The Court of Instruction 47 of Madrid has summoned this Thursday the former spokesman of Sumar, Íñigo Errejón, and the actress Elisa Mouliaá in the framework of an investigation for an alleged crime of sexual assault, denounced by the interpreter. According to the court order, the complaint is related to events that occurred in September 2021, after a meeting between the two at the presentation of a book by the former deputy.
Magistrate Adolfo Carretero has summoned Mouliaá to testify at 11.00 am and Errejón at 12.30 pm. The politician’s defense had requested to postpone his appearance, but the judge dismissed his request this week. The process, which was temporarily shelved in November due to the medical leave of the complainant’s lawyer, was reopened in December after a joint appeal filed by the Prosecutor’s Office and Errejón’s defense.
The story of the complaint
According to the complaint filed on October 24, after months of contact on social networks, Errejón invited Mouliaá to the presentation of his book. Subsequently, both went to a nearby bar and then to a party at the home of a friend of the actress. There, according to the account, the politician adopted a “dominant attitude”, which would have been aggravated in the elevator of the building, where he allegedly grabbed her by the waist and kissed her without consent. The complaint also states that, once at the party, Errejón allegedly took her to a room where alleged non-consensual touching and expressions of a sexual nature took place. Subsequently, according to Mouliaá, the politician insisted on taking her to his home, where the events were allegedly repeated despite the protests of the actress, who claims that he reminded her of the feminist slogan “solo sí es sí” (only yes is yes).
Possible legal consequences
Legal sources have explained that the reported facts could constitute a crime of sexual assault, which is punishable by between 1 and 5 years in prison, depending on the severity and whether aggravating circumstances are established in the case. The case generates great expectation due to the notoriety of those involved. It is expected that, after the statements of both parties, the judge will decide the steps to be followed in the investigation.
