Ibiza is living weeks marked by a growing sense of insecurity after a series of violent robberies that, to date, have not been solved.
In less than a month, there have been three serious robberies in different parts of the island: one in the center of Ibiza, another in Sant Antoni and a third in Cala de Bou in Sant Josep, all with a common denominator: violence, significant loot and no arrests.
70,000 euro heist
The first of the cases took place on July 8, as it advanced at the time La Voz de Ibiza.
Security guards from Prosegur, a company specialized in the transport of valuables, were the target of a silent robbery in the center of Ibiza, specifically on Avenida Bartomeu Roselló, an area known as the golden mile of the city.
The stolen loot amounted to 70,000 euros in cash from the cash registers of clothing stores in the area.
The National Police, in charge of the investigation, had confirmed to this newspaper that an investigation had been launched, but – at least to date – no arrests have been made and the details of the theft remain under strict secrecy on the part of the company and the authorities.
Violent robbery of a woman in Sant Antoni
The second event occurred on October 27 in Sant Antoni, on Menéndez Pidal street, in broad daylight.
A woman about 65 years old was tied up, beaten and robbed by two individuals wearing ski masks who surprised her after teaching remedial classes in a house.
The assailants broke into the house, pushed her inside, and after gagging her and tying her wrists with cable ties, demanded that she hand over jewelry and cash.
Upon his refusal, the victim was beaten in the face and body until he gave in.
The thieves fled with the loot without being intercepted. The woman was attended by an ambulance, while the Local Police of Sant Antoni and the Guardia Civil attended the scene.
As of today, no one has been arrested, although the City Council has confirmed that the police presence in the area has been reinforced to help identify the perpetrators and increase public safety.
Assault on a home in Cala de Bou
The third event occurred on Tuesday afternoon, November 7, in Cala de Bou, within the municipality of Sant Josep. Two people were injured during the attempted robbery of an inhabited house located in Salamanca street.
The perpetrators, at least two hooded men dressed in black, broke into the house with premeditation and managed to flee after the attack. The level of violence used caused a great commotion in the area.
The victims, a 74-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman, were taken to Can Misses Hospital for treatment of the aggressions suffered.
No arrests
So far, no arrests have been reported regarding these three serious events that have occurred in recent weeks. The National Police and the Guardia Civil have not responded to queries from La Voz de Ibiza on the progress of these investigations.
