Wednesday’s visit of the president of the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands, Javier Sanz, to Formentera resulted in the confirmation of the news that actually everyone expected: the marina of the port of La Savina will be managed by a single company for a period of 25 years. End of the debate. In reality, the appointment was a mere formality and the response to the request of the opposition, however, far from assuming that the Port Authority is sovereign in the port area and its responsibility to manage it wants to involve the Consell d’Entitats in a debate that does not really exist in the port community. The movements of the APB and the previous statements of Sanz left no room for doubt or political debate, curiously, after the press conference in which the president of Formentera, Llorenç Córdoba, revealed the details of his complaint to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the subsequent investigation by the UCO.
The future of La Savina
Accompanied by the president himself and the only Sa Unió councilor who remains in the government as a member of the APB Board of Directors by appointment of the Plenary of the Consell, Artal Mayans, Sanz met with representatives of Sa Unió, Gent per Formentera and PSOE. In declarations collected by Periódico de Ibiza, the socialist Ana Juan confirmed the news, advanced by La Voz de Ibiza, that there will be a single concession. Next December 9 is scheduled the Board of Directors in which the bases will be approved and the details of the proposal for the future will be known.
Two concessions: bad business
In the exclusive interview published on Wednesday by La Voz de Ibiza, Cordoba admitted that“the port of La Savina has always worked badly with two concessions”. Although Port Authority had warned him that “one concession” is “the best solution” in the letter sent to the entity after a Board of Spokesmen with Sa Unió, GxF and PSOE requested two. “One thing is my personal opinion,” he clarified. “Long-term concessions and allow investments, as I was approached by Port Authority, I saw it very logical and with more future and feasible to gather everything in a single marina. A place where there is only one captain, only one boatswain, you only have to pay insurance for the boats. A place where all the permits you have to do are given by one person.
