More than 50 students participate in the Ibiza Children’s Plenary Session: these are the issues they put on the table

A total of 52 students from four schools in the municipality of Ibiza have participated this Friday in the Children’s Plenary Session of the City Council, held in Can Botino. This initiative seeks to give a voice to the children of the municipality, promoting their participation in local democratic life and collecting proposals that could be incorporated into municipal policies.

During the plenary, the students presented 15 proposals developed in class, after working on the didactic unit ‘Our proposals for the City of Eivissa’. The topics addressed revolved around youth, leisure and free time, environment, urban cleanliness, educational and preventive programs, social welfare, use of municipal facilities, culture, sports, public roads or the role of the local police.

“We will study all your proposals with the competent areas,” said the mayor of Ibiza, Rafael Triguero, who opened the session along with the Councillor for Education, Catiana Fuster, and the Councillor for the Environment, Jordi Grivé.

Active participation of schools

The Children’s Plenary is part of the educational program ‘Our proposals for the City of Eivissa’, which students have worked in their respective centers before coming to the plenary hall.

In total, they have intervened:

• 13 students of CEIP Poeta Villangómez

• 17 of the College of Consolation

• 14 of CEIP Portal Nou

• 8 of CEIP Can Misses

The proposals submitted by the children have addressed in a structured and creative way issues such as the need for more leisure spaces, environmental awareness campaigns, improvements in sports facilities and greater attention to the social welfare of children.

The day concluded with an institutional thanks to teachers, students and the technical team of Youth and Education, whose work has allowed the development of the event. From the consistory remember that this activity reaffirms the commitment of the municipality with children, within the framework of the Child Friendly City initiative.

“These dynamics foster knowledge of the functioning of institutions and civic engagement from an early age,” Triguero stressed in his closing remarks.
