A scam attempt against Ibiza cab drivers has started circulating this week with a text message, claiming a special payment to keep the license active.
A message started to arrive on drivers’ cell phones warning about “technical problems with your license. Necessary to regularize”. This was accompanied by the link conselleivissa.org/licencias-taxis, which is not part of the official site of the Consell, With the logo of the Consell de Ibiza, some grammatical errors and a duplicate website of the institution, the scammers seek to deceive the holders of cab licenses on the island. When entering, they find the following message that may generate some fear in cab drivers to achieve their criminal task: “Dear driver, we inform you that, due to a technical problem our servers, it is necessary to make a payment for the renewal of your cab license, although it is currently in force. This payment will be refunded automatically once the active status of your license is confirmed”. To do so, the scammers request a “bank transfer of 250 euros to the following IBAN: ES7802250100550065463127″. In the transfer concept cab drivers must write their cab license plate number and their ID card. Different agencies have warned their clients that this is basically a scam. Meanwhile, the Consell has confirmed to La Voz de Ibiza that the maneuver has been reported to the National Police, in addition to “letting cab drivers know that it is obviously a scam”.
