The migratory movement on the Balearic coasts continues to increase this Sunday, December 29, with the arrival of two new boats in Santa Eulària and Formentera, bringing the provisional balance of the day to five boats and 92 immigrants intercepted.
Rescue at sea and arrival to Formentera
At noon, at 13:10, the emergency services rescued 17 people of North African origin in the sea, southeast of Formentera. These people were in apparent good health.
In this operation participated the Helicopter Unit of the Civil Guard (UHEL), the Provincial Maritime Service of the Civil Guard and Maritime Rescue, who managed to carry out the operation without major complications. This intervention is added to the rescue occurred in the early morning in Playa d’Estufadors, also in Formentera, where a skiff with 18 immigrants reached the coast. Four of them were taken to the Hospital de Formentera due to hypothermia.
Interception at Es Figueral, Santa Eulària
Later, at 16:15 hours, Guardia Civil and Local Police of Santa Eulària intercepted 16 immigrants on the beach of Es Figueral, in Ibiza. This group, composed of people of North African origin, was found in good health and transferred to the corresponding services for identification and initial care.
Provisional balance of the day
So far, this Sunday has recorded the arrival of five boats with a total of 92 immigrants to the coasts of the Balearic Islands. Of these, 71 are of North African origin and 21 are sub-Saharan. Local and national authorities remain on alert, managing a migratory flow that highlights the humanitarian and logistical challenges associated with this situation. Rescue and care operations are carried out in collaboration between different agencies, including Guardia Civil, Salvamento Marítimo and local security forces.
