The IES Marc Ferrer of Formentera will take a step forward in its educational infrastructure with the expansion approved by the Consell de Govern.
The investment, which amounts to 2.3 million euros, will improve the center’s capacity with the addition of eight new classrooms, two of which will be used for technical and practical training workshops.
The objective of this action is to respond to the growing demand for schooling on the island and to replace the modular classrooms that have served as a temporary solution in recent years. With this expansion, the aim is to offer a more suitable environment adapted to the needs of the students.
A new space for education in Formentera
The project includes a 649.83 square meter expansion on the second floor of the east wing of the existing building. The layout will follow the design of the institute, with a central corridor and classrooms arranged on both sides, maintaining harmony with the existing structure.
In addition, the refurbishment will include the installation of a vertical communication core with a protected staircase and an elevator, which will connect the semi-basement floor with the second floor, improving the accessibility of the center.
The Department of Education has highlighted the importance of this expansion, noting that it will not only meet the current demand, but will also contribute to improving teaching conditions on the island, offering students a more modern and functional environment.
Twelve months of work to transform the institute
The works, which will have an execution period of 12 months, will mark a before and after in the educational infrastructure of Formentera.
With this investment, the Government reaffirms its commitment to the improvement of schools in the Balearic Islands, betting on spaces adapted to current needs and leaving behind temporary solutions such as modular classrooms.
