The Ibiza Town Hall has begun work on the expansion of the Can Cantó school, a project that seeks to transform this educational space to accommodate more children and offer better services to families in the municipality. This Monday, the mayor of Eivissa, Rafael Triguero, laid the first stone of the project, awarded to the company Tecnología de la Construcción y Obras Públicas (TECOPSA) for more than 3.7 million euros.

More classrooms and functional spaces

The Can Cantó kindergarten, which currently has a capacity for 55 children from 0 to 3 years old, will double its capacity with the construction of five new classrooms equipped with bathrooms and covered porches, as well as a dining room, play areas, multipurpose room, offices and changing rooms for the staff. The project also contemplates a partial renovation of the existing building to optimize its use.

“With this expansion, we continue to move towards an inclusive city with greater opportunities for families, guaranteeing public and accessible education from early childhood,” highlighted Mayor Triguero during the opening ceremony.

European funds for quality public education

The project will be carried out thanks to mixed funding including €844,200 from the Ministry of Education and the European Union-Next Generation EU program, under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The works, which begin this week, will last until December 2025. This effort, according to the consistory, responds to the need to expand the educational offer for children in Ibiza, in line with the commitment to guarantee modern infrastructures adapted to the demands of the population.
