Deportivo de La Coruña made official on Friday one of the most talked-about moves of the winter transfer window with the signing of Adrià Altimira, a 24-year-old right-back with Primera División experience who arrives on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Villarreal.

The operation has put several First and Second Division clubs on alert, who had also been interested in the player, but finally the former Leganés player has committed to the Galician team until 2028. Altimira is already in Abegondo and could have his first minutes this week, in this Sunday’s match against Cádiz (21:00).

A priority signing to reinforce the side

The arrival of Adrià Altimira responds to a clear need of Deportivo. The team was looking to reinforce the right-back position and his incorporation became one of the priorities of the winter market. Altimira meets the profile of a player with experience in the elite and with projection, and his arrival is interpreted as a boost to the Coruña project, which aspires to fight for promotion to the First Division.

Although the transfer window does not officially open until January 2, the A Coruña club has already made two signings: Altimira and Álvaro Fernández, who has already met his new teammates this week.

A player with a career at the elite level

Adrià Altimira arrives at Deportivo after terminating his contract with Villarreal, the club he has been with for the last three seasons. His time with the Castellón-based club began with Villarreal B, where he was a key player in the silver category, before being given opportunities with the first team.

During the 2023-2024, 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons, Altimira made a total of 22 appearances for the first team, although his presence was conditioned by the strong competition in the position. Marcelino García Toral, then coach of Villarreal, opted to keep him in the squad despite the fact that he was competing for the full-back position against players such as Santiago Mouriño and Pau Navarro. This season, Altimira has only played three cup games and one league game for the yellow team.

Prior to his arrival at Villarreal for the 2022-2023 season, Altimira had left Andorra and spent a loan spell at Leganés, where he also showed his ability and versatility in the defensive profile.

The interest of other teams and the competition for his signing

Before his arrival at Riazor, Adrià Altimira had attracted the interest of several clubs in both the First and Second Division, which gives an idea of his value in the market and the potential that many saw in him. In the end, Deportivo won the battle and secured his signature for the remainder of the season and beyond.

The fact that teams in higher categories set their eyes on a 24-year-old right back reflects the valuation of Altimira in Spanish soccer. His youth combined with experience in a demanding structure such as Villarreal’s makes him an interesting asset for any project.

First steps in A Coruña and possible debut

Adrià Altimira has already been made available to coach Antonio Hidalgo and is expected to have his first minutes in the Deportivo shirt this Sunday, in the match against Cadiz, corresponding to the league matchday. The fact that he is already available shows the intention of the coaching staff to integrate him quickly and take advantage of his versatility and his quick adaptation to the competitive rhythm.

Deportivo is confident that his contribution will not only strengthen the right-back position, but also bring dynamism to the team and help them in their fight for the top positions in the standings.

Villarreal’s official statement

«Adrià Altimira leaves Villarreal CF. The Catalan defender and the yellow club separate their paths after three seasons linked to the Submarine, where he defended the interests of the yellow subsidiary in the Second Division and managed to be part of the first team.

Altimira says goodbye after playing a total of 22 official games with Villarreal CF’s first team between the 2023/24 and 2025/26 seasons. Last season he played on loan at CD Leganés, which played in Primera División.

The club thanks him for his dedication and professionalism during his time as a groguet and wishes him luck in his new professional adventure».

Ruben Neves wants to return to the elite: interest from United, Newcastle… and could end up at Real Madrid https://lavozdeibiza.com/current-news/ruben-neves-wants-to-return-to-the-elite-interest-from-united-newcastle-and-could-end-up-at-real-madrid/ Tue, 23 Dec 2025 11:46:46 +0000 https://lavozdeibiza.com/sin-categorizar/ruben-neves-wants-to-return-to-the-elite-interest-from-united-newcastle-and-could-end-up-at-real-madrid/ The Portuguese midfielder, in conflict with Al Hilal and under contract in June, is pushing for a return to Europe, with Premier League clubs and Real Madrid following his situation closely.

]]>
The contractual situation of Ruben Neves, the Portuguese midfielder currently at Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, has sparked intense interest from several top European clubs in a possible return to Western soccer. According to several media reports, the midfielder has rejected his current club’s renewal offer and his contract expires at the end of the season, which opens the door to a major move in the next transfer window.

The performance and experience of Neves, 26 years old and with experience in competitive leagues such as the English Premier League, make him a target for the most demanding teams. The possibility of him leaving Saudi Arabia in January or in the summer has put clubs like Manchester United and Newcastle United on alert, while in Spain Real Madrid would be attentive to his contractual situation for a possible free transfer.

Premier on alert for Neves

A return to English soccer appears to be one of the most talked-about options for Neves, who previously shone in the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers before moving to Saudi Arabia in 2023. As reported by The Times, the player would be «ready to return to the Premier League as early as the winter transfer window» and his desire to leave Al Hilal has generated moves to several clubs in England.

Manchester United, which is looking to strengthen its midfield to compete in the Premier League and in European competitions, is watching the Portuguese’s situation with interest. The same goes for Newcastle United, who are looking to consolidate their position among the clubs fighting for the top places in the table. Neves’ combination of experience, technical quality and leadership in midfield make him an attractive option for both teams.

Al Hilal’s stance, mindful of the player’s contract expiration, could facilitate the midfielder’s exit, although the Saudis are looking to recoup at least part of the initial outlay. Neves’ club have priced his winter exit at around £18 million, a figure which, given the contractual context, may seem high but represents an attempt to recoup some of the £47 million paid to Wolverhampton for his transfer.

Real Madrid, on the lookout for an open opportunity

While in England there is growing interest in Neves, in Spain Real Madrid is closely following the development of the player’s contractual situation. Although the winter transfer window is not a priority in the club’s planning, the movements for next summer and the possible departures in the midfield have activated the radar in the capital.

From Arabia, former Al Hilal player Al Jaber claimed on MBC channel, «I’m afraid Neves will move from Al Hilal to Real Madrid for free after his contract with the team expires at the end of this season.» His statement puts on the table the possibility that Real Madrid, always on the lookout for free transfer opportunities, could snap up a player with proven experience. According to this source, «There are English Premier League clubs who want to sign Neves… There’s Real Madrid, and I’m sure there are other clubs who want Neves.»

Neves’ free arrival would fit in with the strategy that Madrid has applied in recent markets, incorporating players such as David Alaba, Antonio Rüdiger or Trent Alexander-Arnold at no transfer cost, although this depends on the club’s planning and sporting priorities to reinforce the midfield.

Contract in atonement and advance sale

Neves’ stance on his renewal has strained his relationship with Al Hilal, who see how they could lose the player without significant financial compensation at the end of his contract. Faced with this situation, and to avoid a total loss, the Saudi club would be willing to accept an offer between 15 and 20 million euros in the winter market. This price, lower than the initial expectation, is explained by the proximity of the end of the contract and the player’s clear intention to move.

For a European club, this situation can become an opportunity: to obtain a midfielder with international experience and leadership skills at a relatively low cost.

Profile of a midfielder with an impact in Europe

Neves has established himself as a solid and complete midfielder. His ability to direct play, sustain possession and provide stability in midfield has made him a standout in the English league and beyond. After a spell at Wolverhampton, where he made a name for himself in the Premiership, his move to Al Hilal represented a lucrative period away from the European spotlight.

However, a return to the old continent would not only be a matter of sporting appeal, but also of revitalizing a career still in its prime. At 29 in 2026, Neves would be at an optimal age to bring experience and immediate performance to a team that aspires to compete at the highest level.

Neves’ future up in the air

With the season underway and his contract nearing its end, the next few weeks will be key to elucidate the immediate future of Ruben Neves. The options of a January exit or waiting until the summer, when he will be released, offer different strategies for interested clubs.

While Manchester United and Newcastle United are keeping a close eye on his situation, the possible interest of Real Madrid adds an extra component of expectation around the Portuguese player. A free arrival at the club would be a coup in the summer market, while a winter transfer to the Premier League could strengthen one of the teams aspiring to European places for the second half of the season.

An unexpected draw, no derbies or derbies: this is how the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey 2025-26 will be decided https://lavozdeibiza.com/current-news/an-unexpected-draw-no-derbies-or-derbies-this-is-how-the-round-of-16-of-the-copa-del-rey-2025-26-will-be-decided/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 13:40:46 +0000 https://lavozdeibiza.com/sin-categorizar/an-unexpected-draw-no-derbies-or-derbies-this-is-how-the-round-of-16-of-the-copa-del-rey-2025-26-will-be-decided/ Copa del Rey round of 16 draw will have unprecedented conditions; Barça, Real Madrid, Atlético and Athletic will have to face lower-ranked opponents and there will be no Clásico

La entrada An unexpected draw, no derbies or derbies: this is how the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey 2025-26 will be decided se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.

]]>
The Copa del Rey 2025-26 enters a crucial phase with a mold-breaking round of 16 draw. The draw, scheduled for Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, will bring pairings with special conditions, preventing a repeat of the great duels between elite teams in this round. The reason: the presence of a draw made up solely of the four teams playing in the Spanish Super Cup.

This unprecedented format, which maintains a criterion of conditional pairings in this round, means that Clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético and Athletic will necessarily face rivals from lower categories, in this case from LaLiga Hypermotion and the Second Division. Thus, there will be no possibility of a Clasico or regional derbies in this round of 16.

A conditional draw that makes a difference

The special feature of the draw is that it will not be «pure». The new format continues to favor the teams that participate in the Super Cup, placing them in a separate draw (the so-called Copa A) to face rivals that are theoretically more affordable. This is especially the case because, once the round of 32 had been held, there were no teams from the First and Second Federation alive that had not already been eliminated.

The reason for the draw to be held so late, on January 7, is because the last match of the round of 32 between Granada and Rayo Vallecano will not be played until January 6, 2026, as Rayo played their last game in the Conference League group stage on Thursday.

This is how the draw is drawn

The draw for the round of 16 will divide the teams into three pots:

  • Copa A (Supercopa): Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético and Athletic.

  • B Cup (First Division): Elche, Real Sociedad, Valencia, Betis, Osasuna and Alavés.

  • C Cup (Second Division): Deportivo, Cultural Leonesa, Racing, Burgos and Albacete.

In addition, the result of Granada or Rayo Vallecano is pending, which will complete the quota of teams participating in this phase. In total, the round of 16 will bring together the four Supercopa clubs, five teams from the First Division and five from the Second Division, with the team that advances from the pending match still to be decided.

Dates and schedule of the Copa del Rey

The competition follows an intensive schedule in the first half of 2026:

  • Round of 16: January 13, 14 and 15.

  • Quarterfinals: February 4.

  • First leg of the semifinals: February 11.

  • Semifinal second leg: March 4.

  • Final: To be confirmed.

The proximity of the round of 16 draw to the Spanish Super Cup, to be held in Saudi Arabia the week before with the final on Sunday, January 11, adds pressure to the schedule of the teams involved.

Round of 16 conditions: locations and VAR

Video Refereeing (VAR) will be introduced in this round, a tool that had not been used in previous phases of this format. In addition, the home-and-away regulations establish that lower division clubs will be the home team when they play against higher division opponents. In the crossings between teams of the same category, the team whose ball is drawn first in the draw will be the home team.

Unusual format for the round of 16: no derbies or derbies

The peculiarity of the draw lies in the restriction that prevents the top clubs from facing each other in the round of 16, something that in traditional editions could have led to direct clashes between Barcelona and Real Madrid, or between Atlético and Athletic. The existence of a closed draw with the Super Cup teams eliminates that possibility and facilitates clashes that, on paper, seem more unbalanced, with the top teams facing lower-ranked opponents.

The rationale behind this decision is to maintain competitive interest and avoid premature elimination of strong teams in the early rounds, while at the same time giving a presence to lower division clubs, who can benefit from home field advantage.

Expectations and possible pairings

Although the opponent that will emerge from the match between Granada and Rayo Vallecano has yet to be determined, the composition of the draws suggests a number of interesting scenarios for the round of 16. For example, the big names in the Super Cup could face clubs with more modest aspirations, but capable of springing a surprise in one-off ties.

Teams such as Real Sociedad, Valencia or Betis in the First Division (and others such as Deportivo or Cultural Leonesa from the Second Division) have the opportunity to measure their strength against the giants of Spanish soccer, in play-offs that will be played even before many clubs resume competition after the Super Cup.

Pedri in the air ahead of Villarreal: Flick’s special plan to recover key player https://lavozdeibiza.com/current-news/pedri-in-the-air-ahead-of-villarreal-flicks-special-plan-to-recover-key-player/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 12:02:18 +0000 https://lavozdeibiza.com/sin-categorizar/pedri-in-the-air-ahead-of-villarreal-flicks-special-plan-to-recover-key-player/ The Barça midfielder is following a specific workout to be able to be at La Cerámica this Sunday. The club monitors his sensations after an express return from injury.

La entrada Pedri in the air ahead of Villarreal: Flick’s special plan to recover key player se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.

]]>
Pedri remains under «total precaution» at Hansi Flick’s Barcelona as the team finalizes its preparations for the league match against Villarreal this Sunday. The young midfielder, who had started to work normally, has followed a specific plan to be available at La Cerámica, which reflects the importance for the azulgrana team to count on him in the final stretch before the Christmas break.

A rushed return with little rest

The initial intention of the coaching staff was for Pedri to rest this week after the match against Osasuna, but the midfielder himself had to take the field in the Guadalajara match -with barely 15 minutes to go- when the game was still tied. It was a short time, but «very necessary as it was in this space of time that Barça scored the two winning goals».

Pedri’s participation in that decisive stretch underlines that he is considered indispensable by Flick: «Pedri is indispensable«, according to the unofficial assessment of the club’s environment, and he has been called upon whenever possible because the team has a different profile when he is on the pitch.

Individual plan and absence in training

The team’s return to training this Friday confirmed that Pedri is not yet at the level of his teammates in terms of physical load. Although the team was scheduled to meet at 9:30 am at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, the player showed up at 10:30 am to continue with his individual plan. Everything indicates that his participation against Villarreal will depend on the feelings of the player himself and the doctors, rather than a tactical decision.

So far, the club has avoided raising any alarm bells, limiting itself to recalling that it will be up to the medical staff and Pedri himself to determine his availability for the clash against the yellow submarine.

A complicated return to competition

Pedri’s recovery process has not been ideal. After suffering an injury at the Santiago Bernabeu, the player from Tegueste has not had a progressive return but rather an express one, forced by the needs of Barça’s calendar, both in the league and in European competitions.

The team’s situation, with the obligation to close the gap on Real Madrid in La Liga and with the Champions League campaign somewhat compromised after draws and defeats, has precipitated the incorporation of Pedri, who played 30 minutes against Alavés and returned directly to the starting eleven against Atlético de Madrid in a key duel.

He was barely rested in the match against Betis and also played 90 minutes in the Copa del Rey match against Eintracht and 89 minutes against Osasuna, which shows the amount of minutes he has played in a slow return.

Pedri’s tactical value for Barça

For Barcelona, losing Pedri would be more than a setback: he is considered the driving force behind the team’s creativity and rhythm. The club has been extremely careful with his recovery for this reason, aware that his presence significantly raises the level of play.

Pedri is not only fundamental for Barça at this stage of the season: his presence is also key for the Spanish national team. The midfielder is considered an essential player for important matches such as the Finalissima on March 27 and, later on, the World Cup in the United States, where Spain is aiming for its second star.

A saving move in the Cup

Although the priority was his rest, Pedri took the field in Guadalajara because the team needed him. In the unofficial words of the technical environment, when the team required fluidity and control of the game, there was no other alternative of equal level. His participation in that phase of the match was, in short, a «lifesaver» to ensure the team’s place in the Copa del Rey.

Today’s Barça is Pedri and ten more

This expression, used by some analysts and fans, sums up the perception of the midfielder’s importance: «Today’s Barça is Pedri and ten more». The idea is that, although the team has other talents such as Lamine Yamal or a large roster of forwards, there is no clear substitute in the squad for the playmaking and play-directing profile that Pedri provides.

This assessment is shared by both rivals and colleagues, who tend to consider the Tenerife native as one of the best midfielders in the world in his role, especially for his vision, creativity and ability to link lines with criteria.

Looking ahead to the immediate future

If Pedri finally arrives in time to face Villarreal, it would be great news for Barça before the Christmas break. After this match, the team will rest until January 3, when they will return to La Liga competition against Espanyol in Cornellà, and shortly after that they will have to think about the Spanish Super Cup, which will be played in Saudi Arabia from January 7, with a potential cross in the final against Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid.

Pedri’s presence in this tournament will be decisive for the Catalan team’s aspirations, which aims to retain the title and continue competing at the highest level in all competitions.

Will Pedri arrive?

Barça treats Pedri «with great care». The club knows it cannot afford to lose such a key player and is therefore dosing his workload and adapting his recovery to the needs of the calendar.

Although his participation in the match against Villarreal is not assured, everything indicates that the team is confident that he will be available, since his quality and presence on the field are considered basic for both Barcelona’s style of play and for the most important challenges of the season.

While awaiting official confirmation, Pedri’s prominence continues to be one of the focal points of Barcelona’s attention, and the outcome of his recovery will largely determine the team’s aspirations in this decisive stretch of the season.

He is the fourth soccer player to be murdered in the country in the last year.

Ecuadorian soccer is in mourning after confirming the murder of international Mario Pineida, player of Barcelona Sporting Club (Barcelona SC) of Guayaquil, one of the most emblematic clubs in the country. The striker was the victim of an armed attack in the north of Guayaquil, one of the areas most affected by violence in Ecuador, as reported by the Ministry of the Interior and confirmed by the club itself in an official statement.

An attack that mourns Ecuadorian soccer

The news of Pineida’s death has caused deep consternation in the sports world and among the fans. In a statement, Barcelona SC informed, with deep regret, that it has been officially notified of the death of our player Mario Pineida, which occurred after an attack against him.

The club mourned the loss and expressed its sorrow at what had happened, stating that the news has «deeply shocked» them and that it «mourns them as a Barcelonista family». They also announced that in the coming days they will give details of the events to be held in his memory and asked members, fans and the public to «raise a prayer for the repose of his soul and for strength for his entire family at this time of intense grief».

The site of the attack and the investigation

The fateful event occurred outside a commercial establishment in Samanes 4, located in the north of Guayaquil. The police went to the place to start the corresponding investigations and clarify the circumstances of the attack. Authorities are still analyzing what happened, in a context of increasing armed violence affecting several regions of the country.

Mario Pineida’s trajectory

Mario Pineida, 33, had an established career both locally and internationally. Born in Santo Domingo de Los Tsáchilas, Ecuador, he was a soccer player who represented his country from youth levels to the senior national team.

His professional career began at Independiente del Valle, where he played between 2010 and 2015 as a right or left back, showing versatility and ability in both defense and offensive support. In 2016, Pineida joined Barcelona SC, a club with which he became one of its most outstanding figures.

In 2022 he made the leap to the Brazilian league with Fluminense, an international experience that enriched his career. In 2024 he returned to Ecuador to play with El Nacional, Quito, before returning to Barcelona SC, where he trained these days in preparation for the last game of the year, scheduled for next Sunday against Independiente del Valle.

In addition to his club career, Pineida was also an international with the Ecuadorian national team, from U-15 to senior level, establishing himself as one of the most consistent defenders in Ecuadorian soccer in the last decade.

Fourth deadly attack on soccer players in Ecuador

Pineida’s death adds to a disturbing series of violence affecting sports in Ecuador. So far this year, there have been at least four armed attacks against professional club soccer players in the country.

One of the most shocking cases occurred on September 19, when midfielder Jonathan «Speedy» Gonzalez, of the 22 de Julio club, which plays in Ecuador’s Second Division, was murdered. That attack took place in the province of Esmeraldas, an area bordering Colombia and known for criminal gang activity.

This type of violence is part of a wider situation of insecurity in the country, which since 2024 has been living under what President Daniel Noboa has described as an «internal armed conflict». This statement was made in order to intensify the fight against the criminal gangs to which the government attributes much of the escalation of violence that Ecuador has experienced in recent years.

A context of violence that gives no respite

Violence in Ecuador has especially spiked in 2025, with an average of one murder per hour in the Andean country, according to official data and security analysis. This escalation has put Ecuador in the spotlight in the region as one of the countries with the greatest challenges in terms of citizen security.

The murder of Pineida, an elite player and figure of Ecuadorian soccer, has generated special commotion because it transcends the sporting sphere. His death shows that even well-known public figures with international projection are not exempt from the violence that plagues the country.

Reactions and repercussions in soccer

Messages of dismay, respect and solidarity to Pineida’s family and Barcelona SC have begun to arrive from the Ecuadorian soccer world and international clubs. Many fans and colleagues of the sport have shared their sorrow through social networks, highlighting both the sporting quality and the human character of the player.

In official and unofficial statements, the news has been received with stupefaction and sadness, underlining that events like this not only affect the club and the player’s family, but the entire soccer community in Ecuador and beyond.

The goalless draw between Rayo Vallecano and Real Betis at the Vallecas Stadium not only left the La Liga standings at stake, but also an episode that has brought back to the table the persistence of homophobic insults in Spanish stadiums. After the match, Aitor Ruibal, a Betis player, was the target of a shout from the stands that literally asked him to «paint your nails», a comment that the player himself interpreted as a homophobic insult because of his expression and in light of past events.

Aitor Ruibal’s response

When Ruibal began to talk to La Liga’s microphones after the end of the match, the shout of «paint your nails» was clearly heard from an empty stadium. After a second’s pause, the player was not deterred and responded frankly: «ale, homophobe». The firmness of Ruibal’s retort encapsulated the discomfort and indignation he feels at such messages.

The player went on to explain that this situation is not isolated to him. «It happens to me in every game,» he admitted, regretting that this type of insult is part of his recurring experience on the pitch. Faced with the journalist who was attending to him, who had said he had not heard the shout, Ruibal tried to play down the drama: «Nothing happens, there is no need to make a fuss,» he said, although his comment and his tone reflected the discomfort that these situations generate in him.

A persistent problem in soccer

What happened in Vallecas is neither isolated nor new for Ruibal. The episode is part of what various sectors have described as a worrying tendency of certain sectors of the fan base to mock or attack players whose expression of masculinity does not fit a traditional and rigid stereotype.

Ruibal’s trajectory includes previous moments in which his way of showing himself has been the object of homophobic criticism. It is no coincidence that in social networks and public sphere comments he has been talked about for details such as his painted nails or his unprejudiced attitude.

The background with Borja Iglesias

A paradigmatic example of how certain sectors of fans react to these expressions is what happened in 2023 with Borja Iglesias, then Ruibal’s teammate at Betis and now at Celta. On that occasion, the two players attended the wedding of a teammate, Camarasa, and generated controversy on social networks. The reason for some tasteless comments was that both Ruibal and Iglesias were carrying handbags.

Faced with the wave of criticism and attacks, Ruibal decided at that moment to raise his voice. He accused what he defined as a «noisy minority» of trying to ridicule him and Iglesias. «We must maintain respect for any person, regardless of their sexual orientation or any other kind,» he said on that occasion, adding, «We must condemn homophobia, which obviously still exists to a greater or lesser extent.»

Iglesias’ situation, meanwhile, was equally significant. When he appeared at a Betis training session with his nails painted, he received messages such as: «No faggots in my team, thanks», «what a disgrace» or «termination of contract and that he goes to Sevilla». These types of insults reflect the persistence of homophobic sectors among fans who do not seem to accept expressive diversity within the sport.

At first glance, the action did not provoke significant protests, but the referee, alerted by the VAR, decided to review the play. In the end, he awarded a penalty.

The decision sparked strong displeasure at Betis and among their fans, who questioned whether the initial contact had been with the leg and not with the hand.

Referee back-up and the VAR room

The referee in charge of the play, after accessing the VAR monitor, clearly explained his criteria: «That is punishable because Bartra, from the start, is throwing his arm up. He is occupying a space from the first moment. Even if there’s a rebound on his leg, it’s still punishable and it’s a penalty, right?

The key argument: Bartra had his arm raised from the first instant and in an unnatural position, which, according to the interpretation of the rules, unnecessarily extends his body volume and can interfere with an opponent’s shot. For this reason, and despite the rebound, the handball was considered voluntary.

For the referee and those in charge of the VAR, the decision was correct, in accordance with Rule 12, which regulates hands inside the area.

CTA’s ruling: officially supported penalty

After analyzing the play in its «Tiempo de revisión» program, the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) confirmed the sanction: Bartra’s hand corresponds to a penalty. According to the body, «the arm is in an unnatural position and occupies a space that does not correspond to him to make his body bigger».

The fact that the ball previously bounced off his leg does not exempt him from sanction, as the player faced the action with his arm in a potentially punishable position from the outset. The CTA stressed that this criterion must be applied uniformly to avoid future confusion and ensure consistency in refereeing decisions.

Controversy outside the technical area

For many in the Betis entourage, including their coach Manuel Pellegrini, the penalty was unfair. Pellegrini said that «I don’t think it was a penalty. It hit Bartra before… they invented a penalty to stretch the score».

The fans and several analysts have expressed their bewilderment and discontent: for them, the play did not merit a review, much less a penalty, and they denounce an arbitrary interpretation that conditioned the result.

What are the implications of this decision for the future?

The confirmation of the penalty by the CTA brings to the table the importance of body positioning on handball inside the area. The interpretation of a raised arm, even if the ball bounces off another part of the body first, may be punishable, which increases the degree of demand on defenders in close shooting situations.

This could increase the risks of controversial penalties in the coming matchdays, especially in actions involving powerful shots or fortuitous rebounds. For many clubs and defenders, the message is clear: body position counts as much as intent.

Moreover, the controversy reignites the debate on the use of VAR and the subjectivity of the criteria: even officially endorsed decisions can provoke social discontent.

For Marc Bartra and for Betis, the play will mark a before and after: a penalty converted, a defeat marked, and a controversy that seems to have no end.

Round of 16 Draw Rules

The configuration of the groups prioritizes the crossings between clubs of different categories, always looking for the modest ones to receive at home the giants of national soccer. The pairings are regulated in such a way that:

  • The four Supercopa teams will be assigned to Atlético Baleares, Ourense and three Primera RFEF teams.

  • The two remaining Primera RFEF teams will face Primera División opponents.

  • The clubs of the Second Division will face the other teams of the First Division.

  • There will only be two matches between clubs in the second division.

In addition, all matches in this round will be single-legged and without VAR, a technology that will only be incorporated from the round of 16 onwards.

The rules also ensure that matches are played at the stadium of the lower-ranked team, thus ensuring that fans of the lower-ranked clubs can experience the thrill of facing historic rivals at home.

Dates of the meetings: December 16, 17 and 18

Once the draw has been defined, the 16 matches will be played on December 16, 17 and 18. The organization maintains the usual scheme: maximum proximity to the local public, emotion concentrated in three days and direct access to the round of 16 for the winners.

The draw can be followed live on Teledeporte, Movistar Plus and the official RFEF channels, with transmission scheduled from 13:00 (Spanish peninsular time).

Expectations for the crossroads and possible surprises

The sporting morbidity will be focused on seeing which rivals the four giants of Spanish soccer will be paired with. Clubs like Atletico Baleares, the only survivor of the RFEF Second Division, will be the focus of attention, as they will face Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico and Athletic. A duel that could mark a before and after in the history of the Balearic club.

The rest of the pairings are also promising, with historic clubs such as Deportivo, Murcia, Cultural Leonesa and Eldense looking to spring a surprise. At the same time, the teams from the second division will try to measure their strength against rivals from the first division in duels that could be more balanced than expected.

A draw with a pure soccer flavor

In a Copa del Rey that has recovered much of its essence in recent years, this draw represents the prelude to some vibrant playoffs. With no margin for error, without VAR and in the stadium of the most modest, the epic and excitement will be guaranteed in each crossing.

The Copa del Rey Draw not only defines the paths to the round of 16, but also strengthens the link between professional soccer and the lower categories. Everything is ready for the dreams to begin.

La entrada Gerard Moreno gets injured again: the «recurrent» ailment that keeps him out in his best moment se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.

]]>
Villarreal loses Gerard Moreno again at a key moment of the season. The Catalan striker, a fundamental piece of the yellow attack, will be out for the next few weeks after suffering a new injury that removes him from the team’s dynamic when he was in his best form.

The news was confirmed by Marcelino García Toral himself, who explained that Gerard will be out of action against Getafe at La Cerámica, although the club has not yet issued an official medical report detailing the exact extent of the injury.

The striker was already left out of the squad last Tuesday for the Cup tie against CD Antoniano, and before that, in the matches against La Real Sociedad and the last league matchday, he had been substituted in the 68th minute, a sign that suggested physical problems.

Marcelino speaks of a «recurring» injury

Although Villarreal has not officially confirmed the nature of the injury, everything points to a muscular ailment, following the trend of the player’s recent setbacks. The coach himself hinted at it with his statements, pointing out that it is a «recurringinjuryalthough not very serious«.

This recurrence is of particular concern to the club, as muscular injuries have conditioned a large part of the striker’s recent career. Just when the team was recovering its sensations and Gerard was putting in good performances, this new stoppage has once again altered the team’s plans.

Gerard Moreno, decisive before the braking point

The injury comes at one of the striker’s best moments of the season. Gerard Moreno had scored four goals in four consecutive matchdays, a streak that contributed directly to several Villarreal victories and brought the player back into the spotlight as a reference in the yellow attack.

The striker had recovered mobility, precision and leadership in the rival area, aspects that seemed renewed after an irregular period. For this reason, his absence is a major sporting blow for a team that depends in large part on his scoring ability and offensive vision.

Confirmed absence for LaLiga and the Champions League

In addition to the league clash against Getafe, Villarreal will also lose Gerard Moreno for one of the most important matches of the season: next Tuesday’s decisive Champions League match against Copenhagen, where the Castellón-based team will be trying to make the most of their last chances to advance out of the group.

The lack of an attacking reference like Gerard complicates the outlook for the team, which will have to look for alternative solutions in a context of maximum competitive demands.

A troubling pattern: effort, recovery and relapse

This new episode is part of a sequence of injuries that has marked the player’s recent evolution. Although the club has not specified the affected area, the description offered by Marcelino fits with previous muscular problems that have limited the striker’s continuity.

The doubt now focuses on the recovery time. Although the injury does not appear to be serious, the «recurrent» nature mentioned by the coach requires extreme caution to avoid a relapse that could have harsher repercussions in the decisive stretch of the course.

Villarreal forced to reinvent itself

The absence of Gerard Moreno opens a complex scenario for a Villarreal team that had found in him its main offensive weapon. The team will have to readjust its attack and look for alternatives to maintain a competitive level while the striker recovers.

While awaiting medical news, the club is confident that the striker can return as soon as possible, in a year in which his contribution has been as decisive as it has been fragile due to injuries.

Villarreal’s season is largely dependent on the physical condition of Gerard Moreno, and this new break, although expected due to his record, is once again setting off alarm bells in a team that needs its benchmark player more than ever.

The eagerly awaited Copa del Rey draw for the round of 32 will be held on Tuesday, December 9 at 13:00 (Spanish peninsular time) at the Ciudad del Fútbol headquarters in Las Rozas. With 32 qualified teams from five different categories, this round will mark the entry of the four clubs competing in the Spanish Super Cup: Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid and Athletic Club.

The event can be followed live on Movistar Plus, Teledeporte and the official channels of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which will offer full coverage of the event.

Qualified teams and format of the crossings

The draw will involve 32 teams, organized in conditional draws to ensure that the lower-ranked clubs will play as home teams against the First Division teams. This rule is maintained to preserve the competitive spirit and give prominence to the lesser teams.

Five categories will be represented:

  • First Division (17 teams): FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Athletic Club, Osasuna, Mallorca, Alavés, Getafe, Levante, Real Sociedad, Betis, Elche, Villarreal, Rayo Vallecano, Sevilla, Celta and Valencia.
  • Second Division (9 teams): Huesca, Cultural Leonesa, Racing de Santander, Sporting de Gijón, Eibar, Albacete, Deportivo de La Coruña, Burgos and Granada.
  • First RFEF (5 teams): Guadalajara, Eldense, Talavera de la Reina, Real Murcia and Ourense.
  • Second RFEF (1 team): Atlético Baleares.

The format is maintained as a single match, with the matches being played on the field of the lower division club, which adds a component of epic and uncertainty that characterizes this phase of the competition.

Atlético Baleares, the last survivor of Segunda RFEF

One of the great attractions of the draw will be to know the opponent of Atlético Baleares, the only representative of the Second RFEF that has managed to reach this round after eliminating Espanyol. By regulation, the Balearic team will be paired with one of the big four: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético or Athletic.

This guarantees a duel of maximum expectation, both for the local fans and for the general public, who will find in this match an example of the unpredictable nature that defines the Copa del Rey.

Schedule: when are the round of 16 matches played?

The knockout rounds corresponding to the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey will be played between December 16 and 18, spread over three matchdays that will close the Copa del Rey calendar for the year 2025.

During these days, an intense soccer calendar is expected, with matches that will combine the presence of the big favorites with the overcoming stories of lower-budget clubs, many of which play in non-professional divisions.

Drawing rules and conditions

The draw will follow the usual guidelines of the competition. The teams of lower categories will be paired first with those of higher rank, always maintaining the home condition for the lower division team.

In addition, there will be geographic and security constraints that could influence the pairing of certain teams, according to the organization. This includes preventing two clubs from the same city from playing at home on the same day, as well as other operational considerations.

Expectation for the crossings and the road to the round of 16

Tuesday’s Copa del Rey draw will mark a turning point in the 2025 edition of the tournament, as the pairings will directly condition the future of the clubs in the competition. For the lower-ranked teams, it is a unique opportunity to face the giants of Spanish soccer, while for the Primera Liga clubs it is the first serious test before the decisive phase.

With the Spanish Super Cup on the horizon and an increasingly compressed calendar, the clubs will try to resolve their ties efficiently, without being overconfident against opponents who, on many occasions, turn these duels into true feats.

The Copa del Rey maintains its ability to surprise, and Tuesday’s draw will be the first step in a round that, as every year, promises excitement, surprises and memorable matches.

This Friday, December 5, the 2026 World Cup Draw will be held in Washington DC, capital of the United States, which will divide the 48 qualified teams into 12 groups. It is the first time that a World Cup will feature this expanded format, and the event will mark the beginning of the road to the tournament to be played in Mexico, Canada and the United States.

The event will start at 18:00 (Spanish peninsular time) and can be followed live on La 1 and GOL TV. The coverage will be key for fans who want to know in real time how the groups will be defined and against which rivals each team will debut.

Spain, seeded in the first group of the draw 1

The Spanish national team will be in Pot 1, reserved for the seeded teams, along with the other great powers of world soccer. As confirmed by the organization, the other teams in Pot 1 are Canada, Mexico, the United States, Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

Spain has already qualified directly for the tournament and will not play an official match again until the World Cup. Their performance in the group stage will be crucial to advance confidently in the competition. Although the Spanish coach does not like to admit it, it is clear that ‘La Roja’ will be one of the clear favorites to lift the title.

How the draw will be conducted and what rules apply

The format of the draw reflects the new structure of 48 teams, which will be grouped into 12 groups of four teams (Groups A to L). The process will respect the usual rules, but adapted to the new configuration.

Regarding the seedings, the 12 teams in Draw 1 (including the hosts) will be the first to be drawn to occupy the first position in each group (Group A1, B1, C1… L1)».

The groups will then be completed with the teams from Rounds 2, 3 and 4, always respecting geographical restrictions. As confirmed by the organization, «no group may contain more than one team from the same confederation, with the exception of UEFA, which may have up to a maximum of two teams in the same group«.

The World Cup fixture list: key dates of the tournament

The 2026 World Cup Draw will not only define the composition of the groups, but also the complete match schedule, which will take place over 39 days, with a total of 104 matches.

The official dates are as follows:

  • Kickoff: The opening match is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
  • The group stage will be played from June 11 to 27, followed by the knockout rounds, which will begin with the round of 16 from June 28.
  • The semifinals are scheduled for mid-July, while the third-place match will be played on Saturday, July 18.
  • The grand final will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA.

Worldwide expectation for an unprecedented format

This edition of the World Cup will mark a historic milestone with its expanded format, and this Friday’s draw will be the first major pre-tournament event. Global attention will be focused on how the groups will be structured and in which part of the draw the big favorites will be placed.

The day will be particularly important for Spain, which is looking to repeat its 2010 success and whose initial performance could depend to a large extent on the draw. As noted, a good first phase will be key to getting off to a good start in the competition. This will depend, among other things, on the level of the opponents Spain will have to face in the group stage.

With the broadcast confirmed, the schedules set and the draws defined, the 2026 World Cup Draw is presented as the first major event of next year’s most anticipated tournament.

La entrada Unexpected blow that leaves Dani Olmo out of the game until 2026 se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.

Barça’s victory against Atlético de Madrid was marred by unexpected news: the injury of Dani Olmo, one of the scorers of the match. The azulgrana player, after scoring, fell in an unfortunate way and damaged his shoulder, which forced his immediate substitution. He could not even celebrate the goal he had scored.

The concern was evident in both the player and the club’s medical services. The first examinations ruled out a minor blow or a sprain: it was a dislocated shoulder, an injury that requires a longer recovery process.

The first medical report indicates that Olmo will not play again for the rest of the year and will miss at least four official matches.

Additional tests to define deadlines

In the coming hours, the player will undergo further medical tests to determine the extent of the injury and establish a timetable for his return. Although initial estimates suggest that his 2025th year of soccer is over, the club is waiting to confirm the definitive timetable.

This is not the first time Olmo has suffered from a similar ailment. During his time at RB Leipzig he already had to stop his activity due to problems in his left shoulder. This history reinforces the need for careful treatment and to avoid any haste in his return to the field.

Matches you will miss

If the medical forecasts are fulfilled, the striker will not be available for the matches against Real Betis, Eintracht, Osasuna and Villarreal, all of them scheduled before the end of 2025. In addition, his presence in the derby against Espanyol, scheduled for January 3 in Cornellà, is in doubt.

The loss of Olmo is a setback for Xavi Hernandez, who loses a key player in the attack at a decisive stage of the season. The coach will have to look for alternatives to maintain the team’s offensive efficiency in national and international competitions.

Dani Olmo‘s injury, confirmed as a dislocated shoulder, will keep him sidelined until 2026. Barça now faces a difficult few weeks without one of its key offensive players, while uncertainty remains over his possible return for the start of the new year.

The design is committed to landscape integration and sustainability, using environmentally friendly materials and energy efficiency systems that will reduce CO₂ emissions and the visual impact of the complex.

Es Putxet: the field that will bring rugby back to Ibiza

With a budget of 3.9 million euros, the new Es Putxet field will be one of the most versatile sports facilities on the island. The 113 x 72 meter artificial turf pitch will be prepared to host 11-a-side soccer, 7-a-side soccer and rugby, thus recovering a discipline that had been lacking its own space in the city for years.

The facility will comply with the approvals of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Royal Spanish Rugby Federation (RFER) and will include a physiotherapy room, men’s and women’s locker rooms, referee’s locker rooms, offices, storage and public toilets. It will also have an eight-row grandstand with a capacity for 986 spectators, ideal for official matches and local tournaments.

A new sports center in Figueretes: more space for more sports

The Figueretes neighborhood will inaugurate a 2,751 m² sports center in 2026, the result of an investment of 2.7 million euros. This is a strategic facility for grassroots sports, with the capacity to meet the growing demand from clubs, schools and municipal activities.

The pavilion will house three transversal basketball courts, a longitudinal court, a futsal court, three volleyball courts, as well as changing rooms, adapted changing rooms, a gymnasium, an infirmary, a storage area and an access control area.

The bleachers will make it possible to receive the public for federation competitions, which can be held thanks to the improved lighting and the regulatory height of the space.

Platja d’en Bossa renovates its sports court and improves security

The complete renovation of the Platja d’en Bossa sports court, at a cost of 86,265 euros, responds to a historical demand of the neighbors and represents a significant improvement in safety and efficiency. The project, promoted by the Town Council of Eivissa and Red Eléctrica Española, includes the complete replacement of the artificial turf, the renovation of the pavement, the repair of the perimeter enclosure and the installation of new lights capable of reducing energy consumption by up to 60%.

It is also planned to remove obstacles and replace the old concrete benches with polyethylene models, a measure that will increase the safety of users and reduce the risk of injury during games and training sessions.

With these actions, Ibiza takes a decisive step towards a more active, healthy and cohesive future. The modernization of its facilities not only improves the practice of sports, but also strengthens the social fabric of the municipality, promotes grassroots sports and expands opportunities for all citizens.

The investment marks a turning point in the city’s commitment to the well-being and quality of life of its residents.

La entrada Javi Poves’ explosive rant after 3-0 win: «I feel very embarrassed» and the list of players he wants off the team se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.

]]>
The always controversial Javi Poves, president of Colonia Moscardó and known for his terraplanning theories, has once again staged one of the most tense press conferences of the season. After losing 3-0 to CF Fuenlabrada, the leader not only expressed his deep disappointment, but also publicly listed the players whose contracts he would terminate in the upcoming winter transfer window. An outburst that is already circulating in networks and has once again placed him at the center of the controversy.

«I feel very embarrassed, sincerely. Just as there are other days when these players do represent me, today I am feeling ashamed. «He said as soon as he sat down in front of the media after the defeat at the Fernando Torres stadium. The phrase set the tone for the rest of his appearance: direct, without filters and ready to point out those responsible.

«Bad players make bad teams»: the seven players singled out

Poves did not avoid the question about which players he considers responsible for the team’s bad moment. On the contrary, he answered with jaw-dropping clarity.

«Right now? You’ll see how I get out of this question…. I would get both goalkeepers (Guille Pérez and Pablo Huélamo), Borja Paris would leave, Mauro Bravo would leave, I think Javier Akapo would also leave, Igor Irazú would also leave, Christian Molina would leave… He would leave… I am forgetting, to be honest. Someone else, for sure «.

Not only did he point them out, but he justified his opinion with a phrase that sums up his diagnosis of the team: «Bad players make bad teams«. In a mixture of criticism and affection, he also added: «I feel very angry for Borja Paris or Nacho Recalde, they are players I appreciate«.

Moscardó is currently second to last in Group 5 of the Second Federation, with 11 points from 13 games, which exacerbates the manager’s frustration.

Poves, against critics: «Many enjoy the fact that I am doing badly».

Beyond the sporting performance, the president wanted to comment on the treatment he receives on social networks, where he is a regular target of mockery, criticism and parody. «Many people enjoy the fact that I’m doing badly, but I have to say that I’m only doing badly in sporting terms,» he defended.

He also assured that, despite the team’s bad situation, his personal life and his way of understanding existence remain intact: «Spiritually and as a way of life it is impossible for it to go badly because I have the people who love me on my side… although in sporting terms I am not having a good time«.

A singular president at a critical moment

Colonia Moscardó is going through a delicate situation in the competition, and the figure of Poves, charismatic for some, eccentric for others, has become one more component of the crisis.

His particular vision of the world, his way of managing the club and his public reactions have turned his every appearance into a media event. But this time, with the team sinking in the standings and after a new blow on the pitch, Poves has opted for the crudest way: to point the finger at his own players and expose them openly.

The immediate future of the Moscardó, as well as the internal consequences of these statements, are as uncertain as they are tense. But if Poves has demonstrated once again that he is not willing to soften his discourse even in the most critical moments.

SD Ibiza continues to gain strength and confidence in a Municipal de Sant Rafel that is becoming a favorable territory for the unocerismo. The team coached by Raúl Casañ won 1-0 against Girona B in a hard-fought match, corresponding to the 12th matchday of Group 3 of the Second RFEF, and has now achieved its best streak of the season with three wins in the last four matches.

The rojillo eleven presented new features on the left wing with the entry of Andrada for the suspended Adrián, while Jaume Villar alternated between the defense and the midfield depending on the phases of possession. The duel started with intensity and warnings in both areas, such as Antonio Moreno ‘s shot in the first minute that was deflected by the Girona defense. The Catalan subsidiary, somewhat imprecise in the early stages, eventually settled down and generated danger with a direct free kick by Juan Arango and a finish by Nil Caldero that demanded the intervention of Frías and the attention of the Ibizan backline.

SD Ibiza responded with a long-range shot from Álex Sánchez that grazed the post, and despite the alternating dominance, the defenses prevailed in a final stretch of the first act marked by lack of control and quick transitions. Bourdal was providential in cutting out a free ball in the six-yard box before the game went to the break goalless.

After the changing rooms, Casañ introduced Marcos and Lorenzo Busi to revitalize the attack, and the move proved key. In one of his first interventions, Marcos put a ball into the box that led to an action reviewed by the referee: Villar was hit in the face inside the area and the referee pointed to a penalty. Marcos himself converted the penalty with aplomb to make it 1-0 and spark celebrations in Sant Rafel.

SD Ibiza maintained their momentum and came close to extending the lead with a very clear chance for Gilbert, whose one-on-one was solved by goalkeeper Sergi Puig. With Bernal imposing order in midfield and Riquelme providing clarity, the Pitiusas managed the pace of the game against a Girona B team that could not find ways to activate Garrido or a dull Arango.

In the final stretch, the locals reinforced their defensive structure with the entry of Joan Prado, while the Catalan subsidiary sought more offensive presence with Arenzana. Even so, the most dangerous chance was again Ibiza’s: Marcos came close to the second with a volley that went close to the top corner in the 87th minute. The added time passed without surprises and SD Ibiza certified a victory that consolidates their recovery and brings them closer to the relegation places with 14 points.

The Municipal de Sant Rafel is once again synonymous with security for a team that has found in defensive order and minimum efficiency a reliable formula for climbing positions.

The national team of Curaçao, a Caribbean country of just 155,000 inhabitants, has achieved one of the most astonishing feats in the history of international soccer. November 18, 2025 was marked as the day the island side became the smallest country in the world to qualify for a World Cup, surpassing the record held by Iceland since 2018.

The feat is even more extraordinary if one considers an unusual fact: all 24 players called up for this double date were born in Europe, especially in Dutch cities such as Rotterdam, Utrecht, Groningen or Amsterdam. A reflection of the close historical ties between Curaçao and the Netherlands.

The team, led by veteran coach Dick Advocaat, a former Netherlands national team manager, sealed its qualification with a 0-0 draw against Jamaica in Kingston, enough to finish top of Group B of the CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2026 North American World Cup.

A historic tie that sparked a national celebration

In a packed Independence Park, Curaçao needed only a point to secure its place in the tournament. The team maintained its defensive order and withstood the Jamaican pressure, postponing the local dream of returning to the World Cup after 28 years. Curaçao’s campaign was impeccable: undefeated and with a 7-0 thrashing of Bermuda that set the tone.

Advocaat, who was absent from the match for personal reasons, adds another page to his extensive resume. The coach coached the Netherlands in three stints and also coached South Korea, Belgium and Russia before taking over the Curaçao bench.

The national team will find out its group rivals on December 5 at the draw to be held at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

An island with a Spanish past: Curaçao, from «useless island» to unexpected soccer powerhouse

Beyond the sporting achievement, Curaçao’s history has a deep connection with Spain. The island was initially inhabited by the Arawak and Caquetío peoples, originally from South America, until the Spanish explorer Alonso de Ojeda arrived in 1499. Thanks to him, Curaçao appeared for the first time on the world map of the cartographer Juan de la Cosa.

The Spanish administration was established in 1526, although they soon observed that the territory offered no economic interest. Finding neither gold nor productive land, the colonizers renamed Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao as «islands of the giants» due to the size of their inhabitants, and later as «useless islands» for their apparent lack of resources.

In 1634, the Dutch took control of the island, which became an important center of the transatlantic slave trade. Decades later, the arrival of the European Jewish community profoundly marked the local economy and culture.

The abolition of slavery in the Antilles came in 1863 and the 20th century transformed Curaçao into a key energy enclave thanks to the Royal Dutch Shell refinery, vital to the Allies during World War II.

In 1954, the island became part of the Netherlands Antilles and it was not until 2020 that it reached the status of an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

A World Cup that amplifies diversity: qualifiers so far

With its qualification, Curaçao joins the 42 teams that have already secured their ticket to the 2026 World Cup. Among them are:

  • Hosts: Canada, United States and Mexico.
  • Asia: Australia, Qatar, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, South Korea and Uzbekistan.
  • Africa: Algeria, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.
  • Conmebol: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Uruguay.
  • CONCACAF: Panama, Curacao and Haiti.
  • Europe: England, France, Croatia, Portugal, Norway, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Austria, Scotland and Switzerland.
  • Oceania: New Zealand.

In addition, six teams are still fighting for the two additional berths through the intercontinental play-offs: Bolivia, New Caledonia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Jamaica and Suriname.

La entrada Dani Benítez breaks his silence and relives the mistake that destroyed his sports career: «I took a line of cocaine thinking that I would be better to go to training». se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.

The ex-footballer Dani Benítez, remembered for his time at clubs such as Granada and Mallorca, is once again in the media spotlight after offering one of the most powerful testimonies of his professional life. He has done so in a new documentary broadcast by Movistar, where he reconstructs with crudeness the night that changed his future forever: a punctual consumption of cocaine that ended in a positive for doping and a sanction that stopped his evolution in the First Division.

Benítez himself admits that, until that moment, he had never used drugs and that it was a decision taken out of absolute unconsciousness. The story, raw and unadorned, shows him facing a mistake that, as he himself admits, he will «always» carry with him.

The night that changed everything: alcohol, pressure and a fateful decision

The former player recounts in detail that Friday that led to the doping control that ruined his career. The story begins with a party at his house that went on much longer than expected. Sleepless, completely drunk and with training at 7:30 in the morning, he made a desperate decision.

«He arrived on a Friday and we had a party at home, and it dragged on. The next day I had training, it would be 7:30 in the morning and I was very drunk. I said, ‘Oh my God, now I have to go train and I’m not in a state to go train’. One person said to me: ‘Take a line, you’re going to wake up and go train’. And I did a line of cocaine. That was the biggest mistake of my life and I will always carry it with me. I did a line of cocaine believing that my body would be better to endure and go train. I had never taken drugs in my life, never in my life. «, he explains in the documentary Informe Plus.

The result of that night is well known: the anti-doping control after the match against Betis, positive for cocaine, and a two-year ban that cut short his progression and closed many doors that until then seemed to have been open to him.

A mistake that took away his professional life

Months ago, the former player also addressed this episode on the set of El Chiringuito, where he summed up in one sentence the impact it had on his life: «They took away my life«. Despite the pain, he insists that he never had a subsequent addiction or habitual consumption. «Was I addicted afterwards? No, not at all… I have always spoken about this subject openly and I have no problem in admitting my mistake. «he told Josep Pedrerol at the time.

Benitez clearly remembers that day of the positive, a match against Real Betis that came accompanied by a personal context that, seen in perspective, was a perfect storm. «We were playing against Real Betis at home, on Sunday at 12 o’clock. I was coming off an injury and we had a party at home. I thought I was not going to be called up, I have said it many times. «he says. But he was called up. And the worst decision of his life, taken just a few hours before, had no turning back.

The weight of a sanction that left him without opportunities

The two-year suspension became a difficult burden to lift. Although he tried hard to come back, to prove that it had been a one-off mistake, professional soccer did not give him another chance. «One night I got drunk and made the worst decision of my life. That cost me the sanction «he admits.

Despite repeating that he never developed a drug dependency, the stigma of the positive accompanied him for years and conditioned any option to return to the elite. «Was I addicted afterwards? No, not at all… I have never had a drug addiction problem, so to speak. Thanks to God, I have never had a drug addiction problem, so to speak. «he insists in his defense.

A frustrated return: closed doors and a second chance that never arrived

After serving his suspension, he returned to training and looking for a team, but the rejection was widespread. He himself admits how much it hurt him to see his name generated mistrust.

«When I came back from the two-year suspension, all the doors were closed. And that hurt me a lot. It’s normal that they don’t trust you, but it’s complicated… What I wanted was to go back to being a soccer player and show that I was wrong, that I made a mistake. It was a very serious mistake, one that shouldn’t have been made, but you can’t erase it. «, he reflects.

That failure in his attempt to rejoin the elite marked the end of his time in professional soccer as he had dreamed it would be.

With the discretion that has always characterized his most personal gestures, Leo Messi has returned to Barcelona… and to Camp Nou. The Argentine footballer, currently playing for Inter Miami, surprised this Monday with a publication on his social networks in which he is seen touring the renovated stadium, still under construction and partially reopened to the public.

What appeared to be a simple sentimental visit turned into a gesture charged with symbolism and emotion, as the star took advantage of the occasion to send a message with an obvious emotional – and critical – charge towards the FC Barcelona board and, in particular, its president, Joan Laporta.

«I came back to a place I miss with my soul.»

In his message, Messi not only recalled his time at the club, but also hinted at the open wound of his abrupt departure in 2021, when he had to leave Barça in tears due to the impossibility of renewing his contract. «Last night I returned to a place I miss with my soul. A place where I was immensely happy, where you made me feel a thousand times the happiest person in the world,» the footballer wrote.

A post shared by Leo Messi (@leomessi).

The text, accompanied by several images of the player at the new Camp Nou (still wearing a construction helmet and dimmed lights), continues with a wish that resonates among the fans: «I hope one day I can return, and not only to say goodbye as a player, as I could never do it…».

These words have been interpreted as a hint to Joan Laporta, whom the Argentine partly blames for the way in which he left the club.

A farewell that never happened

In August 2021, Messi said goodbye to FC Barcelona in an emotional press conference, without being able to do so on the pitch and in front of his fans. At the time, the club cited economic reasons and the limitations of LaLiga’s «financial fair play» to justify his departure.

The player himself said at the time that he had done everything possible to stay, even accepting a 50% salary reduction, but Barça was unable to enter him in the competition.

That farewell left a deep sense of injustice in both the player and the fans. Since then, Messi has not played at Camp Nou again, although he has repeatedly expressed his desire to have a farewell to match his 17 years of glory at the club. «I always said that I would like to say goodbye to the people as I deserve, as the history we had together deserves,» the Argentine said in an interview last year.

The pending dream: a farewell with the fans

During his time at Barça, Leo Messi won 35 titles, including 10 La Liga titles, 4 Champions League and 7 Copa del Rey, in addition to multiple individual awards. His legacy transcends numbers: he was the leader of a golden generation that marked an era in world soccer.

However, the player himself has insisted that the lack of an official farewell was a thorn in his side. «It was very hard to leave like that. I couldn’t say goodbye the way I wanted to, with the people in the stadium,» the player admitted after signing for Inter Miami.

His unexpected return to the Camp Nou has reignited the debate about the tribute that the fans have been calling for for years. Many fans believe that Barça owes a moral debt to its greatest player in history, and that the reconstruction of the stadium would be the perfect scenario to settle it.

Messi and the eternal bond with Barcelona

Although his career continues in the United States, Messi has maintained an emotional and family bond with Barcelona, the city where he lived for more than two decades. His wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, and his children continue to visit the city frequently, and the player himself maintains his residence in Castelldefels.

In addition, his relationship with former teammates such as Busquets and Jordi Alba, with whom he shares a dressing room at Inter Miami, keeps the Blaugrana spirit alive in his day-to-day life.

UD Ibiza continues without raising its head. The light blue team could not get past a goalless draw against Betis Deportivo, last classified of the group, in a match played this Sunday at Can Misses that left more frustration than hope among the fans. With this result, Miguel Álvarez’s side have now gone three consecutive days without a goal (since the current coach replaced Paco Jémez) and their situation in the table has become more complicated.

The coach surprised at the start with the joint presence of Davo and Sofiane as offensive references, in a bid to reinforce the attack after the last few days without success. However, the proposal hardly translated into danger. During the first half, Ibiza hardly troubled Manu, the visiting goalkeeper, beyond long-range shots by Del Pozo and Ernesto. In front, the green and white subsidiary did not make enough merits to take the lead either, in a thick first half, without rhythm or depth.

After passing through the changing rooms, the script changed slightly. The Ibizan team showed more attacking intent, driven by the need to win and by the whistles coming down from the stands. Davo had a clear chance with a tame header and Sofiane came close to scoring when he crashed the ball against the post after a cross from the left. But the goal, one more day, resisted.

The entry of Bebé and Fran Castillo gave a little more spark to the attack. The Cape Verdean winger stirred up the match with his energy and came close to scoring on several occasions: a powerful shot that went just wide of the post, a direct free kick that was just wide and, above all, a one-on-one that the keeper saved with his foot in the closing stages. It was the clearest chance of the match.

«We lacked the last pass.»

In the end, the scoreboard did not move and the goalless draw was a true reflection of what happened on the pitch: an Ibiza lacking in ideas, struggling to generate danger and impotent even against direct rivals for permanence. Although the team remains out of relegation, the fans showed their dissatisfaction and Álvarez’s team still can’t find the formula to break a drought that threatens to complicate their season even more.

«We lacked a little more continuity in three quarters and the last pass to finish the plays», considered the coach after the game. Although «it was a game to win», the coach analyzed that «the team made merits» to get the victory.

For his part, Iago Indias pointed out: «Perhaps we are lacking confidence and that means that we are not being good in front of goal».

Achraf Hakimi experienced probably the most bitter birthday of his career. The Real Madrid youth product, now a key player for Paris Saint-Germain and captain of the Morocco national team, turned 27 amid widespread concern about his physical condition.

The full-back left the Parc des Princes on crutches and wearing an orthopedic boot after suffering a badly sprained left ankle caused by a hard tackle from Luis Diaz, who was sent off following VAR intervention.

Hakimi’s tearful gesture of pain as he left the field left not only PSG, but all of Morocco, which is already counting down the days until the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for December 21, with the Atlas Lions as hosts.

«A dream has been broken»: Morocco holds its breath

The news came as a cold shower in the Maghreb country, where Hakimi is not only a sporting star, but a national symbol. «I am convinced that a dream has been broken for him. You can’t imagine what it means for Hakimi to play the Africa Cup of Nations at home. He is the captain, a national hero,» said journalist Hervé Penot of L’Équipe.

In Morocco, the local media reflected the emotional impact of the incident. The portal Hespress headlined: «Morocco holds its breath. The whole country felt a pang of pain,» while Le 360 remarked: «Nightmare night. Hakimi represents much more than a player: he is one of the most constant pillars of the national team».

The injury comes at the worst possible time: with Morocco aiming to win the continental title in front of their home fans and just a month and a half before their debut in the competition.

More optimistic forecasts from Paris

Even so, it is not all bad news. As Giovanni Castaldi advanced, also in L’Équipe, the first medical reports offered a hopeful prognosis. «He will have an MRI tomorrow [today]. According to the first reports, he will be out for three to five weeks,» the journalist explained.

If this forecast is confirmed, Hakimi could arrive in time to play in the continental tournament, although his presence will depend on the evolution of his ankle. «Great news for Hakimi, great!» celebrated RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo on social media.

For his part, the PSG coach preferred to play down the drama of the episode and Luis Diaz’s tackle. «It’s soccer, it’s a contact sport. I also remember Musiala’s injury. These are simply unfortunate incidents. Tomorrow [today] we will see the doctor to find out the nature of these injuries,» he told a press conference.

Hakimi’s weight in Morocco and at PSG

For Morocco, losing Hakimi would be a difficult blow to take. The right-back is the heart and soul of Walid Regragui’s team, both on and off the field. His leadership was essential during the Qatar 2022 World Cup, where the Atlas Lions became the first African team to reach the semifinals, making world soccer history.

At PSG, Hakimi has also established himself as one of the most important players in the scheme. His speed, power and unbalance make him a modern full-back, with both offensive and defensive weight. This season, he has played eleven Ligue 1 matches and several European games, and has been a key player for Luis Enrique.

The Spanish coach, aware of the player’s role in the squad, has on more than one occasion expressed his admiration for the Moroccan: «He is a player who understands the game, who has ambition and who does not settle».

Africa Cup, a very special event for Hakimi

December 21 is marked in red on the footballer’s calendar. Morocco will host the African Cup of Nations (CAN), a tournament that, as he himself has stated on numerous occasions, «has been a dream since I was a child».

In this edition, the Atlas Lions start as one of the big favorites for the title, boosted by the talent of players such as Hakim Ziyech, Sofyan Amrabat, Youssef En-Nesyri and Hakimi himself.

The Municipal Football Field of Formentera will undergo a new improvement with the installation of a drinking water supply network. After the recent inauguration of the new bleachers, the Consell de Formentera has put out to tender the necessary works to connect the sports facilities to the municipal network, with a budget of 195,438.44 euros, VAT included.

The project includes the construction of an underground pipeline that will connect the connection point at the beginning of the Vell de la Mola road with the soccer field. In addition, the necessary interior connections will be defined to supply the changing rooms, bathrooms and other services of the sports complex.

The deadline for submitting bids will be open until March 3, and the company awarded the contract will have three months to carry out the work.

A project within the Water Pact

The Councilor of Economy, Territory and Infrastructures, Javier Serra, has pointed out that these works are part of the collaboration agreement with the Balearic Government, framed in the Pact for Water. This agreement contemplates an investment of 350,000 euros to improve the efficiency of the water networks on the island.

Of this amount, 320,000 euros come from the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS), while the remaining 30,000 euros are provided by the Consell Insular de Formentera.

In addition to the extension of the supply at the soccer field, this plan includes the renovation and updating of the pumping system of Sa Senieta, in Sant Francesc, with the aim of optimizing the use of water and guaranteeing a better service in the island’s infrastructures.

With this new action, the Municipal Soccer Field of Formentera continues its modernization process, ensuring better conditions for athletes and users.

The trip to Ibiza with which the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) rewarded the players after winning the World Cup became a scene of anguish and despair for Jennifer Hermoso, according to the testimony of Alexia Putellas in the trial against Luis Rubiales.

In her statement by videoconference before the National Court, the FC Barcelona player said that, during the stay in Ibiza, Hermoso was «very overwhelmed» and burst into tears on several occasions. «We tried to make sure she was fine, that she enjoyed herself, but at one point she told us: ‘I don’t know what I’m doing here,'» Putellas recounted.

The player’s words confirm that the pressures on Hermoso were not limited to the flight back to Spain, but extended to the celebration on the island. According to Putellas, her teammate was mentally «no longer there» at the celebration and, despite the group’s attempts to cheer her up, her expression reflected exhaustion and sadness.

Putellas also recalled a significant episode at the parade organized in Ibiza in honor of the world champions: «I saw her crying again. She put on her sunglasses and tried to hide it, but she was visibly affected.»

The player’s testimony adds to those of other teammates who have pointed to the existence of coercion to minimize the aggression of Rubiales, accused of sexual assault and coercion after the non-consensual kiss to Hermoso in the World Cup final.

Toni Curuné charges against Jordi Horrach after his dismissal in the Balearic Football Federation: «He is a liar». https://lavozdeibiza.com/current-news/toni-curune-charges-against-jordi-horrach-after-his-dismissal-in-the-balearic-football-federation-he-is-a-liar/ Tue, 04 Feb 2025 18:36:09 +0000 https://lavozdeibiza.com/sin-categorizar/2025/02/04/toni-curune-charges-against-jordi-horrach-after-his-dismissal-in-the-balearic-football-federation-he-is-a-liar/ Former third vice-president denies having resigned and accuses president of acting "on the sly".

The dismissal of Toni Curuné as third vice-president of the Balearic Football Federation has unleashed a real storm within the federation.

Curuné, who saw his dismissal published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) on January 23, has lashed out against the president of the federation, Jordi Horrach, whom he has branded a «liar» for the management of his departure.

According to the former leader in statements to Radio Ibiza, no one has formally informed him of his dismissal nor has he received any official notification. In addition, he criticized that the board of directors has acted «on the sly» in a process that, in his opinion, has been plagued with irregularities.

A resignation that Planells denies

The BOIB states that Curruné’s departure is due to his «resignation», but what is most striking is that the publication mentions two different dates for his supposed resignation: November 26, 2024 and January 13, 2025. Subsequently, the document ends up acknowledging his termination, which has generated even more confusion about the procedure followed by the Federation.

The trigger for this controversy dates back to November, after a youth match played at the Sant Miquel field between Penya Independent and Andratx. After the match, there were serious incidents with aggressions between players and fans. In this context, a video was released showing Curruné, who has denied at all times having participated in any violent act.

Initially, it was reported that he had resigned, but the former manager has flatly denied that version and maintains that the facts have proven him right. According to Curruné, the only complaint filed with the Guardia Civil by Andratx was directed against two Penya Independent players, not against him.

Complaint against a representative of Andratx

In addition to his disagreement with his dismissal, Curruné has announced that he has filed a complaint against a representative of Andratx, who publicly accused him of assaulting a minor in the incidents that occurred after the match. The complaint, as well as the one filed against the two players, is being processed in the courts of Palma.

In this sense, the former vice president has regretted the lack of support from the Balearic Football Federation at a complicated time for him: «I thought that when unfair accusations are made, we are here to help each other,» he said. He also pointed out that no one from the federation has contacted him since the events occurred.

Horrach insists that Planells resigned

From the Balearic Football Federation, Jordi Horrach has defended that Curruné did present his resignation after the altercations in November, sending an email announcing his resignation. However, this document was not accepted by the Directorate General of Sports of the Balearic Government, as it did not contain any signature.

Faced with this situation, Curruné reconsidered his position and informed the federation that he would not resign, as there was no reason to do so. As he explained, his initial decision was the result of discomfort and pressure derived from «an unfair situation».

The conflict between the two parties exposes internal tensions within the Balearic Football Federation, with Curruné claiming that his dismissal is part of a deliberate strategy to remove the Ibizans from the board.
