Gabriel Escarrer, grandson of the emblematic Mallorcan hotelier Gabriel Escarrer Julià and heir to one of the most influential business sagas in Spanish tourism, has surprised with a professional twist that has nothing to do with the hotel business. The young entrepreneur has broken into the technological field with Gifted IQ, a mobile application conceived as an exclusive social network for people with high intellectual abilities and entrepreneurs.
“I am Gabriel Escarrer, some of you may know who I am and some of you may not. I simply wanted to welcome you to Gifted IQ”, he begins by saying in the promotional video with which he presents the initiative. Despite still being in an initial phase, the platform already has more than 1,000 registered users, according to its own data.

A community reserved for those who pass an intelligence test
Gifted IQ defines itself as a “meritocratic, stimulating and purposeful” environment, designed for so-called brilliant minds to collaborate, share ideas and connect with companies interested in high-level talent. However, it is not a network open to the general public: access is conditional on passing a cognitive test and obtaining more than 120 points, according to the official website.
Escarrer argues that the application was born out of the need to “stop being hypocritical” about unequal opportunities. “We realized that there were people who had more opportunities than others. And so we decided to stop being hypocritical,” he says, defending the platform’s selective approach.
Although his surname is inevitably linked to the hotel giant Meliá, Gabriel Escarrer has built a profile of his own in the financial and technological sphere. He has worked as an investment analyst in large international corporations, has a degree in Business Studies and Economics from Loughborough Business School (UK) and has attended various finance programs at Oxford University.
Now it is going one step further with this startup that seeks to position itself as an exclusive meeting point between companies and professionals with high abilities, a project with which it intends, as it says, to promote an ecosystem in which “exceptional talents find their place”.
