The UD Ibiza has officially announced the incorporation of Javi Lara as its new sporting director. This decision marks the return of a player who left an indelible mark on the club and the fans during his three seasons on the island, between 2019 and 2022, a period in which he was key to the historic promotion to Second Division in 2021.
A return full of identity
Lara’s appointment comes at a time of reflection for UD Ibiza, which seeks to consolidate its project in the First RFEF.
In a press release, the club’s board of directors highlighted the special bond that the new sporting director has with the institution and with Ibiza: “Javi Lara assumes the reins of a club that he has seen and made grow, with his goals, dedication and sense of belonging,” they emphasized.
From the playing field to the office
Javi Lara, born in Montoro (Córdoba) in 1985, announced his retirement as a professional footballer earlier this year, after an extensive career that included stints with clubs in Spain such as Elche, Córdoba, Ponferradina, Alcorcón and Eibar, with the latter of which he played in LaLiga. He also lived an international experience in the Indian Super League with Atlético Kolkata, where he was crowned champion in 2016 and was recognized as the best midfielder of the tournament.
A sporting challenge on the horizon
Lara’s challenge as sporting director will be to revitalize a team that currently occupies mid-table positions in Primera RFEF. At his presentation, scheduled for Wednesday, January 22 at 5:00 pm at the Palladium Can Misses, the new manager is expected to share his vision and plans for UD Ibiza.
