An eviction procedure is being carried out at this time in Santa Eulària, more precisely in a house located at Es Novells 55, where a woman of about 50 years old is illegally occupying part of the land. The operation is led by the company “antiokupa” APD Security Iberia, which specializes in evictions of all types of properties and whose staff has arrived at the house last Saturday. “The tenant who gave her part of the property has asked us for help and here we are. Our job is to exert pressure and we are prepared for a violent situation if it arises, but we cannot act outside the law.” The company has also had contact with the local police and the Guardia Civil since Saturday when they arrived in Ibiza.
“The land is a mess.”
According to photos and videos accessed by La Voz de Ibiza, the common ground shared by the dwellings is in an unsanitary condition, c with accumulated garbage bags and decomposing food debris.
“The land is a mess,” Plana assured this media outlet, and also mentioned that this situation generated clear tension with the neighbors. “The squatting woman has threatened an elderly 93-year-old neighbor who lives across the street, has broken the tenant’s security camera and has even glued cell phones to her windows to film what is going on outside.”
“We have told her ‘you are going to leave alone, you are going to leave today, tomorrow or in a month, but you are going to leave because the house is not yours’,” said Antonio Plana, director of APD Security Iberia, to La Voz de Ibiza. According to the company’s account, the owner of the house rented it to a woman of Argentinean nationality with her two daughters, and this one, as a gesture of help, has lodged another Argentinean named Mariana. “They met in the street markets, working in the preparation and distribution of food to the locals. The squatter had nowhere to go and she wanted to help him. They made a verbal arrangement of which the owner is also aware,” said Plana.
The land includes, in addition to the main house where the tenant lives with her daughters, a warehouse, a hut (where the squatter stays) and outdoor areas such as a bathroom and a kitchen. The company’s staff stayed in the warehouse area, which has a room with mattresses for the night: “We gave the squatter an easement so that she can enter and leave the land from the side, but she obviously doesn’t like us being here. She says the kitchen and bathroom are hers, she even accused us of stealing from her,” said Plana.
