Each citizen of the Balearic Islands will spend this year 42.94 euros in tickets for the Extraordinary Draw of the Christmas Lottery 2025, a figure much lower than the national average, located at 76.08 euros per inhabitant, according to the data of appropriation per inhabitant of Loterías y Apuestas del Estado (LAE).
Thus, the Balearic Islands is among the autonomous communities with the lowest expected expenditure per person, only above the autonomous cities of Melilla (17.32 euros) and Ceuta (19.10 euros). The Canary Islands (47.24 euros), Catalonia (57.06 euros) and Navarre (58.62 euros) also have low figures, according to data compiled by Europa Press.
At the other extreme, Castilla y León leads the ranking of per capita expenditure, with an average of 121.28 euros, followed by Asturias (119.67 euros), La Rioja (113.96 euros), Aragón (102.15 euros) and Cantabria (101.98 euros). Also above the national average are the Basque Country (87.43 euros), Castilla-La Mancha (86.47 euros), the Community of Madrid (85.19 euros), the Community of Valencia (85.17 euros) and Galicia (83.29 euros).
Balearic Islands, among the regions with the lowest total appropriations
In absolute terms, the Balearic Islands is also among the communities with the lowest total appropriation for Christmas Lottery, with 52.45 million euros planned for this year. Only Melilla (1.48 million), Ceuta (1.58 million), La Rioja (36.97 million) and Navarra (39.76 million) have lower figures.
On the other hand, Madrid leads the total appropriation with 596.45 million euros, followed by Andalusia (552.05 million), Catalonia (458.44 million) and the Valencian Community (452.82 million). Castilla y León (289.65 million) and Galicia (225.16 million) also stand out among the regions with the highest expected sales volume.
More than 76 euros on average in Spain
Nationally, each Spaniard will spend an estimated average of 76.08 euros in 2025, up from 73.84 euros the previous year. This figure is an estimate, as the final figure will be known once the returns of unsold tickets are counted after the lottery campaign.
As LAE explained during the presentation of the advertising campaign, held on November 12 at the Real Casa de la Moneda in Madrid, the calculation is based on the initial consignment of tickets to the lottery administrations, although each year a portion of the tickets end up unsold.
A sweepstakes with more prizes than ever
The Extraordinary Christmas Lottery Draw 2025, to be held on December 22 at the Teatro Real in Madrid, will distribute a total of 2,772 million euros in prizes, 70 million more than in the previous edition.
This year 198 million tickets have been put on sale, corresponding to 198 series of 100,000 numbers, which brings the total issue to 3,960 million euros. Seventy percent of this amount will be destined to prizes, maintaining the traditional structure of the lottery.
The first prize, the popular Christmas Gordo, will distribute 4 million euros per series, while the second prize amounts to 1,250,000 euros per series and the third prize to 500,000 euros. Completing the distribution are two fourth prizes of 200,000 euros per series and eight fifth prizes of 60,000 euros per series.
