A 12-year-old girl put an end to an ongoing situation of abuse by reporting her mother and stepfather at the National Police station in Manacor, where she was accompanied by several friends from school, whose support was decisive in her daring to take the step.
The minor was attended by agents of the Family and Women’s Unit (UFAM), before whom she recounted repeated episodes of physical violence, showing recent bruises as proof of the aggressions. In tears, she confessed that she could no longer bear the situation she was living in her home, according to OKBaleares.
As she explained, the assaults were forceful and prolonged over time, and until then she had only confided what was happening to her to those closest to her. Her colleagues encouraged her to file a complaint, reminding her that she was not alone and that she had the right to be protected.
Following the complaint, the police acted immediately and arrested the mother and stepfather as alleged perpetrators of a crime of domestic abuse. Subsequently, a judge issued a restraining order to ensure the safety of the minor, who is currently in the care of relatives.
