The investigation began last February 7 when agents of the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the National Police in Ibiza became aware that the owner of an establishment was receiving serious threats and being extorted by a group of people demanding payment of an alleged debt of 30,000 euros.
Persistent harassment led the victim to hand over up to 20,000 euros to his extortionists, although the pressure and threats did not stop. Two days later, on February 9, the situation escalated when the National Police received an 091 alert for a possible altercation at the affected business.
When the agents arrived at the establishment, they found the victim and others barricaded in an interior area of the premises, visibly upset and fearing for their lives.
According to what they said, the assailants were inside with the intention of continuing with the threats and demanding the remaining money.
In this situation, the agents immediately detained three people, while the UDEV investigation group activated an operation to locate and arrest the other three people involved in the following days.
One of the detainees, identified as the ringleader of the group, has also been charged with a crime of robbery with violence committed in another district under the jurisdiction of the Civil Guard.
The six people arrested have already been brought to court and the investigation is expected to continue in order to clarify all the details of the case. In the meantime, the authorities urge the public to report any type of extortion or threat that puts their safety at risk.
