Manuel Ramon Mas will conduct the Symphonic Band of the City of Ibiza on the occasion of the benefit concert for Santa Cecilia (patron saint of musicians) to be held this Saturday 23, at 7 pm, in Can Ventosa. The proceeds from the tickets will go entirely to the AFAEF (the Alzheimer’s Association of Ibiza and Formentera). The City of Ibiza Choir, which this year has celebrated its 30th anniversary, will also perform. In addition, between November 18 and 22 small concerts will be offered by the students of the Can Ventosa Music School in various establishments in the city:
- Day 18, at 7 pm, the string and percussion students will perform at Esplai Can Ventosa.
- On the 19th, at 6 p.m., the wind and brass students will perform in Room 1 of the Patronato de Música.
- On the 20th, the flute and jazz students will perform two concerts in Room 1 of the Patronato de Música, the first at 4:30 pm and the second at 6:00 pm.
- Day 21, at 17.30, the oboe and clarinet students will perform in classroom 3 of the Can Ventosa Cultural Center (entrance on Pere Francès street).
- Day 22 will be a different proposal. From 17.00 there will be a parade of the School Band that will depart from Can Ventosa and reach the Paseo de Vara de Rey. On the way back, they will perform two pieces and will give way to the performance of the Children’s and Youth Hearts and the Saxophone Ensemble.
On Saturday, November 23 at 19.00 at the Espai Cultural Can Ventosa, the music will continue to sound, this time at the hands (and voices) of the BSCE and the CCE, in this case directed by Manuel Ramon Mas, former director of the Patronato de Música and Gold Medal of the City of Ibiza in 2023. Ramon Mas is a key figure to understand the great development of teaching and musical activity in Ibiza in the last decade of the twentieth century and the first decade of the twenty-first century. His influence, linked to his role as director of the Patronato Municipal de Música de Ibiza for 23 years (1990-2013) can be seen in three ways: as director of the Banda Ciudad de Ibiza, as promoter of the Escuela del Patronato de Música de Ibiza and as a cultural promoter, encouraging the creation of other musical groups. To attend the concert on November 23rd it will be necessary to purchase tickets, each for 5 euros, which will be available from November 18th at the following points (no online sales):
- Monday 18th: at the headquarters of the Alzheimer’s Association of Ibiza and Formentera (AFAEF) from 10 am to 1 pm.
- Wednesday 20, Thursday 21 and Friday 22: at the Patronato de Música from 18.30 to 20.30.
- Saturday, 23rd: from 6 pm at Espai Cultural Can Ventosa.
The Mayor of the capital of Ibiza, Rafael Triguero, attended last week one of the rehearsals of the Choir and Symphonic Band and said: “It is exciting to see Manuel Ramon Mas with the baton and see from the inside how a concert of these characteristics as this Santa Cecilia concert is organized. The involvement of the members of the Choir and the Band is admirable and I am sure that this Sunday they will make us vibrate with an unrepeatable concert”.
