athletics.

Ibiza is getting ready to welcome, once again, the iconic supercar rally Gumball 3000, which will mark the closing of its 2025 edition. With the start in Istanbul on September 20 and a route that runs through emblematic cities such as Bucharest, Belgrade, Venice, Nice and Barcelona, the island will be the final destination of this event that combines adrenaline, luxury and extravagance, culminating on September 27. This international rally, founded in 1999 by British entrepreneur Maximillion Cooper, is not simply a parade of high-end cars: it presents itself as an experience that mixes racing, parties, millionaires, business figures and celebrities, even up to personalities from the emerging world of cryptocurrencies. The 2025 edition will be the third time Ibiza will host this event, having hosted it in 2014 and 2019. On both occasions, the parade of luxury cars and the influx of participants generated both awe and concern among local residents, particularly because of the impact on road safety and traffic.

Gumball 3000: controversies along the way

Despite its popularity, Gumball 3000 has not been without controversy. In 2007, a tragic accident in Macedonia marked a before and after in its history: a participating vehicle collided with a local car, causing the death of its occupants and raising criticism for the behavior of some rally participants. This incident led to the cancellation of the race that year and put the spotlight on the behavior of drivers, who often do not respect the traffic regulations of the countries through which they pass.

An event that combines opulence and adrenalin

Beyond the critics, Gumball 3000 continues to be an event that arouses passions among car lovers and exclusivity. Each stage of the rally not only brings together the fastest and most impressive machines in the world, but also transforms the host cities into powerhouses of luxury and spectacle.
