The Provincial Court of Palma will judge this Wednesday a man accused of carrying almost a kilo of cannabis and more than 100 grams of cocaine in Santa Eulària, with a sentence of five years at stake.
Arrest in a supermarket
On March 15, 2021, Guardia Civil agents intercepted a man at a supermarket in Santa Eulària after receiving information about suspicious activity in the area.
Upon searching the accused, a Moroccan national, the authorities discovered a dozen blocks of cannabis resin totaling 982.48 grams, estimated to have a market value of almost 6,000 euros. In addition, the man was carrying 204 wraps of cocaine, with a total weight of 123.79 grams, valued at approximately 7,630 euros.
Evidence to support the accusation
Along with the illicit substances, 935 Euros in cash were found, distributed in small bills, which, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, indicates that the money could come from drug sales activities. This evidence is in addition to the amounts seized, considered significant and sufficient to justify the charges of drug trafficking.
A conviction that could set a precedent
The prosecution is requesting five years in prison and a fine of 15,500 euros for the accused, accusing him of a crime against public health. The trial, which will take place at the Provincial Court of Palma, could set a precedent in the fight against drug trafficking on the island.
