]]>According to the Consistory, in 2022 the works had already begun without the required municipal authorization, which is why a preliminary proceedings file was opened for urban infraction and the works were ordered to be stopped. Subsequently, the developer presented a basic execution project for the reform, legalization and extension of the building, which was approved by the Local Government Board in August 2024.
Once the basic project was approved, the developer submitted the execution project, but the Town Planning Department detected deficiencies that had to be corrected before issuing the final license. The City Council stresses that, in this administrative situation, the works could not have been restarted.
The institution has issued a decreeparalyzing the works again, for lack of current authorization andordering the sealing of the area, due to the obvious lack of safety reasons.
The incident that has motivated the municipal explanations occurred this Thursday, when the roof of the house under renovation gave way, causing the fall of a 53 year old Senegalese worker. The man suffered polycontusions when he fell among the debris and had to be assisted by the health services before being taken by ambulance to the Hospital Can Misses. There he remained under observation and was discharged after 21.00 hours, according to sources from the Health Area of the Pitiusas.
A second worker was also injured, although slightly, and was taken to the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario, where he was discharged hours later.
The notice of the accident reached the Fire Department of Ibiza at around 12.00 hours. Nine firefighters were sent to the scene, as it was initially feared that there could be more people trapped under the collapse, but this was not confirmed. Also participating in the operation were the Local Police of Santa Eulària and the Guardia Civil, whose Judicial Police team has opened proceedings to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
With the area already sealed and the works formally paralyzed, the investigation opened by the Guardia Civil must determine the causes of the collapse and whether the unauthorized restart of the work could have influenced the incident. At the same time, the developer must comply with the technical requirements issued by the City Council in order to obtain a valid license.
