]]>In the Pitiusas islands, the strike has also caused the cancellation of 150 hospital consultations, 54 radiological tests and 29 diagnostic tests.
Thursday included a rally in front of the Can Misses hospital at 11:30 am, where the union leader in the Pitiusas, Carlos Rodríguez, read a manifesto rejecting the current draft of the Framework Statute, considering that «it does not recognize the uniqueness of medical practice or limit marathon working hours».
The protest coincided with the meeting held by the Minister of Health, Mónica García, with the Strike Committee in Madrid. It was also attended by the president of CESM, Miguel Lázaro, who reiterated the will to continue the strike if no real progress is made.
The doctors denounce that the new Statute does not guarantee rest, nor does it adequately regulate forced mobility or working hours. In the words of the committee itself, the Ministry has shown a «total lack of willingness to negotiate«, although it has agreed to create technical tables by professional categories.
Carlos Rodríguez, in statements collected during the protest in Ibiza, stressed that «the doctors of the Pitiusas cannot assume more cuts or overload care», and criticized that the draft «completely ignores the needs of the smaller islands».
Simebal estimates that the follow up of the strike in Ibiza has been similar to the rest of the archipelago, standing at around 85%. In addition, it stresses that the minimum services in emergency and critical areas have been respected, but regrets that the suspension of ordinary activity is «seriously affecting patients».

]]>In the case of hospitals, the spokesman for Simebal in the Pitiusas, Carlos Rodríguez, explained that the participation of staff who were not subject to minimum services reached up to 85% at the Can Misses Hospital, where doctors joined the strike in protest against the proposed new Framework Statute drawn up by the Ministry of Health. To contextualize the day, La Voz de Ibiza already reported the general impact of the strike in the Balearic Islands, with dozens of operations and thousands of appointments cancelled on its first day.
In primary care, the follow-up was lower due to the high pressure associated with cases of influenza, according to Rodriguez in statements to Radio Ibiza. Despite this, the union remarked that in the health centers of Ibiza and Formentera a significant support was reached, between 45 and 50%, which they consider «an indicator of the accumulated discomfort in the collective». The pressure due to busy schedules and the extensive minimum services would be behind this difference with respect to the hospital environment, they stressed.
Another element highlighted by Simebal was the participation of medical interns (MIR), whose involvement was described as «especially significant». For the union, their presence demonstrates that the demands regarding working conditions, professional careers and stability affect the entire healthcare system and not only physicians with a consolidated position. This generational involvement is one of the factors that, according to the union, supports the idea of a «long-running conflict» if the Health Department does not modify its proposal.
Throughout the day, Simebal reiterated its willingness to dialogue, although conditioned to the Ministry showing «a real intention to urgently address the structural problems affecting the medical profession and the quality of care». The organization said that it will continue to update the monitoring data on the islands and will inform Madrid of the specific situation of the Pitiusas.

]]>SIMEBAL stresses that this is the first national medical strike directed against a minister who is also a doctor, in reference to Monica Garcia, head of the Ministry of Health. For the group, the «chronic lack of specialists» has become «the Achilles heel of the public system», aggravated by the overload of care and structural precariousness.
Among their demands, the unions are calling for a specific professional statute that will allow them to address their real needs:effective measures for family reconciliation, occupational health protection and compliance with current regulations, withdrawal of the incompatibility regime, guaranteed breaks recognized as time worked,a minimum working week of 36 hours, staff resizing and two days off after on-callduty.
Although the strike will affect healthcare, the doctors apologize to patients and maintain that the protest «seeks to improve the quality of care and reduce waiting lists,» something that, they remind us, depends on sufficient funding, realistic planning and responsible management.
The union makes it clear that this mobilization is not directed against the Balearic Minister of Health, Manuela García, but against the central government and, especially, against the Ministry of Health. The final message summarized by the conveners is forceful: «Without doctors there is no public health».

]]>These mobilizations are part of the statewide day of struggle in which the various unions of the different autonomous communities will participate, as explained by the trade union organization in a statement.
In the Balearic Islands, the main call will be made at the Son Espases Hospital but there are also protests organized in front of other health centers and hospitals in Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza.
During the rally, a manifesto will be read and delivered, setting out the main demands of the medical profession, which«unanimously demands protection and decent working conditions for doctors».
These demands include the drafting of a Statute for doctors, a new professional reclassification in accordance with their training and with remuneration links, and improvements in the retirement system and protection against incompatibilities.
They have also demanded a regulation of the working day on an equal footing with the rest of the workers and that everything that exceeds this day should be considered as paid overtime. At the same time, they ask for measures to protect the occupational health of doctors and to guarantee the reconciliation of work and personal life.
«All the national medical unions consider that the Draft Bill of the New Framework Statute violates the rights of physicians, discriminates against them and jeopardizes the recruitment and loyalty of doctors in Spain,» they said.
Similarly, Simebal has assured that this situation «will have a direct impact on the deterioration of the public healthcare system», something which they have indicated would affect the country’s 48 million citizens.

On the other hand, Simebal has informed that on February 20 a new assembly will be held as part of the claims plan. It will be held at Can Misses, Ibiza, at 8:30 am in the hospital’s assembly hall.
It will be the sixth informative assembly that Simebal carries out in relation to the subject. The fifth one has been this morning at the Manacor Hospital.
