]]>The action took place during the morning of January 2 in the vicinity of the Parque de la Paz, coinciding with the first day of application of the new municipal regulations that require these vehicles to be registered with the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) and to have civil liability insurance.
Among the infractions detected are driving with headphones, not respecting red lights and driving through prohibited areas such as sidewalks or pedestrian areas, something frequent in points such as Vara de Rey, the Peace Park itself, the Figueretes promenade or the Abel Matutes boulevard.

Since January 2, all users of electric scooters in Ibiza are required to register their vehicles with the DGT and take out mandatory liability insurance.
This measure is part of a strategy of the Ibiza Town Hall to reinforce road safety, reduce risks for both pedestrians and drivers, and reduce the number of infractions.
The Local Police has warned that it will intensify surveillance to ensure compliance with these new rules. In its official channels, the force has reiterated that prevention and respect for traffic rules are fundamental, especially those that directly affect the safety of pedestrians.
«Prevention and respect for the rules is essential, especially those that put pedestrians at risk, such as driving on sidewalks or pedestrian areas such as Vara de Rey, Parque de la Paz, Paseo de Figueretes or Bulevar Abel Matutes,» said the local police in a message posted on social networks.
The new regulation responds to the exponential increase in the use of MPVs in the urban area of Ibiza in recent years. The authorities believe that registration and mandatory insurance will allow greater traceability of these vehicles, facilitate identification in case of accidents and improve coexistence with pedestrians and other drivers.

]]>La entrada The call for four Local Police vacancies in Ibiza attracts 75 applicants se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.
]]>The call corresponds to four positions of the scale of Special Administration, subscale of Special Services, class Local Police and its auxiliaries, through the competitive examination system in free shift. The rules governing the process were published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) no. 144, of October 30, 2025.
These new positions are part of the modification of the Public Employment Offer (OPO) of 2025, approved by the Local Government Board on October 20. Their incorporation responds to the replacement rate established by state legislation, which considers public safety a priority sector within the municipal competences.
Currently, the Ibiza Local Police has 99 members. In the last decade, the force has grown by less than 11%, while the population of the municipality has grown by around 30%. This imbalance between the demographic and tourist increase and the evolution of the police force has led the City Council to strengthen the body with new additions.
The objective is to ensure the safety and welfare of citizens, as well as to meet the increase in services generated by the capital of Ibiza, especially in periods of increased tourist pressure.
The approval of this job offer is framed within the powers delegated to the Local Government Board by Mayoral Decree no. 2023-5703, dated June 21, 2023, published in BOIB no. 88, dated June 29, 2023. All of the above in accordance with the provisions of Article 21 of Law 7/1985, regulating the Bases of Local Government.

]]>The operation took place in two properties: one located in the urban center of Sant Antoni and the other in the area of Sant Rafel. Both were inspected by plainclothes agents and members of the UCRIF, a unit specialized in illegal immigration networks and false documents.
In the house inspected in Sant Antoni, the agents confirmed the existence of prostitution activity, with payments made both in cash and by dataphone. Two sex workers and a client were identified inside the house.
The apartment had already been inspected three times in 2025 by UCRIF, which confirms that it was a recurring point for the exercise of this activity.
In the house located on the outskirts of Sant Rafel, the agents also determined that prostitution was being carried out.
The device is part of the joint actions promoted by the headquarters of both police forces, with the aim of strengthening surveillance and control of illegal activities in the municipality. The operation involved non-uniformed officers of the National Police and plainclothes officers of the Local Police of Sant Antoni.
The Councilor for Citizen Safety, Neus Mateu, thanked the work of the agents and stressed the importance of institutional cooperation to «ensure coexistence and compliance with the regulations«.
After the interventions, the Activities Department of the City Council of Sant Antoni will open the corresponding administrative files related to the inspected homes.
For its part, the National Police Station will initiate the pertinent administrative proceedings with respect to the persons identified during the operation.

]]>The position of the municipal government comes hours after the PSOE registered a motion of control demanding explanations for what they describe as a «sudden and silenced dismissal», barely a year after his appointment and less than a month after Valverde was decorated with two medals by the insular institution.
In its communiqué, the City emphasizes two main clarifications:
There was no dismissal: the departure of the Local Police Chief was a voluntary resignation, not a dismissal.
Error in dates: the presentation of Felix Julio Valverde as the new chief took place in November 2024, and not in 2023 as indicated in the PSOE’s note.
The consistory also publicly thanked the police commander for the services provided during his time at the head of the force, highlighting actions such as the eviction of Can Rova 2.
The municipal version contrasts with that of the PSOE, which demands that the mayor, Carmen Ferrer, explain «what happened» between the recent decoration of the police chief and his «hasty dismissal». The socialist spokesman, Alan Ripoll, believes that the public «deserves to know why in less than a month has gone from praising the police chief to a departure without official communication or institutional photographs».
The Socialists point out that the resignation became known on November 19 through a local radio station and criticize that there was no prior official communication from the City Council.
In addition, the PSOE links the situation to a «progressive deterioration» of the police service, pointing out that union representatives have been demanding labor improvements for years which, according to the party, the municipal government has not attended to. These shortcomings, they point out, have caused the departure of agents and a «lack of police presence in the streets», which has been repeatedly mentioned by neighbors in meetings with the mayoress.
In their note, the socialists suggest that the departure could be due to a loss of confidence of the municipal government, pointing to «growing rumors» about a forced resignation. In this sense, they ask for explanations as to when and how Valverde was informed of this hypothetical loss of confidence, and what would be the causes of such a drastic change of opinion in such a short period of time.
The PSOE considers that the lack of official information is «especially serious» in the case of a figure that the City Council itself had recently presented as an example of professionalism and excellence.
The Socialist Municipal Group also demands to know if the City Council plans to open a «transparent» process to select the new person in charge of the body, as well as the assessment of the councilman of Citizen Security on the treatment received by the agents by the Human Resources area.
For the moment, the City Council has limited itself to clarifying that Valverde’s departure was voluntary and to correcting the data it considers erroneous in the socialist communiqué, without offering more details on the next steps to fill the police chief position.

]]>During these actions, the agents have carried out a specific surveillance in clean points, streets with repeated irregular dumping and historic neighborhoods, detecting a significant increase in deposits after hours and abandonment of bulky objects. Only in the last two days have been processed

On the same day, the agents located gas cylinders, doors, oil bottles and other utensils irregularly deposited in the street. The municipal cleaning service had to proceed to their removal and proper management, given the danger and negative impact of this waste on the urban environment.
The City Council recalls that last week, in a device deployed in the Marina and Dalt Vila, the Local Police reported three people for violations related to coexistence and misuse of public space. In addition, a specific control in the Obispo Huix street ended with five sanctions for improper dumping, and in Menorca street the person responsible for leaving furniture outside the authorized day and time was identified.
The Consistory stresses that these interventions are part of the ordinary operations that are being reinforced in view of the increase in waste infractions. It also recalls that

]]>The incident occurred on Sunday morning, minutes before 08:30 hours, when the command center received a call from a neighbor alerting about the presence of a woman with a knife on the outside terrace of a house located on Monte Calvario street.
Seven local police officers were called to the scene, with the collaboration of two patrols of the Civil Guard. Once in the area, the officers verified that the house showed no signs of force or forced access, and located the suspect hiding under some blankets on the communal terrace.
According to the police report, the woman ignored the officers’ orders to identify herself. At the moment when the officers removed the blankets, she pulled out a knife with a blade of about 10 centimeters and threw several thrusts in the direction of the police officers.
The agents managed to reduce and disarm her without injury. During the subsequent search, a second large butcher knife was found among his belongings.
The woman was arrested and taken to the Can Misses Health Center for a medical evaluation, after which she was taken to court.

In the last ten years, the corps has grown by less than 11%, while the population of the municipality has increased by around 30%. The new agents will now begin their internship phase in the different municipalities of Ibiza and Formentera, with a minimum duration of six months and a maximum of one year.
Of the graduates, 17 have accessed their positions through the calls of the municipalities of Ibiza (8), Sant Antoni (4), Sant Josep (2) and Formentera (3).
The remaining six, having passed the competitive examination without obtaining a position, will be incorporated into a temporary employment pool to cover needs in the different municipalities.
With this promotion, the police staff on the islands is reinforced, a key aspect to face the high season, when the demand for agents increases significantly.
According to data from the Govern, since the beginning of the legislature, Ibiza and Formentera have added a total of 47 new agents, including trainees and interim agents.
During the closing ceremony, the Councilor of Presidency and Public Administrations, Antònia Maria Estarellas, stressed the importance of continuing to strengthen the training of police forces and adapt the EBAP programs to the specific needs of each municipality.

]]>The investigation was initiated after witnessing the event, in which a counterfeit high-end watch was intended to be sold for a price ranging from 90 to 110 euros.
The seller had his vehicle with the doors open and a large quantity of bags inside. This led to a search of the car and the discovery of material that appeared to be counterfeits of several well-known brands, replicas or unauthorized reproductions of registered trademarks, as the agents understood that they could infringe industrial property rights.

Given the large volume of items found in the vehicle, two marked police vehicles were needed to transport the seized items to the Santa Eulària police station in order to carry out a thorough inventory.
Once at police headquarters, and after reviewing the seized goods, the agents found that many of the products were very reliable imitations, which made it difficult to distinguish between the genuine product and the counterfeit.

In total, 17 watches, 11 jackets, 2 perfumes, 4 wallets, 55 pairs of sneakers, 15 packs of men’s and women’s underwear, 5 packs of socks, 71 T-shirts, 29 tracksuits and 24 sweatshirts were seized. In view of these facts, the local police decided to open proceedings for a crime against industrial property.

]]>The 800-hour training program includes training in areas such as traffic regulation, citizen attention, legal fundamentals and digital skills. Once completed, the candidates will go on to a period of evaluable practices in their respective municipalities, coinciding with the start of the summer season, when the demand for security on the islands increases significantly. According to the Conselleria de Presidencia y Administraciones Públicas, this initiative responds to a historical need of the city councils to cover vacancies and reinforce the staff during the months of greater tourist affluence. In addition, from the Conselleria they emphasize that these actions are part of an overall strategy to ensure the quality and efficiency of public safety services in the Balearic Islands.
For the first time, the teaching staff of the course has new professionals from the chiefs of the Part Forana, which seeks to enrich the training to include diversity of operational and local experiences. In addition, those applicants who did not obtain a place in this phase will become part of a single bag that will allow municipalities to cover urgent needs in their police forces. The formation of this promotion reflects the effort to modernize and organize the police selection processes in the Balearic Islands, attending to the demands of the municipalities and the security needs of the citizens. With their incorporation in May, the islands will receive a significant reinforcement at a key moment of the year.

The situation highlights the lack of resources and housing solutions on the island, while the authorities try to manage the growing social pressure resulting from squatting. The City Council defends that the objective of the eviction was to stop an illegal activity and guarantee the rights of the owners, but the discomfort of those affected and the recent complaints show a deeper problem, related to the housing crisis in Ibiza. The resolution of this case will not only determine the future of the complaints, but could set a precedent for future similar operations on the island.
