Crime increased by 4.1% on the island of Ibiza during the first nine months of the year, with a notable growth in police interventions for drug trafficking, which soared by 40% over the same period last year.

This upward trend was particularly marked in the municipality of Sant Antoni, where drug-related crimes tripled, according to data published by the central government’s Ministry of the Interior.

The report, which includes criminal offenses recorded in towns with more than 20,000 inhabitants, places Sant Antoni as the Ibizan municipality with the highest increase in crime, with 15.2% more crimes than in 2024.

On the other hand, the municipality of Vila managed to slightly reduce its figures, registering a decrease of 1.9%.

Drug trafficking in the spotlight

Of the more than 10,600 criminal offenses registered in Ibiza up to September, 332 correspond to drug trafficking, compared to 237 the previous year.

This figure represents an increase of 40.1% and confirms the growing pressure of the State Security Forces and Corps on the networks linked to the sale and distribution of narcotic substances.

The epicenter of this phenomenon is located in Sant Antoni. In this tourist municipality, the number of drug trafficking cases rose from 46 to 121 in a single year, an increase of 163%.

Significant increases in this type of crime were also detected in Sant Josep (+46.7%) and Santa Eulària (+92.9%).

Injuries, theft and online scams also on the rise

In addition to drug trafficking, the crime balance shows an upturn in serious and less serious crimes of injury and tumultuous quarrels, which grew by 6.6% in the island as a whole.

These types of infractions doubled in Sant Antoni, where they went from 34 to 71 cases, while in Ibiza town they remained stable.

Another area showing a growing trend is cybercrime. Computer scams increased by 8.8% on the island, with a total of 1,231 complaints registered, representing more than 11% of total island crime.

In Santa Eulària (+22.9%) and Sant Antoni (+28.7%) this type of crime grew above average.

Robberies with violence and intimidation also rose by 10.6%, while thefts increased by 2.6% in the island as a whole, with more than 2,800 cases recorded.

Decrease in sex crimes and robberies with force

In contrast, there was a significant drop in several indicators. Crimes against sexual freedom fell by 17.7% across the island, with the sharpest declines in Sant Antoni (-35%) and Sant Josep (-37.9%).

There was also a decrease in burglaries in homes and establishments, with a reduction of 17.5% at the island level and up to 65% less in Santa Eulària.

Other crimes with a downward trend were vehicle thefts (-18.9%) and kidnappings, of which none were recorded in 2025.

Vila, the only municipality with a decrease

Of the four municipalities analyzed (Sant Joan is not included in the statistics as it does not reach the threshold of 20,000 inhabitants), only Ibiza town managed to contain crime, with a slight decrease of 1.9%.

The total number of offenses decreased from 3,549 in 2024 to 3,483 in 2025. During this period, burglary (-28.6 %), vehicle theft (-20.4 %) and sexual assault (-33.3 %) decreased, while theft and cybercrime increased.

In contrast, Santa Eulària (+3.3%) and Sant Josep (+4.7%) experienced moderate increases, and Sant Antoni was consolidated as the municipality with the most worrying upturn, largely driven by the increase in drug trafficking.

No homicides

According to data collected by the Ministry of the Interior from reports by the Civil Guard, the National Police and the various local forces, there were no intentional homicides or completed murders in 2025 .

However, there were 7 «attempted» cases, i.e., attempted murders.

Ibiza is expecting another record year in terms of cruise ship arrivals. cruise ships to its port: 192 berths are scheduled for 2025 at the Botafoc dock, the same number as in 2023 and three more than in 2024.

This has been advanced from the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) to La Voz de Ibiza. In addition, for the moment, the ships will bring 516,690 tourists as scheduled. This figure is somewhat lower than last season, which closed with 580,830 passengers. Meanwhile, the restriction of a maximum of two cruise ships docked simultaneously is maintained, and the number of 3,000 cruise passengers waiting to disembark will not be exceeded. This planning carried out by the Consell de Ibiza and the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) is to avoid traffic jams, long waits or tourists choosing other transfer options rather than the maritime one.

They ask to remove the limitation

The Platform in Favor of Cruises has asked the Government and the companies not to renew the agreement signed in May 2022 for the limitation of arrivals. The spokeswoman for the platform, Alex Fraile, has recalled that the objective with which it was signed was to flatten the peaks, to avoid that some days there were three or four and others there were none. Fraile has stated that those who are against cruise tourism «manipulate the figures to deceive». In this sense, he assures that figures are taken from the years in which the traffic fell due to the pandemic, when the reality is that it is 15% below the pre-pandemic figures. Fraile has wondered why the focus is put on a tourism sector «so minority» and also has decreased and has done so by an agreement signed with the Government to self-regulate on a voluntary basis.

The meeting between the Ibiza Town Hall and Paradores in Madrid, within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur), has not served to clear up the main question that hovers over the Parador of IbizaWhen will it open? As La Voz de Ibiza advanced, new setbacks have postponed its inauguration.

The mayor of Vila, Rafael Triguero, held a meeting this Thursday with the cabinet of the director of Paradores to define the final steps. There it has been established that the Parador of Ibiza will be the number 99 of the network. The only thing that, at this point, seems to be confirmed is that it will not be ready for the start of the 2025 season. This has to do with inconveniences in the connectivity to the water supply network by the public entity Turespaña, which operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Government of Spain. Discarded the date of Easter, the authorities expect that it will be operative between «May and June», according to confirmed sources of the Consistory. Although the reality is that there is no definite date for the transfer or for the opening, after more than 16 years of works.

The characteristics of Parador Ibiza

It will have 66 rooms and «will generate quality employment, in addition to contributing to the economic revitalization of the area, as it will be a hotel that will be open all year round,» the central government explained. «This Parador will be one of the most emblematic of the network of Paradores de Turismo, with incomparable architectural and technical characteristics», highlighted the Secretary of State for Tourism, emphasizing the investment made by the Spanish Government to «preserve the historical heritage of the jewel that is Ibiza».

Last phase

In April last year, the central government, through the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, reported that «the Parador de Ibiza faces the last phase of the works for its next opening«. At that time, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosana Morillo, visited the works of the Parador de Ibiza, which will become the first establishment of the network of Paradores de Turismo in the Balearic Islands. This forecast established that, once the works were finished, the project would be transferred to Paradores de Turismo, the organization responsible for conditioning, managing and commercializing the hotels of the Paradores network. However, according to La Voz de Ibiza, this administrative step has not yet materialized.

Carl Cox will make his stellar return to Ibiza.

He began his career as a DJ in the early 1980s, quickly becoming known for his ability to mix records with three decks, an uncommon technique at the time. His love of disco, soul and funk led him to explore emerging electronic sounds, culminating in his transition to house and techno at the end of the decade. With the arrival of the «Summer of Love» in 1988, Carl Cox became a key figure in the UK acid house movement, earning the nickname «The Three Deck Wizard».

Your connection to Ibiza

However, an essential chapter of his career is intimately linked to the island of Ibiza, a place where Carl Cox has not only left his mark, but has also helped define its musical culture. Carl Cox’s relationship with Ibiza began in the early 90s, when the island was already known as an epicenter for electronic music lovers.

It was in Ibiza where Cox found a platform to bring his sound to a global audience, performing at iconic clubs such as Amnesia, Pacha and Privilege. However, it was at Space Ibiza where he achieved legendary status. For 15 years, every Tuesday in summer, Space was transformed into a temple of techno under Cox’s direction. His ability to mix genres and his charisma on stage attracted thousands of attendees from all over the world, consolidating his place as one of the pillars of Ibiza’s club culture.

The closure of Space Ibiza in 2016 marked the end of an era for Carl Cox and the island. During those 15 years, he was instrumental in establishing Space as one of the biggest clubs in the world. However, far from saying goodbye, the DJ continued to explore new opportunities here, hosting events at other iconic venues such as DC-10 and Ushuaïa.

A music entrepreneur

Carl Cox is not only a DJ, but also an innovator and entrepreneur. In the last decades, he has created three record labels of his own. The first, called Intec Records created in 1999, scored a string of underground hits and spent eight years at the forefront of electronic music. In 2010 he decided to relaunch it as Intec Digital.
