The Dominican Republic is positioned as Palladium Hotel Group‘s main investment focus in the Caribbean, with an estimated commitment of one billion dollars over the next seven years. During his speech at FITUR 2025, Abel Matutesthe group’s president, revealed the details of this ambitious commitment, which combines hotel renovations, real estate developments, sustainability and social programs.
Renovations in Playa Bávaro and new developments in Santo Domingo
One of the highlights is the comprehensive renovation of the Gran Palladium Bávaro, which will give rise to two new concepts: the Gran Palladium Select Bávaro and the Family Selection. This project, whose initial investment exceeds US$60 million, will take place between May and December 2025. These new brands will reinforce the group’s luxury and exclusivity offer in the region, with private areas, personalized services and a VIP approach for families. In Santo Domingo, Palladium Hotel Group has announced a comprehensive project to transform the area where the Dominican Fiesta Hotel & Casino and Torre Plata are currently located, on Anacaona Avenue. This plan contemplates the construction of new towers and the complete remodeling of the Dominican Fiesta, which could be converted into a five-star establishment under the Only You or Bless brands. Execution will depend on obtaining licenses, but work is expected to begin by the end of 2025.
Real estate development and tourism diversification
In Playa Bávaro, the group will also develop a luxury real estate complex, which will include a golf course, leisure areas and premium residences. This project, which will be executed in phases over the next seven to eight years, seeks to diversify the tourism offer and position the Dominican Republic as an integral destination. According to Matutes, this investment represents a long-term commitment to the country, designed to boost both tourism and the local economy.
Social impact and sustainability
Palladium Hotel Group’s commitment goes beyond infrastructure. Through its Palladium Cares program, the group will open a training center in the Dominican Republic, replicating the model implemented in Jamaica and Mexico. This center will offer free certifications in hospitality and other sectors, promoting employability and professional development in local communities.
In terms of sustainability, Palladium reinforces its global commitment to the use of renewable energies and the circular economy. Currently, 67% of the energy consumed by the chain worldwide comes from clean sources, and the company is working to increase this percentage in all its properties. In addition, sustainable practices are being implemented, such as waste composting and the purchase of agricultural products from local suppliers.
