The mayoress of Santa EulàriaCarmen Ferrer, together with the manager of the Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency (Abaqua), Emeterio Moles, visited this Thursday the renovation works of the east branch of the desalinated water pipeline in Ibiza. This project, key to improving the island’s water supply, has a budget of 1.34 million euros and a completion period of three months. During the visit, Ferrer highlighted the importance of this intervention to guarantee a stable supply, especially in seasons of high demand. The renovation includes the replacement of 1,400 meters of pipes that connect the Can Guasch reservoir, in Santa Eulària, with the network that integrates the desalination plants of Ibiza and Sant Antoni.

A more reliable and efficient network

The main objective of the project is to solve the recurring problems of failures that have affected supply in previous years. To this end, the new pipelines are manufactured with materials of greater structural resistance and have an enlarged diameter, which will improve both the transport capacity and the reliability of the network. In addition, provisions have been incorporated for a future expansion of the Santa Eulària desalination plant, thus reinforcing the water infrastructure for the island’s future needs.

Strategic planning

One of the conditions established for this work was to have all the necessary material available before starting the works, in order to avoid delays caused by weather conditions or logistical problems. During the duration of the works, the transfer of water from the Santa Eulària desalination plant to the rest of the island will be temporarily interrupted. This period will also be used to carry out preventive maintenance work on the installation.
