Within the framework of FITUR 2025the Be Blue project, led by Insotel Marine Group (IMG) and with the collaboration of Trasmapi, Menorca Lines and Formentera Lines, was presented as an exemplary model of sustainability and marine conservation. During the exhibition, the progress achieved in 2024 was celebrated and ambitious goals for this year were revealed, with a focus on restoring and protecting the Posidonia oceanica meadows, a key ecosystem for the Balearic Sea.
A year of achievements: 24,000 Posidonia plants restored
In 2024, Be Blue reached an important milestone with the planting of 24,000 Posidonia plants in the waters of Ibiza and Formentera, thanks to the leadership of renowned marine biologist Manu San Félix. During his speech at FITUR, San Félix stressed that this work not only contributes to environmental balance, but also positions the Balearic Islands as a global benchmark in marine sustainability initiatives. “Restoring Posidonia meadows is not only an act of conservation, but an essential step to ensure the health of our seas and combat climate change. Thanks to the commitment of our allied companies and the fact that every ticket contributes to this project, we have achieved exceptional results that motivate us to move forward,” said San Félix to an expectant audience.
Ambitious targets for 2025
With the slogan “Make your trip count”, Be Blue aims to expand its impact by 2025, with the goal of planting between 30,000 and 50,000 Posidonia plants, an unprecedented effort in the Mediterranean. This commitment responds to the urgent need to halt the loss of this vital ecosystem, which has seen 34% of its surface area disappear in recent decades. San Felix emphasized the importance of collaborative work: “Despite the challenges, ambition and unity are key to reversing the damage caused. If we continue to work together, we can give the Mediterranean back the life it deserves.”
Beyond Posidonia: complementary projects
Be Blue not only focuses on Posidonia restoration. It also supports initiatives such as Reserva 30 del Mediterráneo, a project that seeks to establish marine protection zones to encourage the recovery of marine fauna. This holistic approach reflects Insotel Marine Group’ s commitment to biodiversity and sustainability, and seeks to inspire other entities to replicate these efforts in their territories.
