The Leisure Association of Ibiza and Formentera has delivered 25,000 euros to Caritas Ibiza as part of its Christmas campaign, a contribution that adds to an overall volume of aid of 3.6 million euros from the island’s nightlife sector, according to data made public by the association.
The donation was approved at the last assembly of the association, which is made up of 36 establishments and is financed exclusively through membership dues. This contribution is part of the Caritas campaign “Let’s ensure that having a decent life is no longer a matter of luck”, promoted in the middle of the Christmas season.
3.6 million of associated leisure in 2025
The Asociación Ocio de Ibiza y Formentera expects the solidarity actions of its premises to reach 3.6 million euros by 2025, destined for social, cultural, sports and environmental projects on the island.
This figure includes sponsorships as well as direct donations and the organization of solidarity events, a line of collaboration that the entity has maintained for eleven years.
The president of Ocio de Ibiza, Jesús Sainz, stressed that “the needs are many and the resources are always insufficient”, highlighting the importance of financially supporting entities such as Caritas to combat poverty and social exclusion in Ibiza.
Economic impact and employment
In addition to the solidarity contributions, the 36 establishments associated with Ocio de Ibiza generate 4,200 direct jobs and 700 indirect jobs, figures that, according to the entity, certify the weight of the leisure and entertainment sector within the economic and social fabric of the island.
Ocio de Ibiza stresses the importance of financially supporting the work carried out by Caritas to maintain and strengthen services aimed at combating poverty and social exclusion on the island.
“This new donation is a sign of the sector’s commitment to an entity whose work is essential. We are aware that the needs are many and the resources are always insufficient,” said the president of Ocio de Ibiza, Jesús Sainz.
For his part, the director of Caritas, Joan Torres, said that “the involvement of Ibizan companies in helping those most in need is a sign of social commitment and a repeated request of Caritas in Ibiza”.
The manager of the Asociación Ocio de Ibiza y Formentera, José Luis Benítez, also stressed the collective responsibility of collaborating with this type of initiative and encouraged other companies and entities to join in supporting Cáritas. “Behind their work there are many families in need, a great effort on the part of volunteers and professionals, and educational, social and labor projects that require all the economic help possible to move forward. I take this opportunity to encourage individuals and companies in Ibiza to collaborate with Cáritas Ibiza”, he added.
The manager also recalled that, for eleven years, the premises associated with Ocio de Ibiza have been collaborating on an ongoing basis with social, cultural, sports and environmental entities on the island through sponsorships, donations and the organization of solidarity events. Altogether, these actions will reach 3.6 million euros in 2025, a figure that the association expects to continue to increase in the coming years.
Cáritas attended 3,000 people in Ibiza
During the ceremony, the director of Caritas Ibiza, recalled that this year the organization has served about 3,000 people on the island, offering 80 meals a day to people without resources, in addition to social support programs, employment and shelter for immigrants.
Caritas not only distributes food, but develops a comprehensive care that requires professional staff and a significant economic effort, explained Torres, who stressed the steady increase in social needs in Ibiza.
More than one million for sports in Sant Josep
The impact of the sector also extends to the sports field. The mayor of Sant Josep, Vicent Roig, stated during the International Nightlife Congress held in Valencia that the municipality’s leisure venues participate in more than one million euros in funding to clubs and sporting events, both nationally and internationally.
“Without that funding it would not be possible to maintain key sporting events at the beginning and end of the season, which are fundamental for the deseasonalization,” Roig told La Voz de IbizaRoig told La Voz de Ibiza, highlighting the importance of the leisure sector in the economy and the sports calendar of the municipality.
