Sant Antoni de Portmany has activated a police reinforcement during weekends and celebrations after the Local Police has detected an increasing influx of minors from different parts of the island. The increase of young people on public roads, along with several incidents in recent weeks, has led the council to strengthen controls and the presence of agents in the busiest areas.
Coordination between police, businesses and families
The Department of Public Safety, headed by Neus Mateu, held a meeting this week with the head of the Local Police, Alejandro Ponce, and representatives of entertainment venues and supermarkets in the municipality. The objective was to unify criteria and prevent risk situations, especially those related to minors during the busiest nights.
According to the area, the aim is to involve families, establishments and young people in a shared prevention and awareness-raising strategy to reinforce coexistence and reduce uncivic behavior.
Police reinforcement and control of the botellón
The new security device will be operational on weekends, holidays and mass events, and will have a group of agents coordinated by the Minors Unit. The plan will focus on the prevention of botellón, noise, vandalism and neighborhood conflicts, especially in areas where youth activity is concentrated.
The City Council points out that the operation will be “flexible and adapted to each weekend”, maintaining a preventive approach and proximity to citizens.
