The abandoned boat that appeared last Friday next to the garbage containers in the municipality of Sant Josep has ended up burning this Thursday in a fire that required the intervention of the Fire Department of Ibiza. The fire, which started at 14:10 hours at kilometer 5 of the EI-700 road, seriously affected the seven-meter boat and the remains of vehicles also deposited at the site. The emergency teams worked to extinguish the flames, using a fire engine, a fire truck and a team of six firemen led by a corporal. In the tasks collaborated personnel of the Local Police of Sant Josep and the Civil Guard.
Incivility, the focus of criticism
This incident occurs just days after the Local Police of Sant Josep publicly denounced the abandonment of this boat on social networks, calling it an act of “disgusting incivism”. According to the authorities, the boat was deposited last Friday night along with remains of vehicles, in what they described as irresponsible behavior that affects public roads. From the Local Police have urged citizens to collaborate by providing images or videos of those responsible when they observe similar acts. They also recalled that the removal of bulky waste at authorized points is free and that neighbors can resort to the deixallerías to properly dispose of this type of waste.
Recurrent problem of waste abandonment
Sant Josep is facing a growing problem of bulky waste abandonment. Last year alone, 422 abandoned vehicles were registered, of which 232 have already been decontaminated. Local authorities have promised to intensify efforts to clean up and remove abandoned items, with the aim of alleviating the situation before the summer.
