The Plaza de Sant Miquel will host a new edition of the Balansat Christmas Market, an event open to all citizens to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere in a familiar and close environment. The market will offer a wide variety of typical products of these dates, such as sauce, bescuit, fritters, bread with sobrasada, cakes, Christmas plants and handmade crafts, with the aim of highlighting the value of local production.
The little ones will be the protagonists with a full program of children’s activities that will include bouncy castle, face painting, games, stories and playful proposals for all ages. In addition, there will be second-hand toys and board games, promoting reuse, responsible consumption and coexistence.
The Balansat Christmas Market is organized by the APIMA of CEIP Balansat, with the collaboration of the Ajuntament de Sant Joan de Labritja, and is consolidated as one of the most beloved Christmas events in the municipality, where tradition and neighborhood participation welcome the holidays.

The Ibizan artist Júlia Ribas presents ‘Tardor’, her first exhibition in Sant Joan, an exhibition with about 40 works inspired by traditional architecture, farmhouses and natural landscapes of the municipality.
The exhibition combines mixed media on canvas and local supports such as reclaimed wood and juniper tagell, in a journey that connects heritage, autumn light and visual memory of the territory.

]]>The exhibition brings together about 40 works created mostly during the autumn, a period whose light and tonalities have inspired the whole of the exhibition and which give the project its name.
Architecture, tradition and autumn light
In the main hall visitors will be able to contemplate a series of pieces dedicated to the farmhouses of different villages of the municipality, as well as the church of Sant Joan, the protagonist of the official poster of the exhibition. Although the buildings represented are recognizable, they are pictorial interpretations worked with mixed media on canvas, in which color and material evoke the traditional construction elements of the island.
The second room introduces works of natural themes, including marine, posidonia scenes, olive trees, junipers, pines and fig trees, as well as representations of bell towers in the municipality. These pieces are made not only on canvas, but also on recovered wood and juniper tagell, incorporating materials from the local environment.
‘Tardor’ can be visited until January 11, from Monday to Saturday, from 10 am to 1 pm, and on Sundays, from 10 am to 2 pm.

After hearing the news, the City Council of Sant Joan has decided to suspend the act of lighting the Christmas lights, scheduled for Friday afternoon, as a sign of mourning. The Consistory has sent its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

In June, the Consell Executiu awarded the drafting of the executive project and the construction management for an amount of 96,800 euros (VAT included), which allowed to start the technical work prior to the demolition.
Then, both the president of the Consell, Vicent Marí, and the mayor of Sant Joan, Tania Marí, stressed the importance of this intervention to «close a visual and ecological wound» in the north coast. The structure, initially intended to become a hotel complex, was left half built in the seventies and since then has meant an environmental and landscape impact in an area of special natural value.
With the processing of the demolition project already underway, the Consell is moving towards the comprehensive restoration of this environment, in line with the strategies for the protection of the territory and the coastline that the institution defends for Ibiza.

During the ceremony, held in the municipality and attended by local and island authorities, Mayor Tania Marí stressed that these awards seek to recognize «the people who make Sant Joan great», referring to the legacy and dedication of the honorees.
A life dedicated to education in Sant Joan
The Gold Medal was awarded to Teresa Elías for her 34-year career as head of the municipal school of Benirràs, a center that she directed until her retirement two years ago.
The award recognizes his role in the consolidation of the center as a reference point on the island, thanks to his drive, management and community spirit.
«It is an honor to have your life’s work recognized,» Elias said before the ceremony, noting that the award is also for «all the people who made this project possible.»
The teacher, born in Argentina and resident on the island since 1979, thanked the support of her colleagues, families of the municipality and her close environment, present during the ceremony.
The mayor, a former student of Elías, praised the dedication and sensitivity of the honoree, recalling how she transformed the center from its beginnings, when it barely had the basics, to become an educational model.
«We managed to make it the vanguard of Ibiza’s escoletes,» said Elías herself, who lived in Cala de Sant Vicent and Sant Llorenç and remains emotionally linked to Sant Joan.
Citizen Merit to Eivissa Club 4×4 for its help in the dana of Valencia
The group Eivissa Club 4×4 received the Citizen Merit Award for its solidarity work during the emergency caused by the dana that affected the Valencian Community in November 2024. The entity was recognized for its logistical and human support in the field.
«We left five vehicles loaded with food, boots, shovels and gloves,» explained José Marí Roig, Cudulà, president of the group, who recalled the four and a half days of work in areas such as Albal and Catarroja, where they helped clear streets to facilitate the work of firefighters.

The award for Sporting Merit was presented to the Portinatx Cycling Team, founded in 2014, for its trajectory and promotion of sport in the municipality.
Its president, Raúl Rodríguez Granado, thanked for the recognition on behalf of the team and described it as «a sign that we are doing things right».
The club, which started in the soccer field of Sant Miquel, today has 114 members between two and 60 years old, and organizes multiple activities: mountain races, road cycling and children’s races, as well as collaborating in events such as the MTB Tour of Ibiza.
According to its president, the group’s objective is to continue to be «a family club with a good atmosphere» and to guarantee generational succession to ensure its continuity.

]]>A key infrastructure for connectivity in northern Ibiza
The manager of IB Digital, Miquel Cardona, and the insular director of New Technologies and Citizen Service Office, Javier Torres, visited the facilities to certify the completion of the construction works, which were in charge of the company Sampol. The new tower will significantly improve the coverage of the emergency communications network (TetraIB), as well as the Govern’s sensor network (IoTIB) in the north of the island.
According to IB Digital, the tower also represents a great opportunity for private telephone and internet operators, since it will allow the installation of antennas to improve coverage in the area. In fact, contacts have already been initiated with different companies interested in expanding their network using this new infrastructure.
Next steps before start-up
Although the construction of the tower has already been completed, electrification work will be carried out in the next few months, which is expected to be completed in a maximum of three months. Once the electrical network and meters have been installed, the communication antennas will be installed. The tower is estimated to be operational in four to five months, just in time for the peak summer season.
The installation is part of IB Digital’s plan to reinforce the telecommunications network in the Balearic Islands, with an investment of 12.4 million euros co-financed with Feder Funds 21-27. This program seeks to improve safety and the tourist experience through the expansion of communication and sensorization networks on the islands.
More coverage for emergencies and intelligent territorial management
One of the main objectives of this new tower is to strengthen the communications network of the emergency services in Ibiza. The TetraIB network is used to coordinate interventions in crisis situations, mass events and security operations. Currently, Ibiza has a coverage of 70%, the lowest in the archipelago, but with the installation of new antennas it is expected to reach 89%, placing it at the level of the rest of the islands.
On the other hand, the IoTIB network, which allows to intelligently manage aspects such as the capacity of beaches, water use or public transport, will also be strengthened with the installation of more antennas on the island. Currently, Ibiza has 7 antennas of this network, but it is expected that by the end of the legislature the number will triple to 21.
