Formentera has held this Wednesday, November 20, the second Local Security Board of 2025, a key meeting in which the data of the last tourist season, the operation of the emergency forces and the needs of interagency coordination were analyzed. The session, chaired by Óscar Portas, concluded with a very favorable assessment of security on the island.
“The coordination maintained throughout the year has been decisive in ensuring a safer environment and more efficient operations,” Portas stressed, highlighting the reduction of crimes and the effectiveness of new specific units of both the Local Police and the Civil Guard.
Police reinforcement and fight against street vending
During the meeting, the actions of the night unit and the agents deployed on the beaches were highlighted, whose work has been fundamental in combating street vending, especially during the months with the highest number of tourists. According to the island’s president, these actions have made it possible to reinforce surveillance in sensitive areas and improve the response to risk situations.
In addition, Portas thanked the reinforcement of the Civil Guard and the National Police in the management of irregular immigration, despite regretting that Formentera still does not have the first aid service of the Red Cross.
“Security in Formentera is a shared responsibility,” said Portas, stressing the importance of institutional cooperation.
Vandalism in Sant Ferran and coordination for emergencies
Another of the key points addressed at the meeting was the concern about the acts of vandalism registered in Sant Ferran in recent months. The Consell and the insular director of the State, Raquel Guasch, agreed on the need for the Local Police and the Civil Guard to continue working together.
Guasch also confirmed that the reinforcement of Guardia Civil agents in the waters of the Pitiusas will be maintained at least until March 2026, and not May as erroneously reported in the previous version.
