The squall Herminia keeps Ibiza and Formentera on alert, where the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated the yellow warning for wind gusts of up to 70 km / h and coastal phenomena with waves up to 3 meters. The alert will be in force from the morning of Tuesday 28 until the early hours of Wednesday, January 29.
Intense wind and rough sea in the Pitiusas islands
According to the AEMET forecast, the prevailing winds will be from the west, reaching its highest intensity in areas exposed to the sea. In addition, on the coast of Ibiza and Formentera a storm with sustained winds of 50 to 60 km / h (force 7) and strong waves is expected, which can generate dangerous conditions for navigation. The alert also affects the Serra de Tramuntana in Mallorca and could extend to localities located downwind, such as Alaró, Selva, Mancor and Campanet. In the highest areas of the mountain range, gusts could reach 100 km/h.
Herminia hits hard in Spain
Ibiza and Formentera are not the only ones affected by the storm Herminia. Fourteen autonomous communities remain on alert this Tuesday due to the effects of the storm. In Galicia and the Cantabrian coast, AEMET has activated the red level for waves up to 12 meters and extremely strong coastal winds. In the interior of the peninsula, snow and wind are causing complications in several provinces of Castilla y León, Navarra and Aragón. In the south, Almeria and Granada maintain the orange alert for strong gusts of wind and waves of 4 meters.
