La entrada The Consell de Ibiza tenders for the first time a comprehensive service for the maintenance of the island’s roads se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.
]]>The new service will allow to act in a planned and continuous way on all the roads owned by the island, covering about 200 kilometers of roads and about 100,000 square meters of landscaped areas. The objective is to improve road safety, reinforce fire prevention and organize the vegetation on the margins, as well as to guarantee a more adequate maintenance of traffic circles, medians and green spaces.
Until now, these tasks were carried out on an ad hoc or fragmented basis, through isolated actions. With this contract, the Consell ensures that for the first time a stable and professionalized model of road maintenance is established, which will allow a more efficient and homogeneous management of the island’s road network.
The tender is divided into three separate lots. The first includes the cleaning and clearing of roadside verges, with systematic actions throughout the year. The second one introduces as a novelty the forest cleaning, as well as the pruning and felling of trees in stretches with forest masses, by means of specific campaigns previously planned. The third lot focuses on the integral maintenance of landscaped areas, with pruning, irrigation, phytosanitary treatments and aesthetic improvement of the spaces.
The service will have specialized and dedicated human resources, with a minimum of 21 professionals distributed among the three lots, as well as specific machinery, adapted vehicles and signaling and safety systems. The contract specifications also establish demanding criteria in terms of occupational risk prevention, personnel training and the use of approved protective equipment.

]]>One of the most outstanding interventions has been carried out in Platja d’en Bossa, where municipal teams have applied high-pressure steam cleaning to sidewalks and pedestrian areas. This system, used especially in high traffic areas, allows the removal of embedded dirt and renew the image of the environment.

In Cala de Bou, the consistory has reinforced the street cleaning in Sant Agustí Avenue, where it has acted on the accumulation of soil in a parking lot. The intervention aims to improve accessibility and prevent these deposits from affecting mobility or drainage of the space.
The works have also reached Sant Jordi, where the informative stickers of the waste collection points in Sant Jordi street have been renewed, in order to keep the signage updated and facilitate the correct use of the containers. Likewise, the street of Vitrac, in the area of Can Raspall, has been cleared, a task aimed at keeping the margins of the street clear and reinforcing safety.

]]>The conflict is framed in a context of tensions between the City Council of Santa Eulària and the concessionaire company. In August, the consistory announced the opening of a sanctioning file against Valoriza for the breaches detected during the first six months of management of the waste collection, street cleaning and beach cleaning services.
The secretary of Union Action of CCOO, Ana Lopez, explained to Radio Ibiza that since the beginning of the new contract there have been accumulating incidents that directly affect the 63 workers on the payroll. Among them, she cited repeated errors in the payroll, the non-payment of a salary due in October and the poor state of the fleet of vehicles, since not all the new trucks foreseen in the contract have been incorporated.
The union representative stressed that this is not a «strategic» strike, but a necessary measure of pressure to open a real process of dialogue and negotiation with the company. The objective, she added, is to guarantee adequate working conditions and that workers receive their salaries in full and correctly.

]]>As happens with every storm, neighbors and merchants had expressed their discomfort with the smell of sewage that, as often happens in this neighborhood, spread through the area after the storm. The precipitation, which fell early in the morning, left waterlogged streets, debris and a persistent stench that again generated complaints among residents.
Following these protests, the City Council mobilized a cleaning operation with water and perfumed soap to neutralize odors and improve the condition of public roads.
The work was carried out throughout the day on the most affected streets, where the cleaning crews performed soapy buckets and removed debris accumulated by the dragging of rainwater.
The neighbors positively assessed the action, which they described as a quick and effective response. «It was a necessary cleanup. The smell was unbearable, but today the neighborhood smells clean,» commented a resident of the area.

]]>«The City Council maintains constant control over the cleaning concessionaire and we cannot allow situations like those of the last few days, where the service has not been provided as it should be, to be repeated. It is intolerable the state in which the municipality was«, warned the fourth deputy mayor and councilman of Environmental Management and Cleaning, Jordi Grivé.
In parallel, the Local Police of Ibiza has filed a totalof 16 complaints in just two days for violations of the municipal wasteordinance. These sanctions are part of the surveillance and control work that the police force performs continuously in different parts of the municipality.
Among the most outstanding actions is the denunciation of a woman caught leaving a mattress in Galicia Street, as well as the sanctioning of the manager of a beauty salon in Bisbe González Abarca Street for leaving hairdressing utensils on the public road.

During the day on Monday, the agents also located the improper dumping of several bulky objects, such as bottles, doors, oil bottles and other utensils, the abandonment of which is a violation of the ordinance. The municipal cleaning service immediately proceeded to remove this waste for proper management.
These actions are part of the regular inspection devices executed by the Local Police by order of headquarters, in order to ensure compliance with regulations and maintain in good condition public spaces.

The City Council reminds citizens that bulky objects, such as furniture or appliances, should be deposited only on the days and times established for each neighborhood. The winter schedule for the collection of tools is currently in force, so it is recommended to consult the updated calendar or contact the municipal service before removing any object to the public road, in order to avoid penalties.

]]>Among the materials removed are mainly wipes, tampons and gauze, products that, according to the councilman beautification, Jordi Grivé Cardona, «should never be flushed down the toilet». These elements, unlike toilet paper, do not break down with water, but are compacted, forming real «mountains of fibers» that cause clogs of great magnitude in the sewage networks, said the City Council of Ibiza.
The impact of this practice goes far beyond physical damage to pipelines. The blockages generated by this waste seriously affect the operation of pumping systems, increasing cleaning, repair and maintenance costs.
According to Grivé , the removal and management of this waste costs hundreds of thousands of euros a year, a cost that he describes as «unnecessary and avoidable». Added to this is the environmental impact derived from the dumping of non-biodegradable materials and the additional use of water and energy resources to solve the blockages.
«We need your collaboration for this,» emphasizes the City Council and reminds the remind the population that nothing but toilet paper should be flushed down the toilet. should be flushed down the toilet.
In view of this situation, the local authorities have made an urgent appeal for citizen collaboration, appealing to individual responsibility to preserve the proper functioning of the sanitation system.
The message is clear and direct:
To the toilet, toilet paper only.
The rest (wipes, sanitary napkins, tampons, rags), to the wastebasket.

On the other hand, today the Cleaning agreement pays 1,387 euros per month. For those who hire independent professionals and not a cleaning company, the value of the agreement is even lower: 1,323 euros gross per month.
