The Balearic Government has launched the 46th promotion of the Basic Training Course of the Local Police category, with the participation of 93 applicants selected after passing the opposition phase. The future agents will be trained during the next months at the Balearic School of Public Administration (EBAP) with the aim of joining the police forces of different municipalities of Mallorca and Ibiza. Ibiza from May 2025. The course, officially inaugurated at the headquarters of the EBAP, was presented by Violeta Rodríguez, director of the school, together with the general director of Public Function, Antoni Mesquida, and other representatives. The training is divided into two groups: one made up of 51 candidates assigned to the City Council of Palma, and another with 42 students assigned to municipalities of the Part Forana de Mallorca, Ibiza and a bag of approved candidates without a place.
Key reinforcement for the tourist season
The 800-hour training program includes training in areas such as traffic regulation, citizen attention, legal fundamentals and digital skills. Once completed, the candidates will go on to a period of evaluable practices in their respective municipalities, coinciding with the start of the summer season, when the demand for security on the islands increases significantly. According to the Conselleria de Presidencia y Administraciones Públicas, this initiative responds to a historical need of the city councils to cover vacancies and reinforce the staff during the months of greater tourist affluence. In addition, from the Conselleria they emphasize that these actions are part of an overall strategy to ensure the quality and efficiency of public safety services in the Balearic Islands.
A step towards police modernization
For the first time, the teaching staff of the course has new professionals from the chiefs of the Part Forana, which seeks to enrich the training to include diversity of operational and local experiences. In addition, those applicants who did not obtain a place in this phase will become part of a single bag that will allow municipalities to cover urgent needs in their police forces. The formation of this promotion reflects the effort to modernize and organize the police selection processes in the Balearic Islands, attending to the demands of the municipalities and the security needs of the citizens. With their incorporation in May, the islands will receive a significant reinforcement at a key moment of the year.
