The port of Sant Antoni is in the process of transformation. This Thursday, the Conselleria del Mar y del Ciclo del Agua, through PortsIB, has started the works to replace pontoons 3, 5 and 7, with an investment of 879,986 euros and an execution period of six months. This project responds to the need to modernize a fundamental infrastructure for the nautical and tourist activity of Ibiza, ensuring a safer and more operational port.
A necessary renovation
With years of intensive use, the current pontoons are in an advanced state of deterioration. According to PortsIB, the main objective of this work is to replace the floating and associated infrastructures that no longer meet safety and functionality standards. The work includes the complete removal of the existing modules and their elements, such as supply turrets, water and electricity networks, as well as access stairs.
In their place, new pontoons will be installed, equipped with advanced technology, such as modern turrets for the supply of basic services and renovated networks, ensuring an efficient and sustainable use of resources. These upgrades will not only improve operability, but also provide a safer and more accessible environment for users.
A project that looks to the future
The investment in the port of Sant Antoni is part of a broader strategic plan to revitalize the entire port area and its surroundings. In addition to the work on the pontoons, the Govern already has other initiatives underway, such as the renovation of Passeig de la Mar, a project valued at more than one million euros that seeks to update the paving and harmonize the coastal aesthetics. According to PortsIB, these actions are essential to ensure that Sant Antoni continues to be a benchmark in the nautical and tourism sector of the Balearic Islands, especially on an island like Ibiza, where the connection between sea and land is vital to its economy and culture.
The key to nautical sustainability
The port of Sant Antoni not only adapts to current needs, but also aims for a more sustainable future. The modernization of port infrastructure is aligned with the environmental priorities of the Government, which seeks to promote efficient and responsible management of resources in all ports of the community. The Department of the Sea and Water Cycle emphasizes that this intervention will not only improve the user experience, but will also strengthen the role of the port as an essential pillar for the island’ s economic and social activity. The works are expected to be completed by mid-2024, at which time the port of Sant Antoni will have completely renovated infrastructures, capable of responding to the demands of the present and the future.
