The Leisure Association of Ibiza and Formentera has delivered 25,000 euros to Caritas Ibiza as part of its Christmas campaign, a contribution that adds to an overall volume of aid of 3.6 million euros from the island’s nightlife sector, according to data made public by the association.

The donation was approved at the last assembly of the association, which is made up of 36 establishments and is financed exclusively through membership dues. This contribution is part of the Caritas campaign «Let’s ensure that having a decent life is no longer a matter of luck», promoted in the middle of the Christmas season.

3.6 million of associated leisure in 2025

The Asociación Ocio de Ibiza y Formentera expects the solidarity actions of its premises to reach 3.6 million euros by 2025, destined for social, cultural, sports and environmental projects on the island.

This figure includes sponsorships as well as direct donations and the organization of solidarity events, a line of collaboration that the entity has maintained for eleven years.

The president of Ocio de Ibiza, Jesús Sainz, stressed that «the needs are many and the resources are always insufficient», highlighting the importance of financially supporting entities such as Caritas to combat poverty and social exclusion in Ibiza.

Economic impact and employment

In addition to the solidarity contributions, the 36 establishments associated with Ocio de Ibiza generate 4,200 direct jobs and 700 indirect jobs, figures that, according to the entity, certify the weight of the leisure and entertainment sector within the economic and social fabric of the island.

Ocio de Ibiza stresses the importance of financially supporting the work carried out by Caritas to maintain and strengthen services aimed at combating poverty and social exclusion on the island.

«This new donation is a sign of the sector’s commitment to an entity whose work is essential. We are aware that the needs are many and the resources are always insufficient,» said the president of Ocio de Ibiza, Jesús Sainz.

For his part, the director of Caritas, Joan Torres, said that «the involvement of Ibizan companies in helping those most in need is a sign of social commitment and a repeated request of Caritas in Ibiza».

The manager of the Asociación Ocio de Ibiza y Formentera, José Luis Benítez, also stressed the collective responsibility of collaborating with this type of initiative and encouraged other companies and entities to join in supporting Cáritas. «Behind their work there are many families in need, a great effort on the part of volunteers and professionals, and educational, social and labor projects that require all the economic help possible to move forward. I take this opportunity to encourage individuals and companies in Ibiza to collaborate with Cáritas Ibiza», he added.

The manager also recalled that, for eleven years, the premises associated with Ocio de Ibiza have been collaborating on an ongoing basis with social, cultural, sports and environmental entities on the island through sponsorships, donations and the organization of solidarity events. Altogether, these actions will reach 3.6 million euros in 2025, a figure that the association expects to continue to increase in the coming years.

Cáritas attended 3,000 people in Ibiza

During the ceremony, the director of Caritas Ibiza, recalled that this year the organization has served about 3,000 people on the island, offering 80 meals a day to people without resources, in addition to social support programs, employment and shelter for immigrants.

Caritas not only distributes food, but develops a comprehensive care that requires professional staff and a significant economic effort, explained Torres, who stressed the steady increase in social needs in Ibiza.

More than one million for sports in Sant Josep

The impact of the sector also extends to the sports field. The mayor of Sant Josep, Vicent Roig, stated during the International Nightlife Congress held in Valencia that the municipality’s leisure venues participate in more than one million euros in funding to clubs and sporting events, both nationally and internationally.

«Without that funding it would not be possible to maintain key sporting events at the beginning and end of the season, which are fundamental for the deseasonalization,» Roig told La Voz de IbizaRoig told La Voz de Ibiza, highlighting the importance of the leisure sector in the economy and the sports calendar of the municipality.

The unexpected result of a study on nightlife that dethrones Ibiza https://lavozdeibiza.com/current-news/the-unexpected-result-of-a-study-on-nightlife-that-dethrones-ibiza/ Thu, 27 Nov 2025 12:34:26 +0000 https://lavozdeibiza.com/sin-categorizar/the-unexpected-result-of-a-study-on-nightlife-that-dethrones-ibiza/ An international report places another city at number one worldwide for nightlife, ahead of mythical destinations such as New York, Berlin or Paris. Europe dominates the ranking and an emerging capital surprises by sneaking into the top positions.

Although many people associate the best nightlife in the world with destinations such as Ibiza, New York, Berlin or Paris, the truth is that none of these cities takes first place in an international ranking. The surprise comes from Barcelona, which according to a study by the JB platform has become the great global capital of nightlife thanks to its variety of venues, extensive opening hours and a vibrant atmosphere that attracts both tourists and residents.

The report ranks the Catalan capital as number one for its high concentration of bars -more than 300 per 100 square kilometers-, the affordable price of drinks and places that can stay open until six in the morning. In addition to Barcelona, the top 10 is completed by Paris, Prague, Tokyo, Budapest and Tbilisi, five of them European cities with a strong tradition of nightlife entertainment.

Safety is another key element of the study. The data reveals that four out of ten tourists go out drinking when they travel and that nightlife accounts for around 15% of the total vacation budget. Other analysis in the UK shows that adults spend an average of £3,776 a year in pubs, bars and nightclubs, although attendance at traditional clubs has been declining among younger people.

One of the big surprises in the ranking is Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, which appears in seventh place. Its emerging atmosphere, popular «Wine Street», rooftop bars and affordable drink prices have put it ahead of established destinations such as Bangkok or Tbilisi, making it a booming option for those looking for different nightlife experiences.

Meanwhile, Barcelona itself continues to diversify its offer with the rise of the tardeos, evening gatherings that combine music, tapas and drinks outdoors. This trend, increasingly popular among locals and visitors, adds to the city’s powerful nightlife and expands the range of proposals for enjoying urban leisure beyond the early hours of the morning.

No closing hours, the proposal that the underground world wants to import from Berlin https://lavozdeibiza.com/current-news/no-closing-hours-the-proposal-that-the-underground-world-wants-to-import-from-berlin/ Wed, 19 Nov 2025 13:03:52 +0000 https://lavozdeibiza.com/sin-categorizar/no-closing-hours-the-proposal-that-the-underground-world-wants-to-import-from-berlin/ Angela Torres, a member of the Barcelona Night Commission that is part of the Night Office, has raised the benefits that such an operation of nightclubs and bars would have, in addition to advocating a "pilot test".

No opening or closing hours, in addition to the possibility of being open 24 hours a day. This has been one of the proposals that has attracted the most attention among the conferences held within the framework of the 10th International Congress of Nightlife Leisure which is taking place in Valencia.

The initiative was detailed by Angela Torres, co-founder of the Barcelona Nightlife Commission during the round table discussion entitled «Women who light up the night: leadership and talent in nightlife«.

For some years now, Barcelona has been implementing the Office of the Night, a kind of night mayor’s office. «We are part of the Permanent Council that meets quarterly and there are more than 70 institutions and local entities,» explains Torres in dialogue with La Voz de Ibiza.

The Commission raises the possibility of lifting any time restrictions, taking the example of Berlin’s nighttime ecosystem.

In this context, Torres advocates a«one-weekend pilot test. To really test: we go out on Friday, we do the usual route, and no one knows that, at a certain point, there will be no one to turn on the lights, to turn off the music. And let no one know that, at a certain point, there will be no one to turn on the lights, no one to turn off the music. What’s going on here? Today, doors open.

– The proposal that generated interest is that there should be no closing hours for the premises.

– Exactly, but both the daytime and the nighttime. That is to say, you can go to a place, to a club, because there is a difference between discotheques and clubs, at the time you want. If a space of leisure or night culture decides that its public can go at eight o’clock in the morning, let’s say, and go out at night, or go at night and go out at eight or nine o’clock in the morning, as it is done in Berlin. In Berlin there is no curfew. They have it for a historical reason.

– What is the historical reason?

– After the World War, there was like a meeting between hotel people, restaurateurs, and as people were crushed by the war, they needed a break, after the 20’s. They decided that the best way was to free the night a little bit. And that applied to theaters, nightclubs, cabarets.

– So Berlin today has no closing time, and is there any other paradigm or example in Europe that has no closing time?

– Some other cities in Germany, such as Leipzig, have also opened 24 hours. And Amsterdam, I don’t know if it’s good that there are no closing hours, but there are spaces that during the day have one function and at night they have another.

– In Spain, what social benefit would there be if this scenario of freedom were implemented?

– First, there would be fewer noise complaints, because people would leave the premises more staggered. They would not concentrate at 6 a.m., at 7 a.m., a lot of public.

Angela Torres, from the underground world of Barcelona

– But there would still be a closing time for each club.

– Yes, but you can go in and out, at least in Berlin you can go home, you can come back, you have a cuff, a stamp, a wristband. In some clubs it has become fashionable to charge you to come back in. In Berlin there are 24-hour clubs that never close.

– What other advantages would it have?

– Occasional crowds, the fact of informal sale of alcohol in the queue, because you are waiting to enter, to leave, you do not know where to go, the afters have not yet opened …. This flow of people who can’t go home…. This, on the one hand, and on the other hand, in terms of substance consumption, which cannot be ignored, we have to talk about it and we have to talk about it face to face, it exists and we cannot eliminate it. Everyone can do what they want, but there would be a more responsible consumption or less concentrated in three hours. Because here we have the habit of going out of the house, having a preview with friends until 1 o’clock, 2 o’clock, or until the time limit that you can enter for free or you have a list and at 6 o’clock you are kicked out. I’m not a big consumer of substances, rather I don’t drink or alcohol, but there are people who do, and in three hours it’s a lot of cane for the body.

– Are there after hours in Barcelona?

– Yes, but they are informal. There are, but they are a bit small mouthed because they are bars, cafeterias, some of them use a cafeteria license. There are spaces that are with the door closed, which is a club that you have to be a member. The institutions do not know where they are and we are not going to tell them because they do not cause problems. They don’t know where they are because they don’t have to send anyone to avoid fights or aggressions. And we want them to stay that way.
