The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the insular councilor of Tourism, José Marcial Rodríguez, will appear this Thursday in extraordinary plenary sessions to respond to the accusations against Rodríguez, who allegedly tried to assault the head of inspection of his department. The appearances, scheduled for 3 p.m., were requested by the PSIB and MÉS per Mallorca groups after the complaint became known last Friday.
Rejection of the accusations and political reaction
Rodríguez, who has denied the facts alleged in the complaint, affirmed that he maintains an “excellent” relationship with his subordinates and announced that he will take legal action once he receives the official document. However, the spokespersons of the PSIB, Catalina Cladera, and MÉS, Jaume Alzamora, have demanded his immediate dismissal. Cladera called the facts “nonsense” and asked Galmés a similar action to that applied in the case of Pilar Bonet, former Minister of Finance.
Audit and whistle-blowing
Beyond the dismissal, Cladera demanded an audit of Rodriguez’s management of the Tourism Department during his term of office. He also pointed out possible irregularities in files related to agrotourism and an alleged manipulation of data to favor political interests.
Responsibility of the Consell
Alzamora considered the accusations “serious” and stressed that, if Galmés does not take action against Rodríguez, he will share responsibility for the facts. Both spokesmen insisted on investigating whether the president had prior knowledge of the situation.
Political and ethical context
The allegations underline internal tensions within the Consell, while emphasizing the need to address priority issues such as the island’s tourism model. Cladera and Alzamora have insisted on maintaining transparency and respect for ethical procedures in public administration.
