The lighting of the Christmas lights will mark, once again, the official start of one of the most special times of the calendar in Ibiza. From November 28, the municipalities of the island will begin a staggered calendar of illuminations that will last until December 5 and will coincide with several days of stable weather, clear skies and mild temperatures, according to the weather forecast.

The first day of lighting, this Thursday 28, will come with a fully anticyclonic scenario. The morning will begin with clear skies and temperatures that will go from 11 degrees early in the morning to about 15 degrees at noon, with light to moderate wind from the west. In the afternoon, coinciding with the acts of Sant Joan and the official lighting of Sant Antoni at 18.30 hours, the atmosphere will remain sunny and pleasant, with 13 degrees at 19 hours and moderate wind from the southwest. The night will remain stable and without remarkable cloudiness.

Ibiza City will live its big day on Friday, November 29, when in the Reina Sofia Park at 18.30 hours the Christmas magic is turned on. The day will come with a slight change in the sky, which will dawn overcast, although from noon the clouds will be opening. Maximum temperatures will reach 17 degrees. For the act of lighting is expected 14 degrees, light breeze from the east and total absence of precipitation, creating a comfortable atmosphere for the official start of Christmas in Ibiza.

Sant Josep will celebrate its lighting on December 4 at 6 pm, on a day marked by clouds and clear skies. Temperatures will range between 14 degrees in the morning and 17 degrees at noon. At the time of the act, the sky will tend to clear, with 15 degrees, moderate wind from the east and excellent visibility.

The cycle of inaugurations will conclude on December 5 in Santa Eulària, which will turn on its lighting at 18 hours under an equally calm weather scenario. In winter, Ibiza leaves behind the bustling summer season and becomes an ideal refuge for those who want to explore its treasures calmly. Here we tell you the five essential activities to enjoy the island at this magical time of the year.

Exploring Dalt Vila, the historic quarter

One of the most recommended activities in winter is touring Dalt Vila, the old town of Ibiza and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This place, with its cobblestone streets, Renaissance walls and panoramic views, offers an unparalleled cultural experience. During this season, the lack of crowds allows for a quieter exploration, where you can visit museums, art galleries and small local cafes. Walking through its streets will transport you back in time, while enjoying the tranquility and charm of this historic corner.

Discovering deserted beaches

Although winter is not the ideal season for swimming, Ibiza’s beaches are a spectacle in themselves. In this season, places like Cala Comte, Cala Salada and Cala d’Hort stand out for their serenity and natural beauty. These beaches are perfect for relaxing walks or simply to enjoy the seascapes in complete calm. Without the usual influx of tourists, they become unique spaces where you can connect with nature and enjoy the sound of the sea.

Walking among almond blossom trees

In winter, Ibiza surprises with the flowering of almond trees, especially in the valley of Santa Inés. This is a unique experience for nature and hiking lovers. Routes such as Es Broll de Buscastell or the rural paths around Santa Inés will take you through idyllic landscapes, full of color and tranquility. It is a perfect opportunity to enjoy a different Ibiza, away from the tourist bustle, and admire the natural beauty of the island at its best.

Savor the local gastronomy

Ibicencan gastronomy is a pleasure for the palate at any time of the year, but in winter it acquires a special touch. Dishes such as sofrit pagès, a meat and potato stew, or bullit de peix, a fish stew with rice a banda, are ideal to warm up. For those with a sweet tooth, traditional desserts such as flaó, a cheese and mint tart, are not to be missed. In the local markets and restaurants, you will also find fresh seasonal products that reflect the Mediterranean essence of the island.

Enjoying local festivities

Winter in Ibiza is full of celebrations and events that allow you to discover the local culture. Among them are the patron saint festivals, Christmas markets and activities such as Eivicadabra, a magic festival that brings together world-renowned artists. In addition, during the Christmas holidays, the island is illuminated with decorations and shows that create a cozy and festive atmosphere. This is the perfect time to stroll through the villages and enjoy their magical atmosphere.

Ibiza in winter is a different destination, where calm and natural beauty combine with its cultural and gastronomic richness. These five activities are just a sample of what the island has to offer this season, allowing you to discover a more intimate and authentic side of this Mediterranean paradise.

The gusts of wind that hit Ibiza y Formentera since Sunday have caused several incidents that have required the intervention of emergency services. As reported by the Fire Department of Ibiza, a total of eight services have been attended in the municipalities of Sant Joan, Sant Josep, Sant Antoni and Santa Eulària, mainly related to fallen trees and downed wires that have affected roads and other areas. Although the incidents recorded so far have not been serious, the authorities maintain active the orange alert for wind and coastal phenomena throughout the day on Sunday. Weather forecasts indicate that on Monday the alert will be downgraded to yellow, with gusts that could reach up to 70 kilometers per hour.

Incidents and damages on the islands

The Emergency Service 112 of the Balearic Islands has managed a total of 378 incidents related to the wind in all the islands until 13:00 hours on Sunday. Ibiza is not only a summer paradise, also in winter it unfolds its magic with a more relaxed and charming atmosphere. Discover what to do in three days on the island, from its quiet beaches to its rich gastronomy and vibrant nightlife. Although in winter Ibiza takes a break from the summer bustle, it maintains its appeal with a combination of good weather, stunning scenery and a cultural and gastronomic offer that leaves no one indifferent. Here we propose a tour to make the most of three days in this Mediterranean paradise.

The weather in Ibiza in winter

Winter in Ibiza is mild and temperate thanks to its Mediterranean climate. Temperatures range from 8°C to 16°C, allowing you to enjoy outdoor activities without needing to dress too warmly. The days tend to be mostly sunny, with some clouds and occasional showers that bring freshness to the atmosphere.

This climate makes the island an ideal destination for those looking to escape the extreme cold and enjoy relaxing days with a tranquility that is difficult to find at other times of the year. In addition, winter sunsets in Ibiza are among the most spectacular, with intense colors that paint the sky over the Mediterranean.

Beaches

Although the water temperature may be low for a dip, Ibiza’s beaches in winter offer a special charm. Without the usual crowds, they are perfect for enjoying walks, reading a book by the sea or simply contemplating their natural beauty. Cala Comte, known for its crystal-clear waters, is ideal for watching the sunset in a tranquil setting. Cala d’Hort, with its iconic view of the islet of Es Vedrà, is another must-see, while Cala Salada invites you to connect with nature in a serene setting. Winter is also a great opportunity to explore hidden beaches, perfect for those looking to discover the most authentic essence of Ibiza.

What to eat?

Ibicencan gastronomy is a journey in itself, and in winter it takes on a warmer and more comforting character. One of the most emblematic dishes is bullit de peix, a fish stew served with arroz a banda. Also of note is sofrit pagès, a traditional stew combining meat, sausages and potatoes. For those with a sweet tooth, flaó is a fresh cheese and mint tart that conquers all palates, while orelletes are perfect to accompany a coffee or local liqueur. Don’t miss the island’s wines and oils, products that reflect Ibiza’s Mediterranean character. In winter, many restaurants offer special menus with local seasonal products, providing an authentic gastronomic experience.

What to do at night: parties in Ibiza

Although winter brings a pause in the big parties that make Ibiza famous, the island does not lose its festive spirit. Some clubs, such as Pacha, maintain their active agenda with themed events and live performances. In addition, local bars and pubs, especially in Dalt Vila and the port of Ibiza, offer a cozy atmosphere in which to enjoy music and cocktails. During the Christmas festivities, the island is filled with markets, lights and cultural events that transform the nights into unique experiences. Strolling through the illuminated streets or enjoying a concert in an intimate space are ideal options to close the day.

Ibiza in three days, even in winter, is an unforgettable experience. From its quiet beaches to its gastronomy and nightlife, the island offers everything you need for a perfect getaway. Let yourself be conquered by the more relaxed and authentic side of this Mediterranean paradise.

The State Meteorological Agency(Aemet) has announced the end of the alert for the DANA that kept Ibiza and Formentera in suspense since Tuesday. At 11 am this Wednesday, the weather warnings have been deactivated, putting an end to a day marked by heavy rains and wind gusts that reached 60 kilometers per hour. The storm left its mark on the islands, causing trees to fall, small landslides and blockages on rural and main roads, such as the Perella road in Santa Eulària, where a fallen tree forced the intervention of firefighters to clear the road. The AEMET forecast indicates that weather conditions will improve in the coming hours, although some cloudy intervals will remain in different municipalities. The authorities remind that, although the alert has ended, residents should travel with caution in areas affected by the recent incidents.

How will the weather continue in the next few days?

Ibiza

Temperatures in Ibiza town will remain between 19 and 21°C, with partly cloudy skies and low probability of rain today. From Thursday onwards, a stabilization of the weather is expected, with similar temperatures and no significant precipitation on the horizon.

Sant Josep

This municipality will experience temperatures between 17 and 19°C today, with mostly clear skies and a minimal chance of showers. For the rest of the week, the weather is expected to be stable, with light winds and mild temperatures.

Santa Eulària

In Santa Eulària, the thermometer will range between 16 and 21°C today, and slight cloudiness is expected. The chances of rain will be low, and the skies will tend to clear in the next few days, keeping the weather calm for the weekend.

Sant Joan

In this northern municipality, temperatures will vary between 15 and 19°C, with cloudy intervals during the day. The forecast for the rest of the week calls for clear skies, with moderate easterly winds that will bring a cool feeling.

Sant Antoni

Today, temperatures in Sant Antoni are expected to range between 17 and 22°C. The weather will be mostly sunny as of Thursday, with no rain in sight and light winds that will keep the atmosphere pleasant in the area.

Formentera

In Formentera, temperatures will be between 18 and 20°C, with clear skies and no rain forecast for the next few days. The northeast wind, moderate, will bring freshness in coastal areas, ideal for those looking to enjoy the island with tranquility. Although the alerts for the DANA have been deactivated, the call for caution remains in force for the next few days, especially in areas with traces of incidents caused by the storm. The gradual improvement of the weather brings relief for residents and visitors, who will be able to resume their activities normally as the islands recover their usual calm.

Santa Eulària has witnessed a waterspout this Tuesday in the middle of the orange alert in force throughout Ibiza and Formentera due to heavy rains and storms. The image was shared on social networks by a neighbor, Bernadett El Ouazzani-Ványi, who captured the imposing waterspout from Babylon Beach and commented: «Waterspout at 8:05 in Santa Eulària del Riu». The Balearic Islands, including the Pitiusas, are under weather watch by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which has forecast rainfall of up to 40 liters per square meter in one hour and accumulated 100 liters in the next 12 hours. This alert began early Tuesday morning and will remain active until noon on Wednesday, at which time the weather situation could give a break to the region.

Emergency Plan and Precautionary Measures

The General Directorate of Emergencies and Interior has activated the Severity Index 1 (IG1) of the Special Plan for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (Meteobal) and the Inunbal Plan in operational situation (SO) 0, reinforcing the need for precaution against possible flooding. In addition, inhabitants have been reminded of preventive measures in homes, such as securing windows and doors, and moving valuable items and basic supplies to safe areas. In the countryside and urban areas, it is recommended to avoid areas of torrents or flood risk and seek shelter in buildings. On the road, authorities ask to avoid unnecessary travel, and in case of reduced visibility, to stop the vehicle and stay safe. Emergencies insist on not crossing flooded areas, as even a small amount of water can wash away vehicles.

School Activities and Education Protocol

The Ministry of Education and Universities has decided to suspend all extracurricular activities in schools in the Balearic Islands, although it is confirmed that classes will continue normally. However, the UIB has asked students to avoid traveling to the headquarters in Pitiusas and Menorca, as well as those who have practices in schools.

The bonanza of temperatures that has allowed the inhabitants of Ibiza enjoy mild days will come to an end this week with the entry of a current of cold air from the interior of Europe. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) anticipates a significant drop in temperatures from Tuesday onwards, as well as a possible DANA in the Western Mediterranean that could bring considerable rainfall. For this Sunday, the weather forecast for Ibiza contemplates a cloudy sky with light showers in the morning and maximum temperatures of 21ºC. Towards the afternoon, the sky will clear and temperatures are expected to remain at 21 degrees, while minimum temperatures will range between 15 and 16 degrees, with cloudy intervals and light showers.

Sharp drop in temperatures from Tuesday onwards

From Monday, the weather will start to cool down, especially from Tuesday, when the arrival of a jet of cold air will radically change the outlook. This change responds to the displacement of the Azores anticyclone to the north, allowing the entry of cold air that will affect both the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Although temperatures will not reach winter levels, they will be in line with the usual values for November, and even somewhat lower, which means that the traditional ‘summer of St. Martin’ will not be experienced this year. The coldest days are expected to be Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures in Ibiza ranging between 12 and 17 degrees on Tuesday and between 11 and 17 degrees on Wednesday.

Possible formation of a DANA

Some weather models indicate the possible formation of a DANA (Isolated High Level Depression) over the Iberian Peninsula. This phenomenon, also known as cold drop, could result in significant rainfall, although not necessarily torrential, in the coming days. The DANA would occur if cold air breaks away from the general atmospheric flow, increasing the probability of significant rainfall in the region.

The month of October in Ibiza and Formentera was characterized by being exceptionally warm and dry, according to the report of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Average temperatures exceeded the usual and rainfall was well below average for this time of year, which has marked an atypical October in these islands of the Balearic archipelago. As for temperatures, the average on Ibiza was 20.6ºC, with an anomaly of 1.5ºC higher than expected, while on Formentera the average reached 21.5ºC, registering an anomaly of 0.8ºC. This increase in temperatures was reflected in the month’s highs, with peaks of up to 32.6ºC in Sant Joan on the 2nd in Ibiza, equaling the record for the same month in 2013. On Formentera, the high for the month was 29.1ºC on the same day. These figures have placed October 2024 as one of the warmest October months in recent years in the region. In terms of rainfall, October was a dry month in both Ibiza and Formentera, where rainfall was well below normal.

Ibiza recorded 30.9 l/m², 47% less than the usual average of 58.4 l/m², while in Formentera the figure was only 22 l/m², 50% less than the historical average of 43.9 l/m². On both islands, the heaviest rainfall day was the 26th, with maximums of 30 l/m² in Sant Joan de Labritja in Ibiza and 10 l/m² in Formentera. Another notable phenomenon was the presence of tropical nights, when temperatures did not drop below 20ºC. At Ibiza airport, eight tropical nights were recorded, when the usual for October is around three. In Formentera, the island’s station also reached 10 tropical nights, a record that triples the average for the month.

Winds

As for winds, the month also presented an increase in days of strong wind, especially in Ibiza, where eight days of wind were recorded with gusts of up to 67 km / h from the southwest on the 17th, and in Formentera, which recorded five days of wind with a maximum of 59 km / h on the same day. Despite the decrease in rainfall, the Aemet has noted the presence of mist and fog in Ibiza for four days and in Formentera for two days. The weather agency concludes that, in general, October has been an anomalous month, with unusual conditions in terms of temperatures and drought on both islands, which have experienced a warm and dry October, marked by tropical nights and windy days.

La entrada The weather in Ibiza and Formentera for this Monday, October 28: rain and wind alerts se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.

]]>
This Monday, October 28, Ibiza and Formentera will be under the effects of a DANA that threatens to leave showers and wind gusts of varying intensity. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), this situation is part of a broader weather episode, which will intensify on Tuesday 29 with the possible evolution of the DANA to a cold squall. Although the bulk of the heaviest rains are expected in the Valencian Community and Murcia, the Pitiusas could experience locally heavy showers and easterly winds that will increase throughout the day. From the afternoon onwards, weather conditions will progressively worsen, especially in the areas most exposed to the wind and humidity from the Mediterranean.

Outlook for the rest of the week

Tuesday 29 will be the most complicated day, with forecasts of strong wind and rain that could affect the islands more directly, although the greatest intensity will be concentrated in the east of the peninsula. The Aemet warns that, although Ibiza and Formentera will not be the main focus of the phenomenon, adverse episodes that affect mobility and outdoor activities on these islands are not ruled out.

Uncertainty and duration of the episode

The bad weather could last throughout the week, with episodes of rain and wind that would continue until Thursday 31 or even until Saturday, November 2, according to current models. The Aemet has warned that, given the complexity of the phenomenon, the forecasts could change in the coming days, so it recommends staying informed and taking extreme precautions. With this weather situation, the authorities recommend residents and visitors to Ibiza and Formentera to be alert to new warnings and avoid unnecessary travel during the hours of greatest instability.
