Formentera chains two new arrivals of pateras and Balearic Islands now has 277 immigrants in 24 hours

The arrival of small boats in the Balearic Islands continues at a relentless pace. This Wednesday, two new boats located in Formentera have significantly raised the balance of irregular migration in the last 24 hours. First, at 07.07 hours, 17 people of North African origin were intercepted on the road to Pilar de la Mola, after having previously disembarked on the island. Subsequently, at 08.40 hours, another group of 14 migrants, also North African, was located in the same area.

With these two interventions, the count now stands at 106 migrants rescued this Wednesday in the archipelago as a whole, spread over five boats detected in Formentera, Cabrera and Mallorca.

Wednesday’s operations are in addition to those registered on Tuesday, when ten boats with 171 people on board arrived at different points of the Balearic Islands. In total, between Tuesday and Wednesday, the number of people intercepted amounted to 277 migrants, according to data from the Government Delegation.

Most of those rescued are males of Maghrebi or sub-Saharan origin. After their location by Salvamento Marítimo, Guardia Civil or land patrols, the migrants are being transferred to police stations for identification and the implementation of the protocols established in the Immigration Law.
