According to what was known this morning in the trial, the defendant had a previous record for having sprayed acid on the face of an ex-partner and disfigured it. In addition, according to the investigators, the cameras captured the accused entering and leaving her home at times “compatible” with the deadly fire.
The investigating officers have testified this Wednesday in the trial with popular jury that follows in the Provincial Court of Palma against a woman accused of causing, on August 3, 2023, a fire in a house in Ibiza in which ended up dying an elderly man who was disabled and for which the prosecution claims to be sentenced to revisable permanent imprisonment for murder.
The agents of the Benemérita have stressed how lucky they were to be able to count, in addition, with the security cameras of the suspect’s home.
In these recordings, the woman was seen – the times matched before and after the notice of the fire given by a neighbor of ses Païsses to 112 – leaving and returning with different clothes and with her face covered with a veil.“She was wearing a veil so that the neighbors could not see her“, they have pointed out, insisting that the woman seen in half a hundred recordings is the accused “without any doubt”.
According to them, the“criminal hand” was clearly seen in the first inspections of the fire in the house and, although initially it was pointed to the victim’s son, this was quickly ruled out because it was confirmed that at the time of the facts he was admitted to the psychiatric area of the Hospital Can Misses.
Suspicions then fell on the accused after, on the one hand, another daughter of the victim pointed in her statements to confrontations and conflicts and, on the other hand, the psychiatrists at the hospital, who had previously treated her, pointed out the “strangeness” of the relationship she maintained with the victim’s son, whom she had “hooked and manipulated”.
One of the agents, in addition, has confirmed an extreme that a psychiatrist already pointed out in the previous session, regarding the implication of the defendant in a fire in which a person lost his life. The defendant appeared in the police records with a violent background. He had once sprayed acid on an ex-partner and disfigured her face.
Findings in the registry
All the investigations, they have pointed out, led the Benemérita to conclude that the accused left shortly after 01.00 hours on August 3, 2023 from her home hiding her face “deliberately” and hiding the bag that she would carry on her return, that she left her phones at home and that she walked to ses Païsses in a half-hour journey.
Once there, according to the agents’ account, he entered the house “without problems” knowing that the elderly were sleeping soundly. Since he knew the house, he was able to navigate it “in complete safety” and had time to change.
In the house, they added, he took some cushions, placed them next to the tank of the car he had parked in the garage and set them on fire. He then set fire to the sofa. However, the garage fire was slower than the one in the house and he left the house without waiting for the garage fire to catch fire.
Then, according to the civil guards, shereturned to her home with a change of clothes, where she arrived at about 02:00 hours after crossing paths with the fire and police teams that were on their way to the scene of the flames.
For the Guardia Civil agents, there is no doubt that the accused acted in this way as a “reprisal” against her partner’s family.
After the arrest, they added, the woman’s home was searched and the sneakers and purse seen in the videos were found. They have also emphasized that several lies that they detected in several spontaneous demonstrations to the agents.
In addition, manipulative conversations with her partner, the victim’s son, in which she tried to accuse the caregiver, were found on the cell phones.
The Jury Court of the Provincial Court holds from Monday the trial against a woman for allegedly setting a fire in a house where two elderly people she was taking care of were sleeping, one of whom died, in August 2023 in Ibiza.
She is charged with one count of murder and one count of arson and the prosecution requests that she be sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, at the time of the events one of the elderly was a totally dependent person, was unable to leave the property and died.
