The Ibiza Town Hall has launched a new measure to improve waste management in the city: the installation of two “mini clean points” strategically located in the Mercat Nou and the Plaza de Sa Colomina. These selective containers seek to make it easier for citizens to recycle special waste that requires specific treatment, such as batteries, light bulbs, ink cartridges, caps and small electronic devices.
A commitment to sustainability
These containers are part of a broader strategy of the council to promote responsible recycling and reduce the environmental impact of waste that should not be deposited in conventional containers. According to the councilor for the Environment, Jordi Grivé, “our commitment is clear: to work to make Eivissa a cleaner and more sustainable city, where waste management is an example of good practice”. The installation of these mini clean points is in addition to other services already available, such as the mobile deixallería and the free service for the collection of household goods.
How the “mini clean points” work
Designed with specific compartments, these containers allow neighbors to dispose of materials that could be harmful if not properly managed. For example:
- Batteries and cells: Contain heavy metals that can contaminate soil and water.
- Ink cartridges: Generate chemical waste that is difficult to process.
- Light bulbs: Some contain mercury, which is highly toxic.
- Small electronic devices: These include components that require specialized recycling.
- Plastic caps: They can be reused in solidarity initiatives.
These containers not only simplify the recycling process, but also seek to raise awareness among residents about the importance of properly handling this waste.
Why in Mercat Nou and Sa Colomina?
The choice of installation points responds to criteria of accessibility and affluence. Both the Mercat Nou and the Plaza de Sa Colomina are places frequented by neighbors and visitors, which ensures a constant use of these containers. In addition, the City Council has pointed out that these locations act as a pilot test and do not rule out expanding the number of points in the future.
Other waste management services
The City Council’s commitment to sustainability is not limited to these containers. The mobile deixallería mobile travels through different areas from Monday to Friday, offering citizens a solution to dispose of bulky or hazardous waste. In addition, the free household waste collection service can be requested by calling 900 200 218.
