CCOO (Comisiones Obreras) has suspended the indefinite strike called for December 23 and successive days in the road passenger transport sector, which affected all companies in the urban, interurban, regular, discretional and tourist bus sector. According to the union, the official notification of the suspension was registered in the Government’s Registry Interconnection System.
This strike was the last one after the mobilizations called on December 5 and 9, since CCOO was the only union that maintained its position in favor of the stoppage. With a 40% representation in the sector, CCOO justified the strike to demand the early retirement of bus drivers due to the risks inherent in their profession. Meanwhile, other unions such as UGT and the Sindicato Libre de Transporte (SLT) reached agreements with the employers’ associations Confebus and Atuc, calling off their mobilizations. For its part, the CGT union also withdrew its call after granting a period of time to verify compliance with the agreements reached with the employers of freight and passenger transport. CCOO defended that the basis of their claim is in a technical-scientific report prepared in 2012, which shows that this profession meets the requirements to access the system of reducing coefficients, allowing early retirement by the nature of the activity. In addition, they stressed that this measure is the result of tripartite agreements derived from social dialogue, underlining the importance of continuing to work in this direction to improve working conditions in the sector.
