Representatives of different associations linked to the traditional games and sports of the Balearic Islands participated last weekend, on December 19, in an informative meeting held in Palma de Mallorca, in one of the rooms of the headquarters of the Direcció General de Cultura. The meeting served to officially present the working group of the Associació Balear de Jocs i Esports Tradicionals, an entity registered for years at the Conselleria de Presidència del Govern balear.

The meeting aroused considerable interest among the invited individuals and groups, many of whom expressed their commitment to the preservation and dissemination of the islands’ own traditions. Although some associations were unable to attend due to prior commitments, they expressed their willingness to stay informed and participate in future meetings.

Among the attendees were representatives of various traditional disciplines, such as Guiem Vizcaíno, from Inca, linked to the game of baldufa or peonza; Joan Llodrà, from Palma, a specialist in tir de fona and a teacher and writer; Biel Pons, also from Palma, representing the card game truc; Esteve Barceló and Pep Nicolau, from Montuïri, linked to the joc de la tella; journalist Juanjo Machado; Miquel Sagreras, from Porreres, from ASBATRA; and Pep Ribas Ribas, from Eivissa, president of Jocs Tradicionals de Balears.

During the meeting, the close collaboration that the Balearic association maintains with entities throughout Spain was highlighted, especially with the Canary Islands, noted for its extensive catalog of traditional customs and its outreach work. It was also recalled the existence of contacts and shared projects with associations from different European and Asian countries and, very significantly, from Latin America.

Participants agreed on the need to preserve and publicize their own traditions, as well as to strengthen the union between groups to gain presence in the media, improve the exchange of information on activities and take a more vindictive stance towards public administrations. In this sense, the usefulness of the Facebook profile «Jocs Tradicionals de Balears» was highlighted as a platform for sharing workshops, festivals, conferences, competitions, exhibitions and meetings, both in the Balearic Islands and in other territories.

It was also reported that the Balearic Parliament has recently unanimously approved a Proposition Not of Law (PNL) on the traditional games and sports of the islands, an institutional support that the attendees valued as an important step for the recognition of this cultural heritage.

Among future projects, it was announced the intention to organize in 2026 a major international event of traditional games and sports in one of the islands, with the participation of autonomous communities and foreign countries, following the model of the meeting held seven years ago in the Parc de la Mar, in front of the Cathedral of Palma.

The meeting concluded with the commitment to maintain contact between the associations present and those interested in joining future calls, which is expected to expand to other areas such as lateen sailing, history, publications, the ball de bot, traditional music, ancient crafts and handicrafts. The meeting ended with an exchange of good wishes for Christmas and New Year 2026, and with the shared feeling that there is still a long way to go in the defense and projection of Balearic traditions.

When talking about strategies in casino games, two classics always come to the fore: blackjack and roulette. Both combine chance and calculation, which has motivated generations of players to search for methods that increase their chances of winning. However, the question remains the same: do these strategies really work or are they more myth than reality?

On platforms such as Savaspin, where Spanish players enjoy modern versions of these games with an initial bonus of 150% up to €150 and 100 free spins by applying the promotional code SAVAES100, tactics are put to the test with full transparency. Although chance remains the dominant factor, some strategies can – if well applied – improve the odds.

Blackjack: between mathematics and psychology

Blackjack, also known as «21», is one of the few casino games where the player’s skill directly influences the outcome. Unlike roulette, not everything depends on luck. There are mathematical systems designed to guide the player’s decisions based on the visible cards.

The most famous is the basic blackjack strategy, developed in the 1950s by mathematicians such as Edward O. Thorp. This system uses a table that indicates the optimal play in each situation (hit, stand, double or split), considering the dealer’s card and the player’s hand.

For example, if you have a 16 and the dealer shows a 10, the mathematical probability suggests calling a card, even if intuition says otherwise. In the long run, following the table reduces the house edge from 2% to just 0.5%, making blackjack one of the «fairest» games in the casino.

On sites such as Savaspin, this strategy can be applied both at automated tables and in live blackjack, where players interact with real dealers in real time. The Multihand and Speed Blackjack versions also allow the basic strategy to be practiced at different speeds.

Card counting: myth and reality

No topic generates more debate than card counting. Popularized by movies such as 21 or Rain Man, this method is based on keeping a mental record of the high and low cards that are coming out of the deck. The logic is simple: when there are more high cards (tens, figures and aces) left in the deck, the player has a greater advantage.

The best known system is the Hi-Lo Count, which assigns +1 values to low cards (2-6), 0 to medium cards (7-9) and -1 to high cards (10-A). If the count is positive, the player increases his bet; if negative, he reduces it.

However, in modern practice, this system has lost its effectiveness. Physical casinos use multiple decks and shuffle frequently to neutralize the counters. In online casinos, the software automatically shuffles each round, making tracking impossible.

In the digital environment of Savaspin and other licensed platforms in Spain, card counting has no real impact. What does work is bankroll management, i.e. managing the balance to withstand negative streaks without committing the entire budget. Betting only a small percentage of the total balance per hand (generally between 2% and 5%) is still the most effective strategy.

Roulette strategies: between probability and illusion

Roulette, by its nature, is a game of pure chance. Each spin is independent of the previous one, which means that there is no real predictable pattern. However, this has not prevented the emergence of legendary strategies, some with more substance than others.

The most popular is the Martingale, which consists of doubling the bet after each loss to recover what was lost on the first hit. In theory, it seems infallible; in practice, the table limit and the available bankroll make it unsustainable. A losing streak of eight spins is enough to exhaust the balance.

Another more moderate variant is the Paroli, where the player doubles only after a win. This method seeks to take advantage of winning streaks without exposing oneself so much. There is also the Fibonacci, inspired by the famous mathematical sequence, which increases the bets gradually.

Although they all share the illusion of control, none of them eliminates the house edge, which in European roulette (the most common in Spain) is maintained at 2.7% thanks to the single zero on the board. The key is not to beat the system, but to understand it and use limited and diversified betting strategies.

In Savaspin, European live roulette allows you to follow the statistics of each spin, but without falling into the error of the «fallacious player»: the thought that, if red comes out five times in a row, black «must come out». Each spin is independent, and the probability does not change.

Live roulette and modern versions

2025 has brought with it new versions that have revitalized this classic. In Savaspin, titles such as Lightning Roulette and Mega Roulette, developed by Evolution and Pragmatic Play Live, stand out.

These versions include random multipliers that can raise prizes up to 500x or 2,000x, introducing an additional excitement and strategy factor. Although the outcome remains random, the player can adjust his bets to individual numbers or sections of the board with higher risk and reward.

Themed and immersive roulettes have also appeared, where players can interact with the dealer and other users. This social component has attracted a new generation that values the experience as much as the winnings.

The mathematical advantage of these versions remains between 2.7% and 3.0%, depending on the game mechanics, which makes them comparable to classic roulette but much more entertaining.

Conclusion

Blackjack and roulette strategies work only within their limits. In blackjack, basic strategy reduces the house edge and enhances the player’s decisions. In roulette, strategies are more psychological than mathematical, and their success depends on discipline.
