The Consell de Ibiza has awarded the works for the construction of a new traffic circle at the entrance to the town of Sant Josepat kilometer 11.9 of the EI-700 road. The contract, which amounts to 754,295.03 euros excluding VAT, has been awarded to the joint venture formed by Tecnologia de la Construcción y Obras Públicas S.A. and Hermanos Parrot, S.A. The project, which will be developed at a currently conflictive intersection between the road and Avenida Diputado Josep Ribas, aims to improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians. Key municipal facilities such as the Urgell school, the municipal swimming pool and the soccer field are located in this area, which generates a significant flow of traffic. The new traffic circle is expected to significantly reduce the speed of vehicles crossing this point, eliminating one of the most dangerous intersections in the area.
A step towards traffic reorganization
The first vice-president and councilor of Xarxa Viària, Mariano Juan, has pointed out that this work will also be an initial step towards a future reorganization of traffic in the urban center of Sant Josep. Medium-term plans include the construction of a second traffic circle at the opposite end of the village, within the reform project of the road that connects Sant Josep with Sant Antoni. This measure will reorganize the turns and eliminate the current traffic jams in the center of the municipality, thus pacifying the impact of road traffic. The Consell’s forecast is that the work will begin in early 2025, marking an important step forward in the improvement of Sant Josep’s road infrastructure. This project is part of a broader plan to ensure safer and more efficient mobility on the island.
