]]>Specifically, the Ibizan municipality allocated 61.8 euros per inhabitant in 2024, a figure that places it in the group of the 45 «poorest» municipalities in social investment among the 404 municipalities of more than 20,000 inhabitants analyzed in Spain.
According to the study, Sant Antoni ranks 39th in this list of lowest investment. In the Balearic Islands, Inca ( 55.3 euros per inhabitant) and Manacor (62.3 euros) are also among the municipalities with the lowest social spending.
This ranking contrasts with the municipalities that the association considers of «excellence», those that spend more than 200 euros per inhabitant per year. This group of 27 municipalities includes Maó for the first time, which invested 228 euros per inhabitant, placing it in 21st place in the national ranking of highest investment.
The report highlights that the median expenditure among the municipalities analyzed was 106.48 euros per inhabitant, an increase of 4.36% over the previous year. Total municipal investment in social services exceeded 4,261 million euros, 6.2% more than in 2023.
The association stresses that the results show an «enormous inequality» between municipalities, to the point that «the postal code» becomes a determining element in the rights and services that citizens receive, instead of applying criteria of universality and equity.
By autonomous communities, Andalusia is once again the region with the highest number of «excellent» municipalities, while Madrid has the highest percentage of municipalities with low social investment, followed by the Valencian Community.
