The Ibiza Town Hall has initiated the procedures to transform two commercial premises in the Sa Penya neighborhood into subsidized housing. Located at number 18 and 20 carrer Retir, these spaces will be converted into two one-bedroom apartments as part of the Municipal Housing Plan Ibiza, una ciutat per viure-hi. This initiative seeks to address the growing housing crisis in the city and take advantage of existing infrastructures to give them a new social use.

The two commercial premises, which will now be refurbished, will be destined for conversion into subsidized housing that has not yet been assigned a specific use.
According to data provided by the City Council, these works are part of a set of measures aimed at mitigating the problems of access to housing. The project is currently in the public bidding phase, and interested parties can consult the details on the State Contracting portal.
More subsidized housing on the way
The Municipal Housing Plan includes other ongoing projects, such as the remodeling of the building located in Sa Drassaneta square, currently known as Fablab. This space will be reconverted into three additional protected housing units and three emergency housing beds. In addition, the City Council continues to work on the identification and habilitation of other municipal spaces that can be used for public housing.
A comprehensive strategy against the housing crisis
Since the presentation of the Municipal Housing Plan in June, the council has made progress on several lines of work to expand the supply of subsidized housing in the city. These measures seek not only to mitigate the impact of the housing crisis, but also to take advantage of the maximum available municipal resources.
