The City Council of Ibiza has launched a new campaign to promote the spaying and neutering and microchipping of cats in the municipality, in line with the provisions of the Animal Welfare Law 7/2023. This initiative seeks to reduce the population of stray cats, promoting responsible ownership and facilitating citizens’ access to veterinary services through financial assistance.
Promotion of spaying/neutering and conditions of support
The measure includes the castration of 150 cats, with a contribution of 100 euros for each procedure. To benefit from this aid, owners must present a census certificate proving their residence in Ibiza and ensure that the cat is microchipped as a mandatory requirement. This process, which in local clinics has an average cost of between 200 and 250 euros, will be more accessible thanks to this grant. Four veterinary clinics in the municipality have joined forces to carry out these interventions. These include Ibican, on Avenida de la Paz; Vidal y Pereyra, on Vía Romana; Eivivet, on Navarra street; and Vila Veterinaris, on Canonge Joan Planells street. Each one will offer the service within its capabilities, allowing owners to go to the center of their confidence to perform the procedures.
Care of cat colonies
The campaign is complemented with the actions that the Consistory already carries out for the castration of cats from feline colonies. In collaboration with the San Jorge clinic, the concessionaire of the Animal Protection Center of Sa Coma, about 800 cats belonging to these colonies have been spayed or neutered to date. Soon, these animals will also be microchipped, reinforcing their identification and care.
