Next Wednesday, December 4, ONCE will launch a commemorative coupon that pays tribute to the 25th anniversary of the declaration of the declaration of Ibiza as World Heritage of Humanity. This recognition, granted by UNESCO in 1999, will be the protagonist of five million tickets that will circulate throughout Spain, carrying the name of the island and its cultural and natural wealth to every corner of the country. The announcement was made official at a ceremony held at the Ibiza Town Hall, with the presence of the mayor, Rafael Triguero, and the director of the ONCE Administrative Agency in Ibiza, Higinio Sanchís. During the event, Triguero underlined the role played by this coupon as a window to show the world the exceptional values that have placed the island on the map of universal heritage. According to the mayor, this type of initiative reinforces Ibiza’s commitment to protect and share its historical and natural legacy.

A legacy that transcends borders

The recognition of Ibiza by UNESCO, under the title Ibiza, Biodiversity and Culture, marked a milestone in the history of the island. Beyond being an emblematic tourist destination, Ibiza was consolidated as a benchmark in the preservation of cultural heritage and Mediterranean biodiversity. Elements such as Dalt Vila, the Phoenician-Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins, the settlement of Sa Caleta and the Posidonia oceanica meadows were key to receiving this honor. During his speech, Triguero recalled that the island belongs to the Group of World Heritage Cities and highlighted the challenge of combining the protection of these assets with universal accessibility. «We want anyone, regardless of their abilities, to be able to enjoy our heritage,» he said.
