The City Council of Santa Eulària des Riu has taken a step towards the modernization of mobility with the installation of sensors in 323 regulated parking spaces, allowing an intelligent and real-time management of available spaces. This project, co-financed by European Funds, seeks to promote economic activity in the municipality and improve the experience of residents and visitors. According to the Consistory, the spaces will be distributed in three main areas: the commercial sector, which includes the promenade and downtown cafes (134 spaces: 40 green and 94 blue), the downtown sector (76 spaces: 52 green and 24 blue) and the Tres Torres area (113 spaces: 64 green and 49 blue).
Mobility improvements and environmental benefits
The technology implemented will provide real-time information on the availability of parking spaces through mobile applications. This will allow drivers to reduce the time spent looking for parking, minimizing traffic jams, fossil fuel consumption and polluting emissions. The Councilor for Economic Promotion, Finance and Economy, Miguel Tur, highlighted the dual objectives of the initiative: “To optimize urban mobility by facilitating the quick location of parking spaces and improve the quality of life of residents and visitors, while boosting vehicle rotation and favoring local commerce.
Connection to the Open Mall
The installation of sensors is part of the Santa Eulària Open Commercial Center project, a comprehensive urban development plan focused on the revitalization of commerce and sustainability. This technological system will allow segmenting the use of the squares between residents and visitors, favoring an efficient use of public space. The initiative is aligned with the sustainability objectives established by the European Union, betting on a more accessible and environmentally friendly city model.
