The Consell de Govern Balear has given the go-ahead this Friday to the expansion project of the IES Marc Ferrer de Formentera, a work that seeks to improve the island’s educational facilities. The works, with a budget of 1,429,251 euros and a completion period of 12 months, have been declared of regional interest.
More space for technical and practical education
The expansion includes the construction of eight new classrooms, two of which will be used as specialized workshops for the technical and practical training of students. The project includes an increase of 650 square meters in the surface area of the institute, located on the second floor of the east wing of the building. The design will follow the existing structure, with a central corridor and classrooms distributed on both sides, as well as including a protected staircase and an elevator that will connect the semi-basement floor with the second floor, ensuring accessibility to all facilities.
A step forward for education in Formentera
IES Marc Ferrer, located in Sant Francesc, is the only secondary school on the island, which makes this expansion key to meeting the needs of the growing student community. The Balearic Government has emphasized that this work will not only improve the center’s capacity, but will also strengthen the technical and practical educational offer in Formentera, a fundamental aspect for the academic and professional development of the young residents of the island.
